I've seen a couple of comments asking about flowers on the plant so I'll go ahead and explain because I enjoy explaining😂: Many plants such as any type of squash including cucumber, watermelon, pumpkin, zucchini, and melons or plants such as tomatoes bloom after a certain point in their growth. The first flower to bloom are known as male flowers because they do not carry the baby fruit or vegetable. Instead, they for, a week or two before the female flowers to attract pollinators like bees. Female flowers can be seen before they bloom and are identified based off of the baby fruit or vegetable behind them. By the time these flowers bloom, it is only a matter of time before the baby fruit or vegetable becomes big and ready to pick. Pumpkins take longer usually depending on of they are bigger because of the time it takes them to become big. However, by the time a female flower blooms on something such as a squash plant, it only takes days before you can pick the squash. I hope this is helpful:)

Leigh B. Sorry for the late reply.... It looks like their could be about four or five plants there. It's always good to plant quite a few, especially if you want a better chance of harvest but the vines do get extremely long. Pumpkins can be more difficult to get fruits from with only one plant though.

I have a few questions, the first is about the flowers: do they fall off prior to the pumpkins forming, or do they stay on? the reason for that one is we have a pumpkin plant and the flowers keep falling off (or being chewed off)... the second is about what is the timeframe for the first pumpkins to show after planting?

Benjamin each plant has male and female flowers. The female flowers have a small pumpkin under them, the male flowers are the ones without that small pumpkin and die/fall off. The male flowers typically show up before the female flowers.

The pumpkin is just a fruit growing off of the vine. Like cucumbers or grapes. The roots are connected to the vine. I wish more schools taught gardening. It's a shame that any of us grow up without a hands on experience of growing our food, and really feeling what it's like to be a part of the process.
