Man I screamed when they said it is streaming. And cried when I saw that render in a sec. This is the future.

You can, Jules founder of OTOY said (8:35) around 2010 is when that capability was available on graphics cards. They actually made a free raytracing program called OptiX that renders interactively to get people to work with their CUDA system, and of course buy their stuff. From their site "OptiX is a programmable ray tracing framework for software developers to rapidly build ray tracing applications that yield extremely fast results across NVIDIA GPUs with conventional C programming." :)

Rubert max Well using that would would make it nearly impossible for people with older graphics cards and AMD graphic cards to run the game. That would make the amount of people who can actually run the game very small. That is what happened to watch dogs which got tons of hate.

There will be. It's a cloud service for everyone to use. "The pricing of the service is announced at a maximum of $1/GPU hour, with 4-128 GPUs per user on demand. The cost may be lower during non-peak hours. More info will be shared later today. The service will initially be available in the US only during the beta period (starting in July) with international support planned for later this year."

It can't be used for gaming, but the people working on it are also making the Brigade engine, which is for gaming and uses the same rendering method.

Quantum Computing is what we need! do the processing in another timeline and send the finished product back in this timeline and have a subatomic rendering at 1000 fps!

The people involved in this are also working on the brigade engine which is geared towards gaming and it uses fast raytracing as well

The 2400 to 4800 dollars a year for licenses is a great price also, since it's a shared license.

On a single computer! And its a rough estimate based on an average workstation. The work obviously was spread over a lot of render farms consisting of thousands of cores for processing!

If I had the choice of geting this right now, or a RED EPIC or even an ALEXA, I would definitely get this and settle for a canon c series or maybe even a couple of Blackmagic Production Cameras and/or pocket cameras.

I used to be excited about Brigade until I found out that they are reducing the accuracy of the pathtracing algorithm in order to make it run smoother like a game.

Ok, to clarify for me please, if someone will… Through the presentation I thought that I could essentially avoid buying more hardware, and have all real time interactive preview renders delivered over the internet in realtime straight into my 3D software interface - like they did streaming from California. But the pricing at the end seems to be a hardware sell - not a remote GPU render farm / remote GPU IPR service. Is remote Octane GPU IPR service possible?

Nice tech, but for a (say) 5 year exploitation period it's less than 20% cheaper than buying the actual server rack. I use on-demand services in my line of work, can't begin to explain how many times a click I wish I had the bloody thing running offline.

What i can't understand about nvidia is, if they are so concerned with small scale artists and their problems, why isn't a small scale version of this available? I would kill to be able to use the processing power of my gpu's as well as my friends' gpu's over lan! It'll certainly be faster than network rendering on our measly i5"s!

It depends on what game you're playing, what settings you have on it and at what resolution you're using. Also, I dn't think the higher end cards have much problems doing that, especially in SLI. I would rather tell the programmers to write more efficient code. ^^

Awesomely impressive speed, buuuut.. The gpus only have 4GB of memory, so as soon as you need to use more than 4GB, this service would be rather pointless, as the scene would be rendered on the CPUs with their 192GB of memory. UNLESS, they share the 192GB over to the GPUs in some never-done-before ways. That would be revolutionizing.

I don't find it that absurd, when you consider that most of the rendering packages out there measure compute time on a per-core basis. This is partly because third-party renderers will often charge per-core licenses on a small scale, but even when you are using an in-house renderer, you still want to know this because it gives you some guidance on how much investment you need to put into upgrading or scaling up your farm down the line. Where I previously worked, at the time, we had a farm with 7000 1U rack-mount nodes spread out over 3 locations, each node having at least 12 CPU cores... when you consider 100 million compute hours / (7000*12) = ~50 days of actual usage of the whole farm.

Painful script ("what is a tiger?" - really??) for a technically impressive video. Could benefit from an educated audience, rehearsal, editing, annotations + compare demo sequence in the video to: - the amount of onsite computing requirements that would be needed to show real-time, full resolution, HDR rendering to a director/client; - why it isn't just remote desktop, and (briefly) how user contention is handled If you must show dollar values, add a high-level ROI summary + comparison.
