The economy of Tamil Nadu is the second-largest in India, with a gross state domestic product (GSDP) of ₹21.6 trillion (US$290 billion) and has the country's 11th-highest GSDP per capita of ₹229,000 (US$3,000). தொழில் வளர்ச்சி இல்லாமலேயே மதுரை மூன்றாவது இடம்...தொழில் வளர்ச்சி இருந்தால் மதுரைதான் இரண்டாம் நகரம்...அரசியல்வாதிகளால் புறக்கணிக்கப்பட்ட நகரம் மதுரை மற்றும் தென் மாவட்டங்கள்...இரண்டாயிரத்து முன்னூறு(கீழடி) வருடத்திற்க்கு மேல் தமிழகத்தில் நகரமாக இருக்கும் ஒரே ஊர் மதுரைதான்....

நானும் மதுரை பக்கம் தா.. என்னை கேட்ட, தொழில் வளர்ச்சி நு சொல்லிட்டு நகரத்த நசமாக்கினது தா மிச்சம் .. உதாரணம் திருப்பூர்.. மதுரை சுற்றுலா தளம்.. அத அரசாங்கம் மேம்படுத்தினாலே போதும்.. அடிப்படை வசதிகள் கிடைக்கணும். வெளிநாட்டு சுற்றுலா பயனர்கள் ஈர்க்கும்.

தமிழ்நாட்டிலேயே ஊர்ப் பாசம்னா அது மதுரைதான். அவர்களது கனவே மதுரை No 1 city ஆக வேண்டும் என்பதே. ஆசைப்படுதல் தவறில்லை. இருப்பினும் யதார்த்தம் களநிலவரம் இதையும் பார்க்க வேண்டும்.இதை சொன்னால் மதுரை மீது ஏன் இவ்வளவு வன்மம் என கேட்கிறீர்கள். மேலும் தென்னிந்தியாவில் பெரு நகரங்கள் என்றாலே சென்னை பெங்களூர் ஹைதராபாத் மதுரை தான் என்று மதுரைக்காரர்கள் Tweet செய்வது அபத்தத்தின் உச்சம். தென்னிந்திய அளவில் 4 வது பெரிய நகரம் எது என்ற சர்ச்சை விசாகபட்டினம் கொச்சி கோயமுத்தூர் ஆகிய 3 ஊர்களுக்கு நடுவே ஓடிக்கொண்டிருக்கிறது. இதில் மங்களூரு & கோழிக்கோடு வேறே நாங்களும் போட்டியில் உள்ளோம் என்கின்றனர்.
