Growing Goji Wolfberrry plants from seeds & propagating cuttings.wmv

Ғылым және технология

Why are Gojis good for you? Because they detoxify your body. My Goji or Wolfberry plants are growing tall enough for me to harvest. They grow nicely in the Northeast of the US. The plants produce red berries later in the season. The berries are highly prized as they have a lot of antioxidants. The soup made from the leaves are believed to be good for the eyes as they detoxifies your body. It's best to incorporate the berries into food recipes rather than eating them alone. It's been reported that Gojis can have a blood thinning effect.
The better berries come from Tibet and in your own backyard if you don't use pesticides.
You can grow the plants using the seeds from the berries. Soak the berries and take out the seeds and start them in pots. Take them outside when they are a few inches tall and they will be there year after year.
You can also propagate them from the cuttings.
I made a video of using the berries and the leaves and here's the Link:

    thanks, for the video, I have 3 Goji Berry plants growing (started from seeds, that I got over the internet). Your video really helps. I was timing up a Pomegranate (Wonderful) plant, & as a after thought, I bundled up all the rather small branches (that look like the ones you cut off, although I left the leaves on them (that turned brown & fell off)) & planted them in one whole together, & what do you know some of them put out roots & started to grow. After a about 8 months I separated them off into 4 plants. I now have a 'Angle Red' Pomegranate plant also, that I hope to propagate the same way, although I will plant the steams separately. I'm glad to see the Goji Berry plants will do the same, & that I can eat the leaves. I'm trying to grow my greens to eat, & do it with out to much work. Thanks again.

    Aside from the leaves, you can put some of the stalks in too. That's a tip from my mom. I'll check with her to see what it is good for.

    I love my goji bushes. I don't dry out the berries. I was them and let dry on a towel. Then I ziplock them in the freezer and they're like just picked off the bush when I eat them. I'm not sure why everyone dehydrates them.

    My plants have become long, about 12 inches, but they are very thin, and they are hanging down. Should I cut them at some point? They have been in my window, but have taken them down because I was afraid they were growing too fast because of the sun... ?

    I'm at 40 degree latitude with very cold winters. They won't die. In fact, it's more of a problem if I want to get rid of them because they are so hardy, mine anyway. Just be realistic, not every replanting will survive. And also, they don't yield that many berries. The captions are for anyone who has trouble understanding me, including the hearing impaired. I'm glad you don't need them. Thanks for the comment.

    Yes you can grow plants from the seeds. The flowers are self and cross pollinating and they can make berries on their own. I don't get many berries from my Goji plants though so I mostly make soup out of the leaves.

    Replantación de ellos. Mi madre me dijo que si se ponen marrones, cortar la parte superior dejando una pulgada por encima del suelo. A ver si va a crecer el próximo año. Algunos realmente pueda crecer. Pueden ser muy resistente. Buena suerte.

    Very good and informative video. I like your manner very much: you are easy to listen to. I have L. barbarum I just got. Ground here is very hard because we have a drought for almost ten years now. I want to grow it in pots so I can move it to shade when it gets 115 degrees for weeks in the summer. What should I use in the pot to plant it so it will bear fruit and make lots of leaves? Every place I look online seems to say something different. Thanks--BTW, I subscribed so I can see more of your vids.

    LL Mcbee They are pretty hardy. Maybe you can just use potting soil to start. They are a little like bamboo and can spread and take over so pots would be good. If they can grow on regular dirt in my backyard, they can probably grow anywhere. I don't know about the 115 degree heat though. Do you live in desert like area?

  • @llmcbee1875

    @llmcbee1875

    wtam69 Yes, it is Texas. It can go for up to a month with the heat high like that. And it will stay over 100 for 4 months or so. If it is in a pot I can move it to a shady place. Do you mean potting soil or potting mix will work? Thank you for answering so fast.

  • @wtam69

    @wtam69

    9 жыл бұрын

    Yes, I meant like the miracle grow type potting mix should work. I started planting some next to the side of the house and the wife pull them up for fear it would spread. At the time, I just used regular topsoil and added no fertilizer in the beginning. When they are stronger and more established, then you have to fertilize every year. Good luck in your attempt.

    Thank you! I have a gogi berry bush growing in a very large terracotta pot in my Orlando back yard where it enjoys sun and partial shade most days. I planted it from a seedling I purchased on line about 17 months ago. Though the plant gives me little purple flowers I have not yet gotten any fruit. I understand that it could take three years. I water it every day, and have fertilized with Miracle-Gro.
