It was a loud, long and delighted laugh. ‘Well played, sergeant,’ he said. ‘He has us, brothers. He has us cold.’ Holofurnace hissed a curse. Eadwine nodded, his face grim. ‘I will concede stalemate,’ Eadwine said. ‘Thank you, sir,’ said Mkoll. ‘I appreciate the opportunity to test myself against you.’ >He knelt down, and began to rip the packets of explosives from the edges of the deck plate. ‘Throne!’ exclaimed Holofurnace. ‘Be careful with those!’ ‘These?’ asked Mkoll, holding up one of the packs. ‘They’re just bags of powdered caffeine mix.’ Sar Af began to laugh all over again. >‘That’s the other thing about the Guard,’ said Mkoll. ‘We bluff like bastards too.’

    A don’t think the First and Only are one of the units that means that literally, for much of the Guard that’s more of a metaphor and in another incident another Trooper from this regiment has a vision of an actual angel telling him to do his duty and kill a chaos chaplain after he’s almost killed, when he tells the angel that he’s too hurt to make the shot she pulls out a commissar’s hat and a bolt gun and informs him to do his duty or else, leading to him killing the leader of all chaos forces on the world so I think that they have a more traditional view of angels.

    We're the SM / White Scars already formed in 30k? I always forget the exact timeline on that... • from the early era of (human)space exploration... • ( the apex and decline of the Aeldari (I think it's somewhere in between here, before the DAOT proper... I think) )... • Federation's "golder age" (?) / DAOT... • the sociopolitical decline of the properly advanced and technological, scientifically-aware* Human spacefaring civilization and the Cyber-Revolt and (the beginning? of the)Warp Storms... • the Earth's/Terra's techno-barbarism period... ( 🤔 I suppose if it weren't for the Warp Storms, somebody else would've come along to conquer Earth/Terra...) • the Emperor making an appearance, at last... making a deal with Mars... • Creation of the Primarchs... near immediate loss of the Primarchs 😅 • setting out on the Crusades... half-cocked as it were 😅 • the Heresy... • the Ecclesiarchy's nonsense... • and the more "recent" events... the exact years of transition always just escape me 😅

    To put this scene into context, the guardsman depicted, is literally so adept at stealth, he regularly has to increase the sound of his footfalls, to alert people he is approaching because otherwise, he is just... there all of a sudden. He approached his commanders command cabin once, and upon walking up the wooden stairs, made so little sound, he scuffed his boot on the wood rather than knock on the door jamb, because knocking was too loud, and his approach was too silent. "A warning of approach, from a man who makes no sound" was his commanders thought upon hearing his boot scrape the wood quietly

    @akoda8887

    @@Furzkampfbomber No, blanks are on the negative spectrum of warp ability, so it's actually possible to be a minor blank. So you have blanks who make nearby people mildly uncomfortable, and others who make psykers wish they could kill themselves faster so as to stop being in their presence. Some byproduct abilities do include reduced perceptability, going sometimes as far as complete passive invisibility to all senses. I think there was one sister of silence with that specific ability.

    The ghosts are possibly the single most lethal guard regiment ever. Despite only being a literally one and only regiment. They beat MEN OF IRON. Galaxy ending threat corrupted by chaos and they won. And that’s literally in the first 3rd of the first book. They get SO MUCH BETTER at what they do. Not to mention some of them literally seem to be chosen by the Emperor or other warp gods to win. I fucking love the Ghosts

    Not really. The salamanders value human life yes, but they understand that in combat their is always going to be loss. The salamanders just don’t view baseline humans as tools to be used at their leisure or convenience. In this situation/scenario they would view that as just an outcome of war. They might not ask him to make such a sacrifice but if he did they would respect him if he managed to take out one traitor astartes with it. It’s hard to explain but it’s more like the salamander recognize themselves as equal or still human but with more capability and skill and therefore more responsibility for the baseline humans safety and well being. In this situation the SGT showed his skill to be on par with three astartes

    If you've read all of the gaunts ghosts books, you know Mkoll is more like a 1-man-army than anything else. Beware of incoming major spoilers and don't read any further if you don't want to know too much of the books yet, including the end. Mkoll singlehandedly killed a chaos-dreadnought, told the soldier who saw that not to tell anybody about it, because he just did his duty and don't wanted to be bothered by the congratulations. He outwitted a dark eldar mandrake, one of the most deadly and cunning hunters of the dark eldar, and told him he was quite good before shooting his brains out point blank. He survived together with gaunt and a special operations team of the first tanith on a chaos-controlled planet, fighting a guerrilla war for a very long time (idk anymore how long exactly, but at least a year), without being corrupted by chaos, which is a feat in itself. He was captured by the enemy (after killing a lot of them), but he escaped and successfully infiltrated the enemy main base, killing even more of them and in the end made the second in command of the whole chaos-army - a being absolutely pumped with chaos-energy - spend their whole energy until he was forced to flee - ONLY to be pursued by Mkoll through the portal and being killed by him on a lonely beach. Mkoll is the real Warhammer 40k, i'm telling you. xD I love this character. Because he's not just absolutely badass, but he is humble and intelligent as well. He's just what i want from a good 40k-story. 😊
