I have the same 2018 Avalanche Comp. Have riden a few thousand miles on it. I have done the few changes. 1. I found the 680 mm handlebar too narrow. I upgraded to 780mm, slightly raised. Feels much better. 2. Upgraded the saddle to wider one for comfort. I found the default a bit too narrow and long. 3. Used a stem riser for upright comfortable body posture. 4. Used a very short stem, the handle is more close to body and this is a fix for that upright position . Few other points Yes all gears are not usable. There will always be a little vibration in one or the other combination. So it is better to use 1×1-3 2×4-6 , 3×7-9 this is more than enough. The suspension load limiter is of little or no use. All being said. What components it offered for the given price. It was a steal deal back then, it is a steal deal even today.

Riding in the smallest and largest or larges and smallest gear is called cross-chaining. This puts unesasary stress on the chain and other components. This ratio should be avoided as you are able to make the same ratio with other gears that do not cross your chain. I would also invest in some bike-specific chain lube (a little goes a long way) and chain cleaner. A clean lubed chain makes riding a bike much more enjoyable.

I have a GT Avalanche Comp 29 from 2018. It has a tapered frame. I would like to upgrade the Suntour forks to RockShox. My current Suntour forks are straight. My question is can I replace my straight Suntour forks with Tapered RockShox forks on my bike that has a tapered frame and if so what do I require to do this?

The gears haven't supposed to work crossed, so low front gear with low rears gear, and high front gear with highs rear gears. The middle front could work with all rear gears. The 1x and 2x gears system are better.

yes the only downside of this new bike purchase was the 3x system it literally sucks but I got a great set of lockout shock's up front and i have decent Shimano shifter's and a great frame and excellent 29" tires and really good hydraulic brakes. so the positives out weight the negatives I will one day soon update my crank to a one x system that's really the only major upgrade this bike needs to be a great trail bike.

@@gunchief0811 Old post i know but did you make the switch to 1x? I just picked up a well used 2017 Avalanche at a dirt cheap price, and lucky for me the drive train is a bit too worn to shift smoothly (i absolutely hate 3x systems) - I just hit the buy button today on a 1x full drivetrain; LTWOO 11AX 11-50 with zrace cassette for around $90 USD. I didnt feel this cheaper bike was deserving of a Shimano SLX upgrade...just seemed too out of balance for what it is. Plus the LTWOO has enough real reviews on it with very positive results for smooth shifting and reliability so....we'll see how that goes. If i'm not happy with the gearing range, I can always put a small and big chainring on it and make it a 2x system - I did a 2x11 with 11-46t cassette on my last hardtail and it worked really well and had massive range.

i got this bike and on my first ride up a hill the aluminum bracket that holds the rear derailer bent and the chain tied in a knot around the derailer when the back tire exploded when i left the bike in the sunlight i got two hundred dollars of rim strips tubes and tires. at sport check they couldn't replace a missing cotter pin so i fried my back brake at a real bike store they told me the cotter pin was missing and warned me how flimsy the large rims are. since the aluminium bracket that holds the rear derailer was bent i was getting all sorts of weird shifts and it would cost 60 dollars to fix and sport check wouldnt fix on warrenty a ride starts by crossing a busy four lane highway. you should check the handle bar bracket to make sure its not recalled its a good 420 dollar bike the stock tires suck, the rims suck and the brakes suck. what can you expect to get an entry level bike for 500 bucks prolly not and the front shock kicks back if you get half a foot of air what can i expect that the frame is why you bot the bike and you can always upgrade the components front shock rear disc and rims as you go. the size of the bike and tires is so big that it doesnt fit on a bus bike rack unless you turn the handle bars backwards kman just be cool!

@@albertalex92 Honestly so far so good I've been taking it out on rides, it's fast it handles very well for having large tires. 29" tires are big so u would imagine them harder to steer but when properly balanced with the proper tire air pressure they handle very well, I think its also because the Handlebars are perfect for this size bike. it's a good overall value for the 499$ I paid for it it's not a pro racer but for me it fits the dual purpose that i bought it for it's for weekend trails and for daily commute to work so it's plenty fast, handles itself well in traffic and it looks nice too great paint scheme and great stickers with the G.T. logo's it's really sturdy and durable no trouble doing bunny hops and jumping curbs and riding in alleys and on gravel roads.. the Lockout shocks are good too they are valued at about 130$ or so so they aren't like Super shocks but i still haven't bottomed out on them so they work really well for street or trails.. for me it's good because I plan on doing some upgrades overtime anyways but honestly the brakes are really good and the Seat is also decent quality. overall it's well worth the 499$ I paid for it. I recommend it especially if it's gonna be a project bike. like it is for me.

@@albertalex92 same here bro i need the exercise and it's efficient to commute this way anyways. less expense no worries about gas prices. and I get stronger legs and burn off fat. low impact cardio it's excellent transportation and then on weekends it's a trail bike for some even harder cardio burn and muscle building in my leg's u won't regret the purchase, i bought a good Lock on Amazon for about 23$ too keep it safe when I ride to the local coffee shops, etc.. and of course a set of lights and a helmet I think soon I will buy an air pump some spare intertubes and maybe a universal bike tool but other than that I'm all set.. enjoy the G.T. Avalanche bro it's a great frame and tough bike really nice for the money. ur gonna dig it I'm sure.
