I can't wait to get the ball rolling with seed from Northwoods Whitetail, blends include, clover and chicory, clover, buckwheat and the soil builder blend. Great video on soil tests John. Great minds must think alike as I just cleaned out my pails to collect 15 soil samples here today. I religiously soil tested every year in April or May for some 20-25 years but with my no-till and cover crop practice over the past 8 years my soil nutrient levels and OM have consistently been very good so I did not soil test at all the past 2 years. I also used zero synthetic fertilizers over the past 2 years so I think it is time to see where we are at again. I do plan to try out using foliar applications of Liquid Fertilizer - at least in my brassica plots this year. FWIW - I finally purchased a stainless soil probe several years back so I could pull consistent 6 inch cores very quickly. Makes it so much simpler. I also divide my larger destination plots (3.5 acres) into 2 or sometimes 3 different samples as I practice the 2 or 3 different strip plantings in those plots, the same as you do. I was surprised to see Brad suggest submitting a quart of soil per sample?? I have always sent in only about a half of a zip lock sandwich bag have never been told it wasn't enough, but I just checked with WA and they said they would prefer a full sandwich baggie. I guess I'll have to start sending in a little more. One thing I would have liked to have seen in the video is the cost for the tests at the 2 labs you highlighted. I have been using Waypoint Analytical in Memphis, TN, for quite a few years now. This is the same lab that does the soil testing for both Whitetail Institute and Mossy Oak Biologic. When I go direct to Waypoint Analytical the cost for the basic S1M test (macro nutrients, pH, OM, CEC & base saturation) the cost is still only $10. To include the micros it costs an additional $10.

Make sure phosphorus:zinc ratio should be at 4 or 8:1. If not your soil will be locked up

I put a lot of dolomite lime on my plots to get the PH up over the years and now my magnesium levels are way hi and I’m sure this is something lots of plotters have encountered and I’d luv to see a video on the possible affects whether they be positive or negative and any amendments to counteract the situation if necessary

Fertilizers question: does 24-24-24 fertilizer have more nutrients than 13-13-13 for the same quantity of fertilizer?

If you are breaking ground on a new food plot with sandy soil, do yourself a favor and bring in a load of topsoil and a load of compost to incorporate into what you got. The more, the better. You'll save money in the long run. 🌱 Happy Farming! Show ideas: Boron, Selenium, moles, pond/swamp silt as an OM till-in?

Very expensive and won’t do much. Plant soil building/ OM plants in spring and summer and grains in the fall. A dump truck or two of manure won’t do much on a food plot . Screened topsoil is $18-$25 a yard. Thats is gonna be expensive.

I ordered fall forage and clover from you last fall and it did really well. The clover has came in thick this spring. I'm wanting to plant Buckwheat then maybe some more fall forage and crimson clover about 7 weeks later. Can I broadcast the Buckwheat into the standing clover or should I kill off the clover then broadcast the Buckwheat?
