    Damrau and Moser were more dramatic, but Gruberova's clarity and precision is unmatched.

    Edita Gruberova - It is with great sadness that we learned that the famous Slovakian coloratura has passed away on 18th October 2021 - she performed so many outstanding coloratura roles which can be heard on U-Tube and Facebook as well as on CD's and DVD's. Fabulous singer with amazing coloratura spanning many different roles - outstanding Zerbinetta in Rikard Strauss' opera Ariadne Auf Naxos and many other outstanding roles including Mozart's Constanze in Die Entfuhrung and countless coloratura roles. Her repertoire was endless. A loss to the opera world as well as her family.

    Her voice doesn't vanish when she's SING the high notes, not even trying. I really like her queen of the night because her voice is very consistant, unlike Edda Moser, who has the loudest and clearest F ever, but not a consistant singing. Gruberova's running is beautiful. Smooth yet clear.

    Er... excuse me but you all seem to be leaving Luciana Serra out of the discussion - her Met performance is dazzling. Gruberova is a stunning technician tho - I remember being in a session of her recording of Lucia conducted by Richard Bonying and she did the mad scene in one take - the orchestra applauded for five minutes and all the sopranos in the Ambrosian Opera Chorus were in tears.

  • @RossiniSoprano
    @RossiniSoprano17 жыл бұрын

    It's not just that she's not in synch with "those" staccati. If you listen carefully, she wants to go faster and the conductor is not responding to this quickly enough. When you sing music this difficult, you do what you have to do, and the conductor's job is to follow you, not the other way around. But there is often a phasing that happens between the pit and the stage, depending on the theatre's acoustics and where the singer is on the stage at any given time.

    @zaljereck not actually, this is not a lead role and it asks for 5 F6's. Mozart wrote 2 G6's in the Concert aria: "Popoli di Tessaglia", for his sister-in law Aloysia Lange, but it is not an opera. Also, Antonio Salieri wrote a G6 in L'Europa riconosciuta for the lead role, but it is virtually out of the repertoire and far less brilliant that Mozart's compositions ;-)

    the thing that's so hard about this song is that it's written for a dramatic coloratura but the tessitura is far better fit for a lyric coloratura. A dramatic coloratura may be better for the role but I think the notes themselves resonate much more naturally when sung by a lyric.

    If you listen to right on the first "meine tochter" right before the phasing,you can hear her attack the notes before the orchestra gets there. That's the sign for the conductor that she wants to go faster. Maybe it's too subtle for a non-singer or musician to hear ( I also 'admit' to being a professional clarinetist.)
