the strength of fake/knockoff wheels is usually similar but at a higher weight and thickness. BUT they will likely be more prone to bending/cracking with impacts.

Stitches are on the outside of Sparcos so when it burns it cauterizes on the outside, adding another layer of protection, rather than having a valley to allow weather* in.

Fun fact: Checking for "Made in XYZ" stamps is a good way to figure out if your product is counterfeit or not for weird legal reasons. Nardi is an Italian company, so is Sparco. Nardi wheel had a proper stamp while Sparco harnesses said American made. Works really well with Advan rims. Counterfeit ones all say "Japan Forged" or "Japan Made" but never "Made in Japan"
@kevinmulia6503

They often say "Japan Design" which probably, to me, is a good indicator that the thing is a replica/not the real deal

My favorites are the ones that say "Assembled in the USA" usually combined with something along the lines of "from international components/materials". To say that's intentionally vague would be an understatement. 😏
We did it boys, a performance brand gave you sponsorship! Congrats!

It seems to me that with legit harnesses and straps, the stitching is usually a contrasting thread color. That would help see if stitches were damaged.
The editing on this video is great! That scene of Jeremiah with the knob! 🤣

Idea: separate the three lads with some dividers. Give 2/3 real parts, and one a knockoff. Let them discuss why they have the fake or why they have the real part. They know 2/3 have real parts, so some strategy may be used to trick the other into thinking they may indeed have the genuine part. Chaos ensues!!!

Counterfeit parts make their way into heavy machinery too and often through the manufacturer's own service networks... It can be difficult to tell the difference just by looking and some of the parts can be seriously dangerous.

@@Sourman1545 Yeah build quality is questionable at best... I've been in a few Teslas, one that was delivered pretty recently and they leave a lot to be desired. Now that there's serious competition from the Germans and the Koreans I can't see why you'd buy one unless it was an emotional decision... The Koreans have the best manufacturing processing in the world, take it from the people who know. My old man was the global director for Stahl Chemicals leather and automotive finishing division and had a lot to do with helping Hyundai set up Genesis. He always said nobody is better at quality control than the Hyundai group, they had never made their own leathers in house and he said they had it absolutely nailed within two years and for an outfit that size that's unbelievable. He reckoned they make the best leather products on the planet now and the fit and finish is every bit as good as the best of the Germans or the British. Goes to show how much a badge can influence the perception of quality. It take a blindfold to really make a decision using your head over your heart... And cars are very emotional things.

Pro tip: Most part manufactures websites have a link to a list of there certified dealers , also while using eBay or Amazon you can select the seller and also Vet that the seller is the correct verified certified dealer of the product by checking out there page and cross referencing the contact info to the contact info of the dealers website or store location. You can even give them a message or call to there website or store info and ask if its there listing and shore up any unknown.

It'd be cool to see a direct Comparison of the real vs fake products, not just either fake or real, and an indepth assessment to help people have an idea of what they're looking for (the brake discs for example).
some idea's to make the show more competitive: -if everyone is right, NO POINTS -you get 1 doublepoints token, or last question for doubles

Best quote: Nolan, "I held it. The knob feels pretty good. It feels hefty."
Also with the sparco belt the amount of stitches at each end is also a tell sign that it's counterfeit. The real ones have a significant more amount of stitching.

Holy shit! At 6:28 my dad had that shift knob on his 98 F150 and growing up I thought it was so cool to press the button to make the eyes glow, and then one day when I was older he bought a new shift knob but the skeleton one meant so much to me from all the memories I had driving with him that I took it and I have it somewhere in my closet right now in a safe box.
On the fake Sparco racing harness, another tell could be that the threaded anchors look like they’re cast and unfinished (meaning there was not a post process conducted, like machining, to improve the condition of the part from the imperfections of the casting process). Cast components tend to have brittle failure modes and are not great when loaded in tension (i.e., the force of the belt against the anchor when the car crashes).
