They got the buildings and tourist attractions almost right, but because they didn't want to make the map 1 to 1 in scale so it could be run on the PS3 and PS4 without crashing/massive fps drop (while also cutting travel times and increasing the chaos). So the solution was to pick out all the iconic sections of Hollywood, NYC, San Andreas and bring it all closer together, then just fill in the blanks with random buildings and land features. Voila, you have a perfectly sized example of American culture to blow shit up in.

Those suburbs are the easiest part to make. Just model 1 or 2 houses and use your copy and paste tool to place endless rows of them in the game. Looks just as generic as they do in real life.

I love GTA V because it’s based off of a real place and the locations look identical. I have been to Los Angeles many times since I live 1 hour away and every time I go there, I imagine about GTA V and how similar everything looks like the game.

Majority of GTA games are based off real cities, yeah the older games weren't much similar to the real counterpart. But the HD era games are pretty much identical.

You forgot the most important attraction - Rockford and beverly hills ( Michael de Santa's house )

I play GTA 5 since 2017 and, since i never been in U.S, i wasn't aware how similar both cities are!

Imagine anybody living in Los Angeles playing GTA V. They'd know their way around the map automatically without having to locate anything on the map.

I know this is a dumb question but is it possible to make an exact map replica of California in a decent amount of time? I figure it would be 100% harder to make everything.

I used to live in bakersfield, now I live in Los Angeles, my favorite place is Santa monica pier

the unfortunate thing about video games is that everything looks like it's made of cheap plastic, from the buildings to the human skin. The only way some games try to replicate some materials is by making them shine use RTX lighting and reflections, but still most materials look weird in even top tier games
