GT Power Series Cranks Install on a Hutch BMX 29" Z Frame

We've got some cranks! Today we're doing a simple install of some chrome GT Power Series cranks (175s) on Bernie's 29" Hutch BMX Z Frame Cruiser. We do need to apologize as the audio on Bernie's mic cut out maybe a third of the way into the video. We've been having some problems lately with the Rode Wireless Go 2 on one of the mic sets. The battery dies really quickly and I'm going to have to get it looked at.

    We're on Kauai and I have to say the BMX scene isn't that big here. We do have some kids now jumping on these big BMX bikes and doing wheelies and the 20" BMX scene is also pretty small. Kids are on them riding in neighborhoods but we have no BMX track here anymore. I raced on Oahu once at a state meet at Keehi Lagoon. Wished I had a chance to race at Hickam! Another stellar video! I noticed the link above to the cranks also had them in 165. Is one length better than another depending on the bike size or your height? Looking for some GT cranks as well for a 94 GT interceptor build.

  • @cruisinginthe808

    @cruisinginthe808

    Жыл бұрын

    Yes, they make them in different lengths. It all depends on the size of your bike, your height, and what you are comfortable with. I've always used 175s but that's the length that I have used since my BMX days. Bernie changes his and goes up and down but in this last video he went back to 175s. Shorter crank lengths make it easier to pedal so keep that in mind. Sorry, I wished I could be more help!

    Hey guys! I just picked up these same cranks for a GT 29er I'm building. I also noticed how hard it was to fit the spindle in to the crank. It only fits (by hand) a short distance, and must be tightened all the way with tools. Watching your video, and how hard Bernie had to 'wrench' the cranks on there - how difficult you think it would be to remove the cranks? I'm guessing the spindle bolt would come out easily, but to me- it doesn't seem like the crank would then slide off the spindle very easy. Thoughts? Thank you!

  • @cruisinginthe808

    @cruisinginthe808

    Жыл бұрын

    Here's what Bernie said...."The crank arm will always be hard to remove . You always have to use the crank removal tool." I think with the tool it should be ok to remove but yeah, you do need to put some muscle on them. That spindle makes it harder for sure.

    I hear you but those old brands were like 40 or more years old and it’s hard to keep a business like that in the family for that long. All the old school bike companies are now run by other people. Haro doesn’t build his bikes anymore. Neither does GT. But if these companies can come out with bikes that looked and somewhat match what we grew up with, I think that’s cool for most people. Obviously if you want only OG parts you can definitely find them but at much higher prices. In the end, just do whatever it is you want to do. It’s your ride and your money. Thanks for the comment and for watching! 🤙🏼

    What type of rims are best?

  • @cruisinginthe808

    @cruisinginthe808

    3 ай бұрын

    Thatʻs a hard question to answer simply because it depends on a few things. Do you want the old school look or do you want more of the modern type of rim? What color/finish do you want? How much are you willing to spend? Iʻve had good luck with the Sun Ryno Lites except their chrome plated version. I have a chrome plated set that the chrome is rubbing off for some reason. Not sure if itʻs because of our humidity in Hawaii or if I just have a bad set. But the anodized rims are awesome. What kind of bike do you have?
