SPL: Aka bringing daddy kink to a new level.

This a huge common misconception about Priest novels though. People be like, "it's Priest, the focus is on the plot. There's not much romance/it's not explicit/it's a slow burn etc." And it just makes new fans reconsider reading Priest novels. Meanwhile, Priest is like, "Yep. There are the two mains bantering/flirting from day 1. Then they're having wet dreams about each other and/or shoving their tongues down each others throats. The plot? what kind do you want? you can have everything." ~coddles Gu Yun~

SPL is more than romance , it is about true love. The few scenes specially when each time Gu Yun and Chengeng meets after long separation, even though there is no confession involved the intense emotions they go through, I have never experienced such a scene in any other existing novel. 🤗🤗

I really don't understand people who say priest doesn't write romance... it's very misleading because she wrote so many compelling love stories, with an amazing plot that is also as important as the main couple relationship. Priest is great at worldbuilding, so you always have this bigger picture as well as very interesting characters that keep you hooked from start to end

And unlike a lot of danmei, Priest really does create complex motivations for her MLs that's not solely dependent on the MC. Her MLs feel like romantic leads second and characters first, which makes the romance all the more compelling. I think people are too used to authors who focus on the romance first and plot as a setting to the romance between characters.

Ngl these book reviews has quickly become one of my favorite video formats. Stitch’s ability to describe the plot compellingly while kictor sprinkling jokes here and there makes an entertaining video _and_ good advertisement for the book lmao i’ve added them all to my ever growing TBR 😂

Stitch, I sat in my room for days now, very eager to listen to you rant about it. Personally I like listening to people as much as I like telling people about danmei (guess we have some similarities 😂). Listening to you talk about these books is... Idk... Calming, I guess? I like to listen to you talk. It's really nice and it's giving me reasons to go and get these books for myself.❤ Danmei book club is always best when Stitch and Kictor are there❤

I remember watching that drama years ago! It was actually really good

Well, a disabled/powerfull general god father and an unlucky star who is apparently the crown prince of an empire and semi going insane. This is a new cup of tea

"It's the demons of homosexuality," had me wheezing.

As someone who read the book, your guesses had me DYING. 😂 I really loved this book, but it doesn’t hurt to check out the triggers (suicide, cutting, and probably a few others). I personally didn’t have a problem with them. There is humor to balance out some of the heaviness, and it can get heavy. Sometimes I wanted to reach into the book and slap Shen Shiliu/Gu Yun, but mostly I wanted to hug Cheng Geng. This poor kid has gone through so much and I can’t wait to see how he overcomes his struggles. I also can’t wait to see how the feelings become mutual.

This. Read the content warnings for Priest novels (or any book tbh) people. Sometimes, it can be a lot if you aren't prepared for it.

star of chaos and the doom-like birth under the stars kinda reminded me of hua cheng and star of solitude ngl 😭 i really wanna check out this book now

Few points: 1) Ah yes, our first officially licensed pseudo-incest danmei. Your friend is me because what got me interested in this was a clip from the audio drama where the subs just have Chang Geng call his godfather "Father". 2) Oh my god all those little steampunk elements in the book itself (e.g. the chapter titles), I need this. 3) Personally, I see Chang Geng's friend as trans. 4) EDIT: Sorry another one, I totally agree about the leads' relationship, really compelling. I know incest and pseudo-incest are problematic and stuff but danmei has really put out some thoughtful and compelling relationships in this vein.

You so should watch word of honer or read the novel it’s based off of! it seems like something that you and stitch would enjoy! I thought that it was like a mix of tgcf and mdzs! One of my most recently finished danmeis and I enjoyed it so much!

Priest tires to address real issues in the society, like adding deep social and humanistic themes into her novels. Her romance is very down to earth vibes. Just because she doesn’t go in depth into smut, it doesn’t mean the romance isn’t a focus. She tries to bring out more to romance than sex, and when you get familiar with her style you will see such a difference in her story telling. Also she just not write bl, she writes almost every genre and considers one of the five female authors in China. Hope you see a different side of Chinese literature from pipi’s point.

This novel remains one of the most loved Danmei novels written by Priest, cause it’s beautifully written and pretty romantic.

Stich completed the whole of the Sha po Lang in just one sitting 😮😮😮 Literally God level speed of reading!!

Stitch's excitement after reading the novel, we are so gonna get along well 😭😭😊😊 I love how accurately (esp. that mom tossing the child pic 🤣🤣) she describes the story without giving it away. SPL is also in my top 3 and my most favorite novel from Priest. I cannot wait for the live action 😫😊😊 Thank you Kictor!!

SPL might be heavy on the politics but the way author describe every battle just made it easy for me to imagine it and feel like i'm seeing it at a VIP seat. Super cool story and love the flirty Yifu 👍😃

32:40 What a coincidence, i finished yuwu just few ago,crying dying throwing up in the entire process ,it was the most emotional danmei I've ever read, SPL was so so good, on my top 5 danmei list, Where are people who told me this book focuses on plot more than romance, Excuse me you guys? The romance and tension between them(especially daddy kink) was so dynamic, i was hooked from the second chapter, definitely a must read, There is a live action, but i think its going to take forever to air just like eternal faith and immortality

Only two more chapters - then I've finsished reading SPL. Unfortunately it lasts a long time till volume 2 will be released. I like Priest's novels. Sometimes ago I read Silent Reading - a captivating and exciting story - after the drama Justice in the Dark had been dropped.

What's funny about my interest in this danmei is I didn't read it because its gay but because I was obsessed in Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng story in MDZS. Gu Yun and his best friend Shen Yi have JC and WWX donghua voice actor for SPL audio drama. So I'm like ahhh finally a universe where JC and WWX are still besties. Audio Drama Chang Geng and Donghua Jin Guangyao have the same VA too.

I just bought the first book in Stars of Chaos, Thousand Autumns, and Remnants of Filth. I'm also not finished with TGCF, SVSSS, & ERHA. 😅 I have so much reading to do, good thing I can read as fast as Stitch. ✨️

You haven't watched WoH??? The moral complexity of 2 love interests who are semi reformed bastards! The sexual tension between the sweet looking cinnamon roll of a killer and basically every older man he interacts with! The bestest baby boy Chengling who inherits like 3 sects wildly different techniques when all he wanted was to be a filial son! And Gu Xiang the bestest evil baby who craves the violence and one (1) Good Good soft boy who adores her.

When i first saw spl i was shocked bcz you know ancient china but steampunk ?? But after reading priest novels. you realize priest really loves to combine different themes. And yeah plot heavy but that flirty air between couples is so hot.

I really wanted to read this because of the universe and the art, but was really put off by all the reviews and comments (even a massive blog article i read through) saying that it was an adopted son and his adopted dad. Nothing I looked up about it made me feel better about it, so decided to skip it, right up until you fully explained the nature of the relationship - thank you for removing my hangups, it will now be on the reading list!

I love this videos, bc I don’t really have that much free time and they help to satiate my curiosity/help me decide if I’m gonna spend time on the series/enjoy this with somebody, bc I sure as heck cannot talk about danmei with my irl friends 😂

STITCH - NAILED IT!!!! I LOVED THIS BOOK!!!! 💜💯💜💯💜💯💜

I wish I could get as hooked as Stitch did with SPL😭 I'm literally struggling with this rn😭 As much as I am loving the characters(Gu Yun is definitely my current fav), I've been stuck on chap 43 for months because I couldn't understand what was happening😭😭 (I am a very slow reader and I'm not used to reading because I hated reading books back then, and tgcf is the first book that had me HOOKED on reading, and I've read a few danmeis now) But thankfully this helped me understand some parts of the story and I'm kinda wanna continue SPL now!!

I always like your videos but I have to say that I really really like the Danmei club with Stitch. Was the story talked about all in the first book?❤

Definitely suggest WoH, even if it kinda felt like two bros at the end of it, Wen Kexings character development was worth all the political bad pacing.

I don't know if someone here watch Cdramas. If you watched “Hidden love ” and “Lost you forever” then congratulations, DuanJiaxu and XiangLiu are the two MLs of the live action of SPL aka. Winner is King.

It can't be racism if it is Chinese towards Mongolians because it is literally the same race. I would say it is more like a very common theme when it comes to historical Chinese novels, due to the constant history of the central plain vs the northern invaders kind of thing.

Well I’m Indian, and we differently have superiority complex to other types on Indians and their cultures, so maybe the Chinese have supporters complex about their culture and the Mongolians culture.

Sorry, but I didn't like the book. There was just WAY TOO MUCH racism to ignore. It made me too uncomfortable to keep reading. I'm sorry, but I have to disagree.
