    I know that when checking a plant to see if it needs water, you usually just stick your finger an inch into the soil and see if it's dry or not. But how much water should you be giving it and how often? I have a plant (from a clipping) in a kind of bigger pot (maybe 8 inches in diameter) and I think I've been giving it more than 3 cups. But I fear that I'm over watering it.

    So they will survive forever in a pot or would eventually have to be replanted into the ground? I'm looking to keep a small one like that, no bigger but I'm worried it would die from the lack of space? Also, would any type of mulberry tree work in a pot or just this one specifically?

  • @LogeesPlants

    @LogeesPlants

    They can be grown in pots for many years especially the Dwarf ever bearing and the Issai. After many years you might need to root prune them in early spring but we just keep feeding them and they grow in the same pots for decades. That said the larger growing varieties like Illinoi ever bearing and Pakistan would need root pruned every few years and hard top pruning every year.

    If you want to keep it on the small side, you just have to make sure to keep up on the pruning. Also, grow in full sun.

    Hello, I recently purchased Issai and only found the same general care information on both the regular dwarf and the Issai regarding outdoor winter hardiness. I live in Redmond Washington zone 8a. Is it better or necessary for it to go through winter dormancy? Or should I try to protect it or even bring it inside under lights for the winter? I would prefer to leave it outside if I can. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

  • @LogeesPlants

    @LogeesPlants

    You can leave the plant outdoors, however, it will need to be mulched the first few years to protect the root system. When the plant is outdoors, it will go dormant during the winter.

  • @LogeesPlants

    @LogeesPlants

    8 жыл бұрын

    A balanced fertilizer will do the trick. If they are not fruiting and the cutting came from fruiting plants then if could be to much nitrogen. Try a fertilzer that has a ratio like 7-9-5. Be sure they are in full sun and don’t over pot. Sometimes just restricting the root system will do it. Some varieties of mulberry take long to come into fruit than others when propagated form cutting..

    This mulberry is a Japanese cultivar that flowers and fruits successively throughout the growing season. Its fruit is much larger than the ‘Dwarf Everbearing’ and the growth is heavier with a more open growth habit. It starts fruiting at an early age and can be maintained in a pot for years to come with a little help from the pruning shears.

    I live in Zone 10a and have a dwarf everbearing mulberry starter plant. You say full sun but it gets scorching out here during the summer, are you sure it's ok in my zone? Since it is a small plant still, I've been keeping it in partial sun just in case. Do I have to stake it?

    It will take full sun even in the southern US. If grown under high light it doesn’t need to be staked.
