This is awesome. I will be trying kratky with a few things & wondered what tomato plant wouldn't get too big. I'll have to grab seeds for those.

So far these are the only small/dwarf varieties I’ve tried outdoor (orange hat and Red Robin- determinate). Heirloom like Cherokee purple and others do well in 5gallon bucket too. They grow big though and you may need to trellis it. 🌱😊

I’m currently growing micro dwarf Christmas tree tomato plants, I have two of them growing indoors and they currently have tomatoes on them. No signs of them turning red yet, but I am anxiously awaiting that transformation! They are growing well but have only reached a height of about a foot. It will be interesting to see what the future holds.

LOVE THIS!! The fact that you took plastics that would normally just get thrown away and used them and they contained things people consumed to begin with so no arguments can be made about growing with plastic! Love this!! I also am growing two micro dwarf Christmas tree tomato plants and they have fruited and I’m waiting for them to ripen! Seems like forever when they first put on the blossoms! Can’t wait until they are a beautiful red!! Yours were amazing! I wish you would do a much slower version of how to save the seeds from the tomatoes and did you have to do anything special? I’ve seen a lot of varying ideas regarding this and some say that the tomato must be left in the juices until they begin to rot and ferment, did you do anything like that? I’ve not tried seed saving yet but will be in the near future and I could sure use some advice. Thanks! 🥰❤️🙏🏻🇨🇦

Thank you so much for your feedback Leanne.💜 I appreciate it and will keep it in mind to extend timing/phasing of the video. For this experiment, I used fresh seeds from the tomato fruit and removed the gel coat from the seeds and wash them thoroughly. I do however, made a video on how to save seeds with fermentation process here is the video link kzread.info/dash/bejne/doZ-o5WmiciuXco.html. Pardon me if the timing might be faster too, please try to hit the pause button if it does🙂. Mee too is a bit intrigued with fermented and unfermented seeds benefits. I plan to make an experiments comparing the two method. 🌱🙂

Thank you! They are Christmas socks and aluminum foil for larger container. I got them from a bargain store. They are growing in 32oz (kimchi jars), 1.5L (listerine bottle), 3.8L (orange juice bottle) and 1 gallon(vinegar jug). It would be best to use a half or one gallon containers to reduce frequent refills. All the best to you and keep growing!🌱🙂

Do those tomatoes grow bigger in larger containers (ex. 5 gallon)? They seem to be a micro dwarf and determinate, but I'd want something that can produce more fruit

  • @healinghobbies

Yes, these are micro dwarf varieties and they don't grow larger regardless of container size. I tried growing them Dutch bucket and not much difference at least in my experience. Maybe try cherry tomatoes they do well on 5 gallon containers. You may have to refill few times but its manageable. If you looking for many fruits Black Strawberry Tomato (not dwarf though) is one of the good ones I've grown in 5 gallon styrobox it's prolific. 🌱🙂

I’ve grown a cherry tomato plant indoors that was an indeterminate and I had it in 102litre storage tote and it grew like crazy indoors! I was constantly hacking away (aka pruning and not really knowing what I was doing and honestly still don’t)at the growth and the plant just continued to thrive despite my constant chopping of its branches. I discovered something sort of interesting when I just let it grow it would grow branches out and over the side of the container and instead of growing up to the sunny windows and grow lights it would head to the floor first and then once it discovered where it was it would head upwards. I found that so interesting and of course once it put on fruit it would become sagged down and would lay down wherever it could. I tried several ways of supporting it with tying it up and using clips etc. but nothing worked very well the plant didn’t like to be shown how to grow and wouldn’t accept any help. Most limbs that had been assisted died off the fastest. It was really frustrating because I’ve seen so many videos and photos with these beautifully strung tomatoes etc. but mine would have none of it. I think I prefer micro dwarf plants and there is a whole amazing world of varieties of them now! Some have been propagated with large tomatoes and although the plant is small it will produced small to medium size tomatoes. I’m looking into ordering more of these varying varieties of seeds.

I have a couple of questions. Currently I have Orange Hat in a 1 gallon jar in a 2" net cup. I have Christmas Tree micro dwarf in a 2" net cup in a 5 gallon tote. Both doing great. But both of them get side heavy with tomatoes and lean which flips the net up cup a little so I have to add weights. What do you suggest to stop needing to use the weights? Do you know if a larger net cup would stop that? Hubby tells me it would not. Also my tomatoes are so thick with leaves I can barely find the tomatoes. Yours look like they are pruned. What information can you give me how to prune and make mine looks as nice as yours? I like that they are opened up and not crammed with leaves.

Yes they are prolific and get heavy for a small plants. Growing indoor I use a twine and tie them upright on the shelves rack to support them. Outdoors I use a bamboo stick. I start pruning when the fruits are big enough and just waiting to ripen specially the red ones. They grow a lot of leaves unlike the orange hat.🌱🙂
