Good question. I worked hard on myself; to identify my personal flaws, to really understand what I needed and as a result, the business needed. I then saw someone that had that skill set, his name was Aaron. I offered him a job straight away and he moved into my house. I think we often complicate processes in our mind. Stop that. Decide what you need. Get it.

Educate them, offer progress and give them more responsibility as they grow. Let people change your mind if they come up with better ideas. I’ve been blessed to have my senior team around since pretty much the start. I think trust is another winner winner chicken dinner that keeps people around. I often say…. You decide. That’s powerful

Hi James, hope you're well! I'm trying to start up a welding and fabrication business, not too sure what to specialise in as there's lots of things I could specialise in that would bring in good money. I'm just struggling for time and motivation, working 5 days a week full time, going to the gym 4 times a week, and my day job is the same type of work as my business idea, so by the time I get to my unit, I'm so burnt out and don't have alot of time anyway! Any tips and advice on this would be massively appreciated! Harrison.

I have a question also James. When managing the systems put into place, how do u know if that system is a good one or a bad one that needs restructuring. Surely u can put a lot of faith into the wrong master of 10,000 hrs without realising it. Many thanks Gareth

Management accounts aka P and L will quickly tell you if you’re system is profitable. If the management accounts show poor performance the system/model/team/business needs a fix. That’s the worse part of my job in many ways. I go where there’s a thing that needs a fix. As do most scale entrepreneurs . It’s the way life is. Teachers have to spend most of their time with the naughty kids! If income is down, or we start a new thing; whilst it’s broken….. I’m in fixing it. I get to do the fun stuff for a short period.

This was such a useful video James. Thanks for sharing this. I’m at a real cross roads with my business where I am doing not enough (but still a fair bit) of income generating tasks, but far too much of the day to day “superhero” work as you put it too. What this ultimately has led to is burnout (it’s real people!) and a bit of a bottle neck to my scalability. I’m not adverse to working hard but I think what you’ve quite eloquently explained in this video is the importance of working smart too. So as always, thanks for sharing your knowledge for free. It’s grateful appreciated

Selling on line is tough without brand and lots of content; Party Pieces ( our on line shop ) has 30 years of history and a team behind it and it’s a tough one to crack. We send catalogues in the post. We work hard on off line tactics to drive people direct to us. I think k if you’re selling something that others are selling then it’ll be very tough to compete with Amazon.

@@JamesSinclairEntrepreneur I sell imported confectionery, drinks, snacks, chocolate etc from all countries around the world, always new sku's and these days everyone always wants something new to try. I've built it to 900k sales in 2 years and easily can pass £1 million next year. I think my future is calling for something much bigger though, so I'm thinking of putting the business up for sale to move onto bigger things.

I don’t think I’d be here, some of the early ones were hard but have been able to continue, as we learnt about better businesses. Plus all my businesses work in one big eco system. Plus having multiple businesses that fold into a big eco system allows me to see which ones work really well. Example. My property business has benefited by being a LL to our trading companies. My food service business benefits from 1.6m of revenue from all our trading companies. Our ice cream business benefits from being able to supply all our venues. Our arts and crafts and toy business supplies all our shops at our venues….. Plus when people want to get promoted, rather than leave we offer a further opportunity in the group. Hope that helps.
