I have 2 sets of Sterilite Drawers for Guided Math to hold materials and manipulatives needed for that day's rotations (Teacher Feature, TF Materials, Workbook Nook, Elation Station, Math Journal, and Fact Fluency.) These have really increased my students' independence with cleanup. They even help cleanup the teacher table because they know where all of the materials go! Its someone's morning job to put away the checked workbooks and math journals. We keep them in the bins under the easel in number order.

Thank you so much! I have been struggling with exactly what you addressed in your video- sorting out issues with other groups and losing the focus of the group that I am working with. I LOVE the idea of the reflection station. What a great way to allow students some accountability. My questions are: do you see each group every day? How many groups do you have? In your 15 minute slot with each group, do you just demonstrate or do you have them practice as well? How long are your math stations blocks? Thanks again! Emily from Switzerland

Yay! You're back! Thank you for sharing all of your wisdom with us! :) My quick question is about students who need reteaching...if one or more students turn in a math station journal that has work that was done incorrectly, how do you make time to confer with that individual/meet with that small group for reteaching? Thanks again!

Hey there Pina, at the end of the day if I see a student is clearly confused on the skill or topic, they meet with me in the morning during our morning work time. I put a post-it note on their notebook and says Let's Meet during Morning Work... come to my desk when you read this note :) Hope that helps!

I love the idea of the consistency with the spinners! My question is...do your students simply get to choose whichever center they want to do each day, or do you have some sort of rotation or chart they must follow? Thank you!

Do you have any advice on when 90% of the school s ELL? I am an ENL teacher in Dubai, and the majority of my school is considered ELL. They are one to three levels below grade level when it comes to Math, Science, and ELA. I thought stations would be a great idea, but I am having trouble coming up with activities they can do independently. Most of them cannot read the instructions (or could not write or fill out a reflection sheet, like you mentioned in your video.) Any ideas you have would be much appreciated!

I've been missing you Mrs. +Anna DiGilio . Also I would like to add one more thing . Always make sure that your structure is simple for students to follow and understand instead of overwhelming and putting too much on them especially when the end of the school year is closer and they are looking to have that moment with their friends before they are out of school for summer and along with that freedom comes not being able to see their friends again for a while . By the way , have you ever thought about doing an outfit of the day video because you always look so beautiful . Keep up the videos ! - Dwight

Thank you so much! And I absolutely agree, keeping the structure simple, while organizing and modeling expectations can be a huge difference in the success of Math Stations. And I will have to keep that in mind for outfit of the day video, haha :) Thanks so much for your comment.

You're welcome Mrs. Anna DiGilio . By the way , is the DiGilio Dollar Store still open for business ? The way that you explained that system of yours reminds me of my younger years as an autistic special ed student in middle school and high school and one of my teachers in middle school and high school had a system a little bit like yours but the difference is that the dollar system added up to indoor recess activities on Fridays . - Dwight

Our school was affected by Hurricane Florence and a great deal of the childrens work, my records, etc. has been destroyed. Is there a way to quickly assess students for grouping without actually having to go over the content again? I was thinking of giving them the post assessment and seeing where they stand? The students are still early in the unit, but I really don't want to overwhelm those who are struggling gy assuming they are aware of what was covered before our month-long absence due to the aftermath of the storm.

I am sooo sorry to hear that... Yes... I would start with the post assessments and go from there... that will give you an idea of where they stand with what you taught them previously... hope that helps a bit... xoxo

I have not been able to get stations up and running in my classroom. I tried but failed. I want to go back to doing Guided Math, as I tried it last year and it worked very well. Not sure why I did not continue this year. I am not certain how to get the stations done well. I think materials, space and organization is the challenge for me. Adebo

Hey there, I totally understand. I spend the time making sure that I label everything in the classroom, this helps me to stay organized. And I use bins, to always make sure that everything has a place. One of the biggest things that I had to make sure is keeping consistent with all of it. Hopefully that helps, and you are able to go back to doing what worked well for you :)
