I thought the first movie was the house bunny. I certainly never would have guessed princess bride after those clues

I've only ever seen parts of The Craft. Never seen it all the way through. I'm gonna have to put on my list of classics/cult classics that I feel I should watch but haven't yet.

Ok we need to define exactly what makes a movie have cult status. Princess Bride is classic but i dont consider it a cult classic. jmo.

But it most definitely is a cult classic. Cult classics are very modest successes at the box office or even box office failures. They gain their popularity post-initial release, usually over a period of time. A great example of a cult classic not in this episode is the movie Clue. Despite a very wide release it effectively bombed at the box office and didn’t find success until the late eighties and early nineties as VHS really helped it out. Having said all this, this episode includes A Clockwork Orange, which was a financial success grossing over $100 million dollars worldwide (in 1972). It was both an extremely popular film and well received by critics and audiences alike. It’s NOT a cult classic. It’s just a classic. In fairness, A Clockwork Orange has definitely developed a cult-like following, similar to other wildly popular and successful movies like Harry Potter or Star Wars. But none of those properties I just mentioned qualify as actual cult-classic films. Fight Club is another example of a movie many people mistakenly consider a cult classic, even though it grossed over $100 million at the box office and was incredibly popular at the time. Similarly to A Clockwork Orange, it has maintained and even grown in popularity since it first released. But both movies were wildly popular and successful on release, so they are just considered classics. I think what throws a lot of people off is that many movies which were successful at the time simply haven’t maintained the popularity in pop culture that movies like A Clockwork Orange have.

@@Captainpigraven Much like the one guy writing The Godfather. Wasn't that a big success? Sure, it wasn't the actual movie, but I think these guys get a lot wrong with definitions. Did Labyrinth do well? I thought The Big Lebowski was a big hit. I hate it, but I seem to remember it being popular.
