The BMW launch was strong with Awd, where the Shelby GT500 was spinning. The Shelby pulls hard throughout the run showing it's impressive power. Each time I see the Shelby GT500. The more impressed I become. It's a beast. It appears the CFTP version are still limited on the streets. I'm a fan of drag racing, but some track comparisons would continue to show how special the Shelby GT500 is.

That M8 driver is chopping that tree down.

Makes me even more excited for Brooks to take delivery of his own Shelby. The number one issue I see them having in drag races is the launch, and he’s one of the best at them.

The M8 is impressive though, on carwow it kept up with a R8 during the roll and 60 was similar

Both M5 and M8 are highly underrated. They actually make over 1000 hp at the crank under the hood stock. So this is cheating by BMW...

Bakhtiyar Mamadaliyev You are 100% right , Everyone Has to remember that the BMW S63TU engine is an engine from 2011 It’s this same engine in my M6 just tweaked here and there , My car made around 480 whp stock and 675 whp conservative tune stock clutches cant handle much more , The GT500 is a very impressive car I love it , but it’s really racing 10year old technology here in this vid , If you check DME tuning website you can see the stages and power gains and it’s no where near 1000hp ,definitely not in stock form , you have to install power add ons larger turbos Meth injection etc to get that kind of power

It's still gonna be slower around a track than any gt3 (rs) or proper track oriented car with lots of less power. It's a mustang, after all.

@@User-th6yy, yeah, it was slower than the GT3 RS by a whopping 0.15 seconds at the finish, and if that first straight had been any longer then the GT3 RS would have never led at any point on the track.

@@BEBNC1 Nahhh, it's too heavy. It weighs roughly the same as my M5 Comp. Even with the best tune and stripped interior (we think), the M5 Comps are only running high 9s on race gas. I don't see the M8s besting that by much. Perhaps a few years down the road with more aftermarket mods but that's not gonna be easy.

@@G82Watts Because mustangs are more popular and you see what the majority of people want? No one is out here dying to get a M8 and that’s according to stats. The interior? The interior in the mustang is rated a 9/10 for the customers that like and own these cars. You can look up the rating online, funny this is if people didn’t like it ford would change it because they actually listen to their customers (not saying BMW doesn’t). And what do you actually get in the M8 that you would use everyday or that’s not in the gt500? So you would pay 70k more for a little bit better interior.. you act as is the interior is 2x better when you literally get more comfortable seats in and steering wheel in the gt500. Name 10 things without looking them up that’s in the M8 that’s not in the gt500 where the M8 would cost 70k more. Track and roll the M8 is done for.

That M8 really launches insanely hard. When tuned versions hit the drag strip they'll be low tens easily (depending on the tune). edit*** I want to see a stock M5 Comp vs M8 comp just to see which car really is quicker. Should be just about even considering the same engine and drive train.

well its so good that BMW dev told the press they are no longer using the V8 because the L6 is too good, they are making more power with less cylinders, and they keep blowing up transmissions with it, if you think about it, the inline six is balanced, doesn't need balancing shafts, so its way lighter, and revs higher, what do you need more

@@ssllhh100 what do you mean they are no longer using the V8? It's in the 5, 7 & 8 series (including M5 & M8) as well as the X5, X6 & X7 (including X5M & X6M). Don't get me wrong I love BMW's straight six engines and ive owned half a dozen of those over the years, but the V8s are here to stay at least until plug-in hybrids take over and then we'll see more 4 cyl & 6 cyl engines supported by an electric motor or two, even in the M versions.

It is amazing how reliable these vehicles have become. To repeat the runs over and over. The Mustang is a beast. It just kept pulling. I am sure on a warmer day it could be faster. Even with the wheel spin it gave the BMW a run

I would take that GT500 all day long even though I liked the M8 Competition. The supercharger whine and the V8 is ridiculous good, plus this Mustang handles very well as a muscle car and it is two times cheaper with more power. With a tune the GT500 would be too quick

Awesome my man...

I'm a BMW guy, but I was actually surprised the M8 did so well. I didn't think it stood a chance against the Mustang. The loss was expected, but the narrow margin of loss was the shocker.

That M8 impressed us. It is down more than 140HP and it put down some respectable times. It would be very interesting if the BMW had the same HP as the FORD. And the the BMW is heavier to boot.

@Romel Roze the shelby was literally going 10 mph on the slips in ever run. With the acceleration times tilting in the gt500 time in all of them. If the slips are saying the gt500 is faster in almost ever category it's not the machine it's the drivers reaction time.

@Romel Roze did you not watch the race? Like for real? Dragtimes a bonified drag racer is race a friend of his and is literally beating him off of reaction time from the tree.... Instead of saying the typical youtuber that thinks he knows about racing comment you should literally do your research the gt500 does put the power down their are people currently running 10.6 10.5 stock!!!!!!! And it takes is a simple search too see it. You talking about if you cant put the power down in the real world wtf as re you talking about their on a dragstrip racing that is as real as it gets outside a track racing down the street dont mean shit. Real racing where your getting everything out of the car mean everything.

It's the fact that ur not understanding that BROOKS THE DRIVER OF THE BMW IS A VERY GOOD DRAG RACER IS RACER A FAR INFERIOR RACER AND IS BEATING HIM PFF THE LINE. If you shut the fuck up and look on the slip at the reaction times when he puts that slips up his reacting way faster than the gt500 driver. On top of the fact that literally the first fucking driver on youtube too get the gt500 broke the engine in and went straight too the drag strip running 10.6s and even broke the record for fastest 1/4 pass in the car with little too no drag knowledge. In essence what I'm saying is the gt500 running low 11s with a driver that reacting slower than the one his racing will lose everytime ON THE DRAGSTRIP. Drag racing isnt just the machine. If your talking about just racing down a regular street where it's not prepped and both are running identical tires the ALL WHEEL DRIVE CAN WILL ALWAYS GET THE BETTER START. You have no idea of what racing is period you probably have never done it period, outside of you and dumb friends smashing the gas from a red light. Learn wtf racing down a drag strip is it's more science and skill too it than you think, especially if you want too get the peak performance out of your car.

Impressive. Seems like they have gotten the launch control down quite a bit better in the M8 vs the M5. Maybe to-do with the extended wheelbase or upgraded software, I dunno - but that M8 is hitting harder on the launch than any F90 I've seen (in person or youtube), that is for sure.

That tuned 700hp GT500 doesn’t stand a chance against a tuned M8 any given day.

That m8 is beautiful. I didnt expect it to keep up with the stang, really impressive!

Race the gt500 with hellcat redeye,zr1 and zl1...can't wait for it!

Was hoping to see a roll race. But great races. Both cars are badass.

@@AD-ll4iz...I mean when u talking about a tune only is different than cranking the boost up 8 to 10lbs. I had a tune only 87 GN that cost me 20k dollars went 12s then I turn the boost to 22psi and went mid 10s. Same car. So dnt just say tune only if boost has been jacked way up to achieve this time. Boost can be unlimited until the rods or headgasket decide they can no longer sustain the pressure.

That 10.55 would have been the fastest stock time so far if it wasn't for the passenger seat delete and resonator delete.

once you start tuning the newer bmws thats when they love to go into limp mode. Stock they are usually fine

No, I wish... 😉 comfortable enough to be able to pour my heart and hard-earned $$$ into my hobby: 2 x F10 M550s (not sure they count in retrospect); 3 x F10 M5s; 2 x F06 M6 GCs; 1 x X5M; (Audi RS7P then AMG E63S in between); 2 x F90 M5 Comps... M8 GC Comp on my radar (my math sucks, apparently... so 8 or 10 depending on what you consider full-blooded).

Bruh, that was awesome. Didn’t think the GT500 stood a chance due to its crazy wheelspin. Really surprised me when it started to reel in the M8 soon after accelerating. However equally I’m really impressed by the M8, being 100hp down, and still managed to pull away at the start. AWD beats RWD any day lol

I honestly wasn't expecting the 2 ton touring gt car to hold against a monster like the gt500. I would take the m8 over the gt500 just because of the luxury and technology, but for a drag car? No contest.
