Mickey is one of the finest examples of character development on a television show and, with all respect to the writers, that is all about Noel Fisher. He did the absolute best with what he was given and became much more relevant than some of the main characters. This relationship, as violent and troubled as it was, is still the most compelling story shameless ever told. Any farewell to Ian without Mickey would be hard to comprehend and the fact that the two of them together in a jail cell still constitutes a happy ending is a testament to the power their story had over people.

It boggles me how the presence of just one actor entering a room can have such an effect on one scene. Noel Fisher is a such a great actor, and so dedicated to his role that he came back for not even a full minute which just demonstrates his love and devotion to Gallavich and all of the fans! I can rest easy now, knowing that my favourite ever pairing end up together :')

Karen Guessman Both. At the end of season 5 he was about to start filming in the live action TMNT movie, so the writers wrote him off for a season so he could do that and then he came back in season 7 for a bit.

@@kelpy3027 I know it's been three years lol but that's incorrect. Noel was in the main cast and since he wasn't being paid enough he left the show and went on to do other projects. Since the fan favorite was Mickey, the show had Noel do cameos every now and then but for some reason they didn't finalize him as a main character. Cameron planned on leaving by the end of season nine as well, but by season ten he and the show made an agreement that he would stay, as long as they gave him a raise, and brought Noel back on the show.

You can clearly see all the pain falling off of Ian's chest when he sees Mickey. He's so relieved because he's home now, their love is still so strong, they never stopped loving each other, that's the one true love in life. Now they can finally live together happily ever after

I have never cried so hard seeing a reunion before. Noel and Cameron portray two amazing characters that are still in love years after not seeing one another. This makes me so happy that Ian won't feel so alone while he's locked up. AND THAT MICKEY SMILE

Only on Shameless being locked up in prison for 2 years equals dream honeymoon and best epic love story conclusion ever. edit : well... I'll have to take that last one back. Cameron Monaghan is returning. Noel Fisher is returning... See you in season 10 Gallavich, we are all rooting for you !

I’m gonna miss Ian but I find it poetic that Mickey helped him make his exit. Best character swan song ever.

My favourite thing about this scene is that Mickey doesn't stand on ceremony, it's not some giant reunion. He just needs Ian to know that he chose to be here and that he's on top. It's so simple and perfect and the best end we could have ever asked for.

While watching this episode, I went through about three phases from the moment Ian walks into prison: 1.) as he walks in I’m like “wouldn’t it be funny if Mickey were here” then 2.) in the cell, “wouldn’t it be funny if Mickey were his roommate” 3.) “Oh my God” Cue hysterical laughter for thirty seconds, and then actual sobs directly afterward. Thanks Shameless for actually breaking me.

Loved this ship because this was a no bullshit couple. Every thing was do raw in some cases literally raw. But it defies all gay stereotypical tv troops. They break the common ground each individual strong and vulnerable in their own way and how both of the characters grew up because of each other. This ship was beautiful. And well written and they deserve this ending. Thank you writers for making this grand and Noel for coming back and doing this characters lives a beautifully hopeful end.

It actually hasn't been announced if the show has been cancelled yet. All we know is that Emmy is leaving after season 9 and Cameron announced that this would be his last episode.

So Mickey heard Ian the gay Jesus was getting locked up so he decided to snitch out the cartel to be with Ian! That’s how seeing it!

When I found out Cameron Monaghan was leaving, I thought I had lost faith in the show, his character never seemed to catch a true long lasting happy break, and the writers had destroyed my favorite TV couple when Noel Fisher's character crossed the border into Mexico and Ian decided not to go with Mickey. This episode had me angry and shedding tears of sadness and anger, but then the door opened behind Ian, and even before Mickey came in view, something hit me that it was about to be made worth it, and then Mickey came into view and I lost it, tears of relief and joy, they both finally got their happy ending...

They were always end game. If the writers did anything else I think there might've been an uproar. Perfect ending to the end of Cam’s run

even though Ian couldn't make that sacrifice, Mickey did. To roll on the cartel and accept years in prison just to be there for Ian is the kind of love, loyalty, and sacrifice you do not find outside of the hood. That's a ride or die.

Excuse me while I weep for joy over this reunion.. When Mickey left, Shameless just didn't have that special something like it used to. This relationship is THE relationship of the show, hands down, and this love is some of the purest I've ever seen. Bless you Shameless for making the right call.

I'm sad to see Ian and Fiona leaving the show, it wouldn't be the same without them. But at least they gave Ian the best ending.

Well, in my perspective. When Ian was thrown in jail, Mickey already heard about the 'gay jesus' thing Ian was involved with, so that triggered him to surrender and somehow break on his current fiasco in Mexico so that he gets to be in the same prison Ian is into. That there's nothing more than beautiful than defying all odds, just to be with the person you loved most. And that what makes Gallavich endgame.

he explains. "rolled on the cartel" he snitched on the cartel to law enforcement, who in exchange let him choose the room. that prison in Chicago is probably the same one Mickey was in in the first place so he knows.

If this is the last season, I think that this was a great ending. Thank you so much to Cameron and Noel and the writers and producers and everybody else who made it possible. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Now, if their last season comes on in like two years (what Ian is supposed to do) or more, the perfect ending for me would everybody getting ready for a wedding without mentioning whose, and at the very end, they show them getting married. ♥ A girl can dream.
