Today we share an easy way to plant sugarcane. Growing sugarcane is easy and you can make sugar, make cane syrup, and even make rum if you learn how to process it. We have learned to grow sugarcane in Florida and in Alabama and love having our own to harvest every year.

Thanks for this. Will be watching when/how you harvest. We live in HI and grow sugarcane, but end up throwing a bunch out when harvesting as we don't have a press and for some reason won't ship to Hawaii. Would love to make syrup some day. The dogs love chewing on them. We also give some away to a lady that has a no money store; bring some take some kind of store for local veggies, plants and etc.

I already got the Crazy easy Florida Gardening book years ago when I was totally at a loss of what to grow when and pests and soil and everything about florida growing. I am an Alabama farm girl and lord I miss that Tallapoosa county sandy clay loam that grew whatever you wanted it too. We bought almost nothing from stores to eat except flour and sugar, vinegar and salt. Oh and some seed. Now I have to grow some sugar cane and get my garden tilling 14” meadow creatures I been lusting after for 3 years(they are spensive).

Hi David. I live in the Netherlands, Western Europe. It seems the climate here is comparable to zone 7b. But I never saw sugarcane growing here. Sugar here is made out of 'sugar beets', cane sugar is imported from tropical countries. I don't think the temperature here will be a problem, it's never really cold. If sugarcane likes water, the rainy weather here is okay ... But maybe it's cloudy too often? Otherwise I would like to experiment with sugarcane in my garden. What do you think?
