I had a few Miles albums from this time period, but I didn't really appreciate his ballads and muted sound until recently. As far as trumpet, I was always a Freddie Hubbard fan (I think "Blue Spirits" is my all time favorite). I first got turned on to Miles when I saw him in concert around the time he came out with "Bitches Brew". An incredible experience!

Superb Jeff. As well as all the musical aspects so beautifully explored here there is also the recording. How, just how was that sound produced? RVG I assume, love to see the recording notes on this.

You know, half this album was recorded in Hollywood in California, and the other half in New York. I think this track was from the California sessions. So, definitely not Rudy Van Gelder, but possibly Michael Jackson or Steely Dan!
