Grundig TK149 Belt Replacement

It's always annoying when a belt snaps on a reel-to-reel machine.
Some of them are surprisingly easy to replace, but many are a nightmare.
This one is somewhere in between. With a little patience, it can be done within maybe half an hour.
To save you some of the mistakes I made, I uploaded this video to show, what you'll have to expect on a TK149.

It is wrong method to replace the belt and defecult.thr right method from the back (bottom cover) u will find entrance to the motor belt cover 15:48 under the speaker .remove the 2 screw and install the belts.thats all.

You may be able to change the tape counter belt that way, but how would you get the drive belt around the flywheel without taking the axle out of at least one of the bearings?

@@AstraWerke remove the 2 scre and u will find it is easy to install the belt aroun the weel.i do it evry time when the belt cut

@@AstraWerke 15:48 u will find small iron cover with 2 screw blow the speaker directly.remove and install belts arround the axe

@@user-wm5ic5le1t Well, the engineers back then were alot smarter than me xD Thanks alot for pointing it out!
Brought back a lot of memories from the 70's when I was a TV Engineer, the City and Guilds Examination also covered Radio and Tape Recorders. Many a happy hour pulling these apart, repairing and then re-assembling. If memory serves me right, the PCF valve (tube) is for generating the high frequency for the erase head and carrier frequency when recording... good old days... now everything is done with one chip, bring back the seventies I say!

Classic Grundig design and and tidy inside
A nice and tidious job done sucessfully I have a Telefunken tape recorder model no Magenotphon 96 though electronics has somehow been done but I did'nt find the flat rubber belt for the motor and the fabric lined flat belt for the flywheel will you kindly give some information where from I may get the belts . Thank you for uploading the video waiting eagerly for your kind reply .

Where do you suggest getting new belts for these old Grundigs? I have an SO 171 console unit i'm trying to get working just so I can get the tape to tape running and pull some old audio recordings of a late relative. I managed to get power to the tape unit and it's spinning up but i need 2 belts, not sure how to measure/spec (tightness level) or where to source these custom o-rings

völlig falsch!! Der Riemen wird von unten gewechselt. totally wrong!! The belt is changed from below.

You're absolutely right ! Never loosen the chassis for changing the belt !!!!!!!!!!!!
Pretty sure you’re supposed to do it from underneath so the whole mechanism doesn’t fall apart like a clock movement.

There is no space underneath to operate.

There is a knob on the left of the top face. Select between "Automatik Sprache/Automatik Musik/Manuell/Trick" what you want to record (Speech, Music, custom) by twisting, then press the knob down and switch the lever on the right to "Start" simultaneously.
