Moved to Sweden not long time ago, lovely country, got a job in a matter of weeks, fixed up apartment soon after that, the country takes care of its people. Sweden did more for me and my family than my own country did in my lifetime. If a day comes, God forbid, that this country is gonna turn to war, it can count on me as a volunteer. @@hotcoals2291 Beautiful Bosnia and Herzegovina, a deeply divided politically and religiously country. During the war of independence in the 90', a very slow and stagnant period came there. No job opportunities, no help from the government, you either have to be politically active to have some of a chance to get anything done. Since it came out from a socialist state, money hungry oligarchs and war profiteers made their own privare country. Pensions are low for workers, no right, 10-14 days of free days in a year. Really low salaries, it's a shame. Couldn't get a job there that pays I can't say good but solid, a normal salary for over 2 years, but couldn't also get welfare because there isn't any and of course I'm not looking for one, I'm rather young and willing to work my ass off just like my dad did, and Sweden is a perfect country for it.

The Swedish military might be the most atheistically pleasure military in the world. All of their equipment and personnel look modern, yet extremely pragmatic. Their camouflage is also very effective.

During conscript training we would be asked to go hide in the woods as close to the sergeant as possible. Some came very close to the sergeant without him noticing. The camouflage is very effective. In rain conditions the saturation of the colors matches what are seen in the forest, and in summer or sandy conditions, the same apply.

@@nilsingvar7319 Yes, the Swedish Army, at the moment, is still relatively small. However, if I'm right, Sweden is considering significantly increasing its military budget. In addition, Sweden has now reintroduced conscription. I hope Sweden will once again become the "Israel of the North" like it was during the cold war. The threat from the east can never defeat the Nordic countries if we really start investing into our respective armed forces.

Sweden has also always pushed military innovation forwards. Since early modern history revolutionizing field artillery uses and tactics, creating one of the most professional armies in the world until current times with technological innovations. Stridsvagn 103, Gripen, CV90, Archer... I'm not a swede myself but I've always been impressed by their doctrine and quality. My guess is rewarding and encouraging innovation was their way to make up for small population

Sweden prior to the Napoleonic wars which was the last wars we fought in, had like, a lot, of wars. Might help in learning to. You might think that the record for most wars between two countries falls to the UK/France. Nope, Sweden and Denmark. One time Sweden marched from Poland to Jutland in Denmark, over the frozen over belts and all the way to Roskilde just outside Copenhagen before the Danes signed away 1/3 of their country to get peace..... The king was not satisfied however and tried to continue but the Dutch came over and said no. Sweden around that time is known in our history books as our time as a great power. Considering that "Sweden" in this definition included modern day Finland, and that we still only reached like 2.5m inhabitants..... Yep not a lot of people up here. Sidenote as a Swede, this video is pretty hilarious with the pronunciations. You can tell that there was an attempt to do it right, but it's not quite right.

Sweden: "How many CV90 variants do you want?" Swedish Army: "Yes."

Hey, the CV90 is the military equivalent of the Volvo 740. Doesn't matter if you want a drift car, drag racing vehicle, daily driver, rally car or anything else. With a few mods it will do whatever you want.

@@gundalfthelost1624 i dont know about cv90, but the old stridsvagn-S was part conpatible with volvo 2000 series tractors. And viggen fighter jet is part compatible with DC10 airliners... and Archer is of cause part compatible with colvo CE machinary. Proboly much more i dont know about. Just look it up. CV90 is part compatible with Scania trucks

I served as Skyttesoldat on CV9040 at P4 Kvarn back in 2003/2004 :D

On the fighting from the hatches. It's based on Germanys tactics from WW2, when their grenadier would be fighting mounted from halftracks following the tanks into battle. A proven and successful concept in other words. If facing troops that are forced to dismount, as the enemy relocate to find a good spot to dismount, the swedish CV90 can advance with troops ready, put pressure on the enemy and A) force them to relocate, or B) catch them as they dismount and kill them. Aggressive maneuvering is key to the swedish doctrine

The camo is called M90, and it's awesome!

These seem like very tough formations. The CV90 is a real stud of an AFV; even the support and command elements are very prickly with 40mm Bofors guns. And I very much like how liberal they are with the infantry's selection of arms right down to platoon level. It warms a Yankee's heart to see our Euro friends are still ready to go.

And then there's the motorized home guard light infantry. Organised in rapid reaction companies and batallions either in Bv206 tracked all terrain utility vehicles or modified Mercedes Sprinter vans. Kitted out very similiar to the armored infantry dismounts only with Ak4C (G3, Spuhr adjustable stock) battle rifles with either aimpoint red dot or refurbished 3x DMR scopes, a number of m203 launchers/platoon a couple of Ksp 58 (FN MAG), a couple of Carl Gustaf recoilless rifles, some at4s, a k9 search team, and on batallion level, more land mines and explosives than what's healthy around creative part time trained militia troopers where many platoon and squad leaders are KFOR/IFOR/Afghanistan veterans and a single platoon can have everything from HR management to water treatment techs, radar&radio maintenance and installation specialists, construction workers and high voltage electricians... And since a few years back, the home guard has their own integrated 12cm mortar platoons crewed by former artillery and mortar conscripts using the towed 12cm m/41 mortars the army abandoned when the Mjölner CV90120 mortar system entered service.

The Swedish military was built around a large army of conscripts, then after the cold war it change to a pure (smale) professional army, so so there are mountains of AK5, AT4 and Carl Gustavs from the conscript time. So the military have a gigantic surplus of infantery wepons, take what you want we have more (of the older wepons)

Us Euro's have actually been trying to limit our militaries as much as possible you know. We don't really trust ourselves with sharp objects these days. So we're sticking to the bare minimum to not get invaded by the Russians. If aliens invade it might be different but for everyone's sake it's better if we keep it on the down-low for the foreseeable future. Just look at history.

@@karl-erikmumler9820 but thanks to all that cuts...European economy is far beyond what can Russia dream of. Even Italy has bigger economy than Russia. Anyway, this means, Europe can pump out thousands of (Germany) Leopard 2s or build tens of high quality Carriers and Destroyed (Italians) in short terms if necessary. Meanwhile Russia struggles to move "Admiral Kuznetsov" without help of tugboats or produce (non-prototype) T-14s. Even SU-57 became a failure and no-one has shown real interest in it. If you play strategy games...you know that everything you spend on military early on takes precious resources that can be invested into other things which will speed up economic and technological developments and you will crush your enemy with more units. RN. Even, relatively demilitarized EU has two times more active tanks in service than Russia. Not to mention, those tanks were designed to take on waves of Soviet T-72s, T-80s and T-62s rushing the Eastern Europe.

I have always been impressed by the top-notch equipment and capabilities of the Swedish armed forces. Many do not realize that the Swedes have a long, and storied military history, having produced one of the great military geniuses of history, Gustavus Adolphus, and having a long history of combat against the Russians. Most impressive is their superior ASW capability. The fighting spirit of their Viking ancestors is still very apparent in the Swedish military today.

Clearly this is not the format for long and detailed historical, cultural and religious justification. So, plainly put, we should be doing everything possible to come to an understanding with and accommodation of Russia....even Russia under Vladimir Putin. If the west is to survive the coming Chinese onslaught, it will need Russia as a strong and capable ally.

Great detail. You even got it right that the new CV90 logistics vehicles also have 40mm cannons now. This upgrade was made just a year ago.

I find the swedish military fascinating... I love to see a video breaking down how one of their fighter squadrons and associated support elements operate out of austeur distributed bases... Either the old viggen squadrons, new gripen squadrons or both

It is good to keep in the vehicle so you are versatile as a unit depending on what you're up against. Not like you bring it all when dismounted. You get orders for what loadout as you get the order to prepare for dismounted combat. Atleast back when I was in. 😁

this reminds me of the debate about whether mechanized infantry "need to dismount" or "dismount when needed" in this case, seems like they are wholeheartedly in the latter camp, at least according to the TOE if I remember correctly, on the other end of the spectrum is the British doctrine ("If in doubt, dismount"), where the entire platoon leadership and most of the more senior NCOs (section commanders) dismount

Most other countries have at least the platoon leader dismount. The person left commanding the vehicles is usually an NCO, like the Platoon Second-in-Command (e.g. Russia and the US) or a dedicated vehicle-element commander (e.g. the Warrior Sergeant in Britain and the LAV Sergeant in Canada). The Dutch are interesting because they duplicate the platoon leadership entirely for CV90 units, so both the mounted and dismounted elements have a Platoon Commander and Deputy Platoon Commander, with the Platoon Commander who remains with the vehicles being the most senior.

@@BattleOrder another interesting thing is that even when we talk about dismounting the platoon HQ, most of the time it's the senior NCOs (like the PSG) that remains to command mounted element rather than the PL himself, I wonder why? (for example, we rarely see "dismount sergeant" in big armies, Sweden and Netherlands were rare cases) perhaps because senior NCO has the extensive experience with the vehicle? or they just emphasize dismounted ops so that the PL need to lead them on foot?

Pioneer soldier here! Good job on this! only thing missing is the Pioneer platoons within the Tank companies use a modified version of the MTLB, Pioneers dont use a CV90. Modifications are mostly storage related for it to carry a large complement of explosives, mines and other field work equipement. chainsaws, mine detectors and Anti tank systems (RBS 56 BILL), Carl Gustav, AT4 and NLAW.

Quality but serious lack of volume though. We are jealous of our finnish brothers brute numbers in soldiers in the army. It's slowly getting better since our new budget got cleared.

Noticeable is also that the armor defeating capability is increaced by re-equipping the Bofors Rb 56 BILL with its latest munitions. This meanwhile a more modern system is deployed to the companys. Will most likely consist of 1 platoon (3 AT wehicles) per mechanized coy. A fast moving and protected mortar element is now already in effect. The GRKPV 90 with 2 12cm mortars in each veheichle. What is mentioned above will truly reinforce the batallions to wage war if necessary.

1:53 Thats the best thing I have ever seen. A gpmg with a decent sight. That weapon is supposed to be a machine gun but its a fucking sniper rifle in my experience. I remember it in training. We were supposed to use it as a suppressive weapon, but I remember firing it in very short bursts, almost single shot, and thinking, this is seriously accurate at long range, I could do some serious damage if I dont fire at long bursts. but meh....whatever

obligatory "you got most words right however the Ö's are not O's" rating it 7/10.

Can you possibly do a video on how UN peacekeeping operations are organized? Do the retain their parent organization from contributing nations? Or do they form in to task forces based on mission profile? I'm very curious on this. There's not much information on this particular subject.

I did a 10 month conscription training in a mechanized infantry coy (more independent than the armored types, same gear) in 2004-2005 as a CV90 gunner and the info about those type of armored infantry coys seems legit as it was then :) In training my platoon had 2 regular officers being CO/XO ("F", "G") and 3x conscript vehicle commanders (~NCOs trained as platoon commanders) where one was the formal dismounted commander, one in reserve and one manning the first in line vehicle ("E") as commander.

Pretty good pronunciation of Swedish. Not the best I've heard from a non-Swede, but leaps and bounds over most anglophones.

8:04 I actually love this design, its so smart if it takes a hit only half of the vehicle is destroyed and either the troops in the back or the vehicle and crew still survive.

We also has the electronic warfare battalion including LAVs (and more CV90s of course) with technology for triangulation and communications interference. And of course the Archer artllery system as showed in the video. Would also like to see more about the navy and airforce of Sweden.

They got the best tank currently on the market. They got the best fighter currently on the market. They got the best Submarine currerntly on the market. Their military system is based more on guerilla warfare than outright war. Their Bill2 rocket melts tanks like a blowtorch to butter. And they have a pact with all scandinavian countries should war occur. It would be stupid to go to war with any scandinavian country.

Itd be stupid if we were equal in numbers, but someone like russia could just throw bodies at us until we're eventually overwhelmed. The only real thing that makes it stupid is if we were part of NATO lol

​@@laseen7809 Sweden and vietnam are relatively equal in size, country wise, but vietnam literally has x10 our population. Vietnam also did just that, throw bodies at the americans. The russians dont have a more advanced military, they just have the numbers

A look at the structure of a small country like New Zealand would be quite interesting

Well done, surprised at the level and quality of detail. 👏 As some previous commenter mentioned, this must have taken a lot of researching. You mention that the battalion structure reminds of the pre-2016 US one. In what way did they change and what was the reason?

The US is always changing the formation structures. They changed it because of Iraq and now they will probably change it again for China!

The mounting in stridsfordon 90 is mainly for added vision into the woods.

The logistics company's pioneer platoon do not consists of a bridgelayer. The bridgelayers are located in the Engineer bn.. Also, there is a difference between "pansarskytte" and "mekaniserad skytte (mekskytte)", where the formers purpose is to support tank units, and the later is to fight as an own unit. In the the upcoming Armyorganization for 2025, these two batallion types are the bulk of the three mechanized brigades. However, when you look upon them they look the same (same equipment), it's their training and tactics that differs.

Our king is actually a person you can relate with unlike most world leaders around the planet. Dyslectic and very simple minded (not dumb), he's basically your average dad but with a crown.

7:20 is not the Forward observation vehicle it's the command vehicle, you can easily tell by the lack of a thermal sight and that the license plate number starts with 142. Also no luck in the C&C and Observation vehicles getting the 40mm gun, that was as part of an older organization where all CV90's would not be modernized or needed so a number of 40mm turrets would be lifted from IFV variants and put on command and control and observation vehicles. With the expanded organization there is a shortage of CV90's so we are more likely of seeing new build CV90 with 35mm cannons than any of that. 140xxx = IFV 141xxx = Forward Observer 142xxx = Command and Control 143xxx = Anti Aircraft 144xxx = Armored Recovery 145xxx = Mortar

For the people who haven't lived on Sweden, the best thing I could suggest for you holiday trip is to take a train directly to Norway, Germany or Denmark
