Guesch Patti Reaction Étienne M/V (WOW WICKED!) | Dereck Reacts

#gueschpatti #etienne #pattietienne #french80s
Hi all welcome back to another video Dereck Reacts back at it again! This time around we take a look at a PATREON requested Guesch Patti with "Étienne." Talk about double meanings, metaphors, symbolism and down right explicit. It's all there and more, Patti stuns with choreograph, and edge high powered vocals! See my reaction now.

Madonna explained on a few occasions that she got inspired by Guesch Patti' s attitude, visuals & femininity. When you think of Erotica & other stuff she did, you can easily see the influences from artists such as Guesch.

It always amazes me to think how liberal and free we were back then in France. We were sooo comfortable with everything, that was an incredible time to be alive. I was very young but I still remember, as it was mentioned numerous time, that this clip was shown on French TV in absolute broad daylight for everyone to see, from 0 to 100 y o, and nobody found this shocking How crazy was that?! I cherish and miss these times.

Guesch Patti used to be a ballet dancer at the opera house in Paris before recording this song. She was one of the best female vocalist and best lyricist of that period. A genuine talented woman. Listen to "Blonde", one of her best album, from which 3 songs are credited on the soundtrack of The Pillow Book, a great film by Peter Greenaway. PS: and yes you should listen to Cargo de nuit by Axel Bauer, its official videoclip was inspired by the gay atmosphere of Querelle, a film by German director Fassbinder, adaptation of a novel by Jean Genet... :)

finally !!! We Germans generally do not speak a lot of French and even though I was, i was not understanding all the references... still it was a Top 10 Hit in Germany. So the song stood for itself and the video was captivating and not banned in Germany. So it's combination of it all - and it was way before Madonna or anyone else picked up that style and black and white etc... I think at the time of the video she was already 40 and I don't remember a follow up... a true one hit wonder. Her surname is pronounced Pa (like spanish "a") -tee, .

Hi Dereck! Thanks for reviewing this gem by Gesh Patty! To complete your comments about the song, you seem to suggest that Etienne translates to Steven in English and has some sort of a sexual meaning (if I got it right). Well, Etienne has not any sexual meaning in French, it's just a common name. However, when she says "pas de limite au goût de l'after beat", you have to know that the slang word for a dick in French sounds exactly like the word "beat" (but spells b-i-t-e), so she plays on the sound there to spice up the lyrics ;) So not only she wants it bad, but she wants a taste of it too! LOL May I suggest you have a look at another good French singer called Claire Diterzi and her song "L'Odalisque" which is so good! kzread.info/dash/bejne/rG2Tk7F6etXdmqw.html

Yes, very good comment! "Etienne" also sounds similar to "Tiens le bien", it's a play on sounds, Etienne, hold it tight!! In the whole song, there are a lot of play of the repetition of sounds (alliteration). A little help on the lyrics: First verse translates better to "I lift the forbidden" instead of "I raise the forbidden". No more censor, no more taboos' For the cat that the guys brings to the other man to caress.. We have the same meaning in French, with cat/pussy connotation it could be the meaning of that. It's not "remains lengthen", but the direct meaning is she orders him to "stay down" (laying on a bed) - but it can be understood also as "keep it up" (the dingling) but that's a little far fetch I think. Then basically, they've done it, enjoying the aftermath of the intercourse, the feeling of numbness, pleasure but she's still hungry for more! And yes, like many commented, I was hooked by the song when I was kid singing it out loud without understanding what the words were really about :)

You react still to 3 of them: Desireless - Voyage voyage, France Gall - Ella ella, Guesch Pattie - Etienne and the 4th was Vanessa Paradis - Jo Le Taxi (yes, the ex-wife of Johnny Depp, she sang that song when she was 15, also a small scandal). The video of Guesch Patti wasnt banned in Germany. I know it from the afternoon music shows in public tv. Guesch Patti was the most avantgarde-ish charts singer from France in that time.

This clip and Axel Bauer's "Cargo" are inspired by the books of the French writer Jean Genet, plus a Bob Fosse and Lisa Minelli "Cabaret" influence for Guesch Patti. David Bowie also titled the song "Jean Genie" in reference to Jean Genet. But if you want to react to "Cargo", please check out the "live à Ferber" version. You'll also make it discover to many people who only know the regular version.

hi dereck! a huge success this song, a beautiful and sexy clip and lyrics that go straight to the point! I remember my parents thought the song was great, but the clip was daring and the lyrics were a little raw: we were between 15 and 20 and we loved it. it was the 80s and everything was allowed. I recommend you in another genre: kim wilde, a star in the 80/90 with sounds you love, his first single 'cambodia'

"The girl and the chair", although she might not be the first one, but this is iconic from "Marlene Detriech"... It's a cabaret performance. Paris "Pigalle", the cabaret zone ("red light district" if you want, but... the parisian way :) ). And about Marlene, you might like Daniel Balavoine (french singer from that era, dead young in an accident in the 80s), he did a song "Lady Marlene"... Very beautiful song, very beautiful voice.

First saw this on Eurotrash, I think, I looked for this a couple of days ago on yt. I bought the 45 when I saw it in the basement of Andy's records bitd, still have it., the b-side is "let be must the queen," which isn't as good and the English is terrible. You stopped it at the wrong time and should go rewatch the bit before the jacket comes off as it's all based around the rhythm as she puts it on and kicks the chair away. Her dancing is amazing in this video.
