It's late here in the UK, so I'm settling in bed to listen to a Sinister Saturday tale told in Mr. French's dulcet tones, as only he can. Thank you.

I'll say in all modesty that Mr. Irving's prose is especially wonderful when heard aloud. His horrors aren’t likely to make you jump, but they might just keep you awake, or fill your waking life with strange dreams. Cheers. E.E.F
Thank you for another great reading!

Nice to hear that. I like compliments, but I'd accept criticism as well . There are now about 500 recordings . There are bound to be a few turkeys when you attempt this every week. Thanks for listening. E.E.F.

Thank you for replying! I agree wholeheartedly with you about criticism. ‘Constructive’ criticism is a positive gift to give to someone.
You could say Pluto's goose was cooked.
Washington Irving is in danger of being forgotten, which is a shame, as he is one of our founding literary fathers. No one now realizes that The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is as ghosty as many I hear on YT. The story is worth reading just for the chatacter of Gunpowder, the horse. Rip Van Winkle is a time travel/inter dimensional/fairy story and I doubt it makes anyone's list of early sci fi. Though it should. Thanks for this. Irving is writing about an area thay I'm familiar with and that was as important to the settlement of the north east as any joyless pilgrim's village. We should scrap Hawthorne and elevate Irving. Scrap F Scott Fitzgerald and elevate Robert Penn Warren, I could go on but people hate it when I do. Thanks again. 😏

Well, I wouldn't scrap Fitzgerald, Penn and Hawthorne, but I do like it when you "go on." Irving's fantasies are pleasantly seductive, but like Rip Van Winkle’s “wicked flagon,” they also have a powerful bite and many an author that came later were inspired by his stories. I like to think that he's making a comeback. Thank for tuning in. E.E.F.
Home sweet home. Jersey City and Ellis Island!
