Preparing the dahlias for winter storage
Dahlias
Dahlias start flowering in July and will continue to flower until the first frost, so they have a very long flowering season.
Their flowers come in many sizes from the tiniest pompons to the giant dinner-plate varieties, there are several shapes, including the round ball shaped decorative varieties, the spiky cactus types, the delicately pretty waterlilies and the pin-cushion shaped anemones.
They come in every colour apart from blue, and there are dahlias that reach 9 feet / 3 metres tall, whilst others only reach 18 inches / 40 centimetres.
So there is a dahlia suitable for every garden, and they can even be grown in pots.
Geoff and Heather have been growing dahlias for many years and use the different shapes and sizes to help create a tiered effect in their garden in Cheshire. Together with salvias, fuchsias, and bedding plants they have managed to create a riot of summer colour.
Each September they open their garden to the public as part of the U.K. National Garden Scheme.

I loved the seedlings you produces, especially the white (not cactus, not decorative) and the pink one! I hope you continue growing them and they will put on a great show next year for you 🙏🏻. Otherwise I would absolutely happily adopt them into my garden 🥰 as I don’t exhibit or show my little garden so it doesn’t matter what variety or type they belong to :) they flower and give out happiness. That’s all that matters 👍🏻

So many still good flowers! Would it be too much work to cut them off, stick it in a bucket to donate to libraries, foster homes, hospitals, etc? Maybe someone from a nursing home would be willing to pick up at your doorstep. Your beautiful, exquisite flowers would sure brighten up a lot of people’s days ☀️🌸🌼🍂

Really well done video, but I'm curious as to why you don't cut the blooming dahlias, strip the stems, and donate them to either a Senior Citizens' Home or a Children's Ward in a hospital, etc. Then put the remainder in the compost. I'm lucky because I get to leave mine in the ground over winter!
