Christiane has always had more balls, spine (backbone... the list goes on) than most reporters. Iraq war reporting brought her to the forefront. Her courage, moral clarity and commitment to her craft has been unmistakable, and worthy of every journalistic accolade, IMHO. Her work is always worth watching if you have a spare brain cell to keep up with important stuff.

Craig Ferguson was one of the only hosts to not interrupt female guests. Imagine my surprise when Mille Jovovich (The Fifth Element) carried on an interesting conversation about Spanish and Russian literature. The surprise was not that she read but the fact that Craig encouraged her to talk about it. Arsino Hall was another host who gave women a word in edgewise but he had to learn that and in truth he had to work on that skill with men too. Ultimately it is about respect.

Trump told Howard Stern, on air, that he "wished Marla would have taken care of it" He was talking about Marla's pregnancy with his daughter Tiffany.

Big fan of Christian Amanpour, I was once in line for TSA behind her and was astonished to see TSA take her aside for the big search, when she cam e out I asked if that happens often , she notes "often"--just probably folks not knowing who she is and seeing a woman who might be middle eastern, for pete sake one of the out comes of the "other" hatred, she was very sanguine about it. And she is about my size, she looks so tall and imposing on screen.

I love this lady. She is always amazing. Wow

Saw & felt exactly the same in Canada. Watched the 2016 result until midnight, went to bed feeling all was well in the world with Clinton far in the lead. Actually shocked, dumbfounded and numb in the morning. 5 minutes from the border, going 'over' was routine. But, the Buffalo massacre (call it what it is) hit too close to home. Haven't been there since before covid hit. It's a scary place now. And btw, America is only the greatest country in the world in their own minds. I still feel this is too little, too late, but I'm glad Colbert is finally allowing at least his guests to take a firmer stand on Gaza. And I love how decidedly Amanpour is, both in correctly pointing out that no democracy would ban the free press and secondly in naming the journalists of Gaza as actual victims of war. "They are being killed." They are not risking their lives for the truth, they are being killed.

Brave, intelligent person. An inspiration.

The type of journalism she describes doesn't exist anymore. They all work for large corporations who tell them what they can or cannot say in their reports. Also, it is not unusual in times of war for journalists to be only allowed in the war territory while with the army. This is for their own protection. Journalism is no longer what it was in the 60s, 70s and 80s, etc. Real journalism died at least 20-30 years ago. It's been highjacked by large corporations who monetized and politicized them.

To a religious person our limbs and organs are god-given. So should religious people decide that amputations and removal of organs must be forbidden?

it's very interesting seeing a interviewer used to work in the entertainment industry doing an interview to an interviewer used to work in the news and journal industry. There's like a line between the comedy he wants to bring and the serious conversation she wants to bring.

.. I know it's not a popular thought.. But, as a guy who had to register for selective service (draft), I wonder if bodily sovereignty as the focus of this arguement is.. Well.. True. If we can be made to fight and die for wars, whether we want to or not, do we really have full autonomy over ourselves legally? How much of our lives are in this state of implied consent? Far as I can tell, old men have been telling us all what to do with our bodies since... old men. With old ideas and no future. Issuing orders to the world. I think the attitudes and motivations behind that might be a higher priority target.

Interesting thought. And the grumpy old men don't mind risking draftees' lives, having them die. What happened to the Right to Life?

@@Arete37 That's my point.. I don't think we ever really had one. Just a story we tell ourselves, til reality comes knocking on our lives. I think it's easy to miss the common theme, when we focus on one flavor of it. We just fight each other. Never make a dent in the real problem.. Maybe hitting that common denominator will push more than one issue? Less divisive when everyone sees themselves in the crosshairs.. and we are all in those crosshairs.
