Thanks for the show.

I grew up during the war and worked on F4Es in the 70s while in the air force. I have been surprised by the little "Bantam Bomber" every time I see it. It is so small and so light that you wouldn't think of using it as a fighter. It doesn't have air to air radar since it really is an attack plane intended for clear weather bombing with or without nukes. But the low wing loading makes it so perfect for dogfighting that the Navy used it for years in their Top Gun school. The Blue Angles also used for a years. I remember that there was a black pilot, cannot remember his name, the the man was well over 6 feet tall and had to squeeze his frame into that plane. Lovely little bird.

My uncle spent three years patching up Marines in Vietnam as a Navy Corpsman. Once he commented to the effect that seeing an "A" over head was always a huge stress dump because it didn't matter if it was a -1, -4, -6 or -7, they knew they'd be taken care of.

well done. The only criticism would be the historical inaccuracy of missiles used. Mig-21s should be armed with AA-2 Atolls but seem to be carrying the AA-8 Aphids. The A-4Fs (they seem to have the wider intakes) are armed with AIM-9Ls (All Aspect) instead of AIM-9B or Ds. But interesting fight …. One of you going low and causing the MIGs to lose sight of you visually and clutter could affect the Jay Bird radar. Then you pop up and surprise them as they think they are only dealing with a single A-4. North Vietnamese also used this tactic but the GCI in this mission seem to be asleep.

Yeah, I liked the lipstick on the lips of the intakes, but seems a little hi-viz for combat. Sure did look nice though.

I like that realistic sounding radio communication. Great storytelling too.

That was exciting. I puckered up when GS realized he being sought at!!! I know it's make-pretend, but it seems so real.

Great, loved it. The New Zealand airforce (RNZAF) used the scooter successfully for 31 years. I cannot believe 20 years have passed since they were decommissioned! We had sidewinders on our A-4's from 1974. Kiwi A-4's got a few kills on Sea Harriers when the HMS Invincible came to New Zealand after the Falklands war. Got a major upgrade in the 1980's with the APG-66 radar, jamming pods, ferranti 4510 HUD and maverick missiles.

@@MongooseTacticool IRL that dark green was an amazingly good camo shade for NZ. In the 90's I recall an A4K flying low down Otago Harbour with the peninsula behind it and it was very hard to track. In the end it was only the shadow that gave it away.

I'd be interested to hear about those 1983 SHAR vs A4 exercises as the RNZAF A4's wouldn't have had a radar equivalent to what the SHAR had at that stage. The A4 would be at a distinct disadvantage in spotting the SHARs at distance. The only things I've heard are A4Ks vs RAAF F-18s and of course they only mention the time they "shot all the F-18s down, bombed the airfield and went home for tea and medals." I'm sure the RNZAF probably extracted the most out of their A4s they possibly could but I feel this is a suspiciously one sided version of events and I'd like to hear if this was a result that could be reliably repeated.

This was a nice mission to watch, and now im daydreaming for the day DCS gives us the A-7 Corsair 🤘

This Vietnam era high visibility camos looks awesome! I'm waiting for more jets from this era in DCS. Great content.

Nice flying. Having GS as your number 2, that puts him a bit behind you while he is carrying A-A missiles. I'm not sure you thought that through.

If you ever saw them flying a stone's throw over your head then passing a ridge inverted, you'd change your opinion. Middling looking on the ground, gorgeous in flight. Loved Marine CAS in those.

The ones without the late-model spine look great. They look so good in Top Gun. The way they flew made the Tomcats in that movie look like diesel trucks chasing after sports cars.

@@JD-tn5lz Rolling inverted approaching a ridgeline and then pulling hard for the valley floor was very common in Vietnam for both A4 and F4 pilots. F105s and A6s, not so much.

I had an instructor at ERAU that was an aggressor squadron commander. He said he flew the A-4s in the 70's and dogfighting was MCA / riding the stall with the stick pulled to you and basically turning using rudders only. Nothing in the inventory could out turn them that slow.

The LCA Tejas, Tejas 1A Generation 4+ aircrafts and LCH Helicopters are really impressive for the Army, Air Force and Marine. And it's Airtime cost is 20 to 40% less than the Competitors. It shows the dual life efficiency of the Machines. The HAL ALH Rudra Helicopter is also best in class, economical and lethal beast.

Although designed as a ground attack aircraft, the nimble Douglas A4 Skyhawk was a great little fighter at a pinch.

Makes you wonder how things would have panned out in Vietnam if A-4s had been used in the Air to Air role.

About the same so far as 21s go anyway. The migs really only boom and zoomed. They weren't interested in dogfighting. The a4 was way too slow to d go much in the air to air role.

@@christopherwilson2785 ...yet it fought supersonic TomCats for decades at Top Gun, and downed a lot of supersonic aircraft in the IAF. With missiles you didn't need speed back then, but the F4 Phantom was available in large numbers, so for the USAF in Vietnam, it worked out better to have the A4s do attack missions.

@@roijoi6963 important to remember that missiles were (and still are to a lesser extent) incredibly unreliable, more likely than not you wouldn’t have a working AAM out of your two sidewinders.

@@tunaconsuma No, they aren't. Thousands have now been fired in combat and they are more than 80% reliable.

That was beautiful!! Love the A-4...

VMAT-102 was a training squadron. Their aircraft would not be equipped for combat missions nor were they ever deployed in-country. An A-4 could carry two AIM-9's but these guys seem to have an inexhaustible supply on them. Then there is the mismatch of the much slower A-4 vs the Mig-21.

LS and GS. Two of the baddest fighter pilots in DCS.

Those are some interesting-looking forests in Vietnam

That's impressive attention to detail. If you go to 52 seconds you can actually see the rollerons on the sidewinder.

Twin pylons for a total of 4 AIM-9s would be nice to have on those nimble birds. Great shooting from you both! I screenshotted an image of the two A-4s on they way back to base, wallpaper material. 👍😁

Those Sidewinders were definitely not the B, C nor D-models. Likely to be H or L. Moet Sidewinders used during the Vietnam War were not very all-aspect.

Ah if the pilots had this precision with the missiles of that era....

Didn't see too many A4s out there, but sure saw a bunch of F4s

It's not often GS sounds so nervous and LS has to be the saviour. It made for a delightful change. Was it because GS has little faith in the Skyhawk or LS? I'd hope that it was the former?

Operation Bolo in A4s instead of F4s. Cool! 761 F4s lost in Vietnam vs 197 A4s. Not the same mission type, but still an impressive record for the A4.

This mod is great! Hope it can get to official levels one day. Either way great looking capable bird

Hi LongShot. just a heads up. VMAT squadron would not usually be employed in combat. the T in VMAT denotes a training Squadron. The VMA stands for Marine Attack Squadron.

Australia used A4G's or F's as Fighter's and attack aircraft off our carrier HMAS Melbourne and the French wouldn't honor the contract for mantra air to air missiles during the Vietnam war so we couldn't deploy our Mirage 111/0's as Fighter we sent our Canberra bombers there though.

Skyhawk's max speed was only 800mph while mig21 was mach 2.

Love the A4 not a really gorgeous bird but got the job done

A4 vs mig15! They don’t have the mig 17 yet but the mig 17 and a4 over Vietnam would have made an interesting dogfight.

How come you guys are using the old version of the A4 mod? A new version has been out for a very long time and the sounds, textures and FM are overall just better.

A-4's weren't used for air-to-air they were for ground attack. They were typically escorted by F-8 Crusaders or Phantoms.

You would have been smoked if you were using the Aim-9B like they had back in the day. 10G overload and a weak seeker head.

Just wondering when DCS will have F-8 Crusaders and F-4 Phantom IIs available? It would be more accurate, I think.

Crusader is in early development but is confirmed to be coming. So far nobody is working on a Phantom (that we know of), and for all we know there might never be one in DCS.

Its an effect i put in Premier Pro and edit that effect to have a radio like sound
