Sometimes a rugged aircraft just means delaying the inevitable. You guys did soak up a helluva lot of punishment though!

TBH, the first mistake was that you turned to each other way too late while running away, despite detecting the opponent on GS's six way too early. A Thatch weave could've save both of you by winning the fight in detail.

Those bolts can really take a pounding ... but they don't have plot armor.

Great fun, epic bombing and strafing run in the beginning. Trying to out turn a Butcher Bird was a very bold strategy, as many Allied pilots found out, those F.W.'s were no easy target. Live and learn, except GS, r.i.p., plaque on the wall for the sacrifice. Watched the video twice, I might try and match it with some gun camera footage I have of P-47's strafing dock and rail yards. A fun video, that had my imagination going. As always, cheers.

On a side note: I realize you and GS play this game and I don't, but have you guys tried "The Thatch Weave"?

I think this might be one of the best, getting battered and limping for home, the cinematics really help to paint the picture (first time I’ve seen troops running)

Knowing when to break contact comes with experience, unfortunately many never had the chance to learn when enough is enough and its time to head back home, no matter what.

Longstreet was like Robert Johnson and his P-47. All shot up (over 200 bullet holes), but he made it back to his base. Sorry you did not Longstreet... R.I.P.

I hope to see more P-47 dogfights...hopefully at high altitudes where it thrived. It was a very competent fighter. I don't believe that is represented often in DCS...mainly because the fights are down low where the ground attacks are.

I've had plenty of high elevation fights, and the 109 still rules the skies in DCS. The reason is that the 109 uses time travelling technology so it's still faster and more maneuverable than every allied plane no matter where the fight is. If you want to have a more period accurate fight you need to play IL2 or jump on an early SoW server where mw50 is disabled.

@@ziljanvega3879 The P-47 is a pig in IL-2, but you're right about the German planes being ridiculously good in DCS. I suspect that's mostly because the planes in DCS are (at least in theory) based on actual surviving airframes and of course historical data, and the BF-109K probably WAS an absolutely beast with high octane fuel and the MW50...which were not readily available for most in Germany in 1945.

Man those P-47s took a respectable beating.. i love how you two tried to keep on fighting til you no longer could. Kinda wish there was an animation of the subs going under tho as final validationof the kill.. nice flying you two once again! 🤙

For any pilots coming back from germany, the white cliffs of Dover is always a good sight

That 190 A-8 really did a great job jumping you, but those 47s can sure take a beating

My father was navigator-bombardier in B-29's...Saipan to Japan and back. Towards the end, they got some escort from P-51's with drop tanks. There were some missions where one of a pair of the fighters ran out of fuel on the way back. The other guy would circle the ditching point and transmit, hoping to get a SAR fix on their position, and then ditch near his wingman. They almost never found either of them.

Guys, with the wing pylons mounted, the induced drag reduces the the top speed of the Jug by 50 MPH, indicated airspeed (IAS), (after ordinance is cleaned off). E.G. you can not run away, can't out climb, etc. Source is Francis Dean's, American's One Hundred Thousand. Other trivia, clean wing, war emergency power the bird should achieve IAS (indicated airspeed) of 360-365 MPH, cowls and shutters closed at sea level. Enjoy that bird, flown well it is very destructive...........

Awesome video guys! A simple thing here, it's great to see some DCS your tubers using (real-world) sun/glare settings!

Well the U-boat attack was well executed. I doubt that they will put to sea for a while. Shame about the dogfight. You should have done the mission in Mosquito's. You might have had the speed to run away?

SPOILERS:That was fucking awesome. The strike on the pier, at the start, was murderous. Then, to hear GS, get splashed...heartbreaking, then to see that German letting you get that close, just to hammer you like that! He was pissed!! Longshot that was a GREAT vid!

Growling: *makes sacrifice* Long shot: *laugh turn into cry* #salute!

I'd say that attacking the same ground target more than once is fine if there are no enemy AC on the map. I'd drop everything on the first pass and then get as far away as quickly as possible. After one attack you probably have enough energy to get back up to a reasonable altitude where you have options if you get jumped and you might even be high enough to have an advantage over anyone who comes hunting you.

I see longshot as that guy who was known as dirk diggler. Huge panis, very well known endowed. That’s why I say he is the 47-p of persons. Just a big machine of ass and whoop stompin. Bless his heart when he was three he took the neighbor dog into a two circle fight and let me tell you he climb better then any fighter known to man he went three foot a sec up the tree and held the high ground for seven hours till I got home bless his touched heart

Late in the war, roughly half of German submarines didn't return from their first combat patrol. The German willingness to continue the fight was always impressive.

Took me back to the last scene of Das Boot, at least the boat didn't go un-avenged. Q: How many Germans does it take to screw in a light bulb? A: Only one, Ve are very efficient und haf no senz of humor.

Low level dog fighting in a P47 is not advised lol it is a pure boom n zoom machine

It seems for ground attack you'd want to drop all the ordinance on your first pass. Turning for a second pass depletes your escape energy and you're just too vulnerable.

Man i really enjoy your vids, but your PC lacks in providing the power to provide a smooth video recording. You might want to lower some tweaks or just keep the vid 1080p. A smooth visual is more important than 4K

LOL, that would be a short engagement. I'd recommend GS & LS study the pros; Sheriff, Karaya, Adriana, Krupiniski. "Flew IL2, versions 1946, plus, for 5 years or so.......speed is life.......never climb into a fight, speed and smooth is easier:)

You seem to have lost the point of having a wingman. One guy attacks the ground. One guy watches for enemy planes. Then you can switch roles. Both of you attacking is stupid.
