Growing Beets From Seed To Harvest - The Definitive Guide

Time To Grow Some Beets! A relatively unheralded root crop when compared to carrots and potatoes, beets are a garden treasure like no other. The entire plant is edible and depending on your climate, you can plant beets more than once a year!
Today, let's look at all the things that go into creating the best beet crop! Seeding, germination, growth, maintenance, and of course the harvest! We'll even look at storage for your beets as well. Dwight Shrute would be proud! Enjoy.

Same here! I've tried different varieties, different timing, different soils. Nothing works 🤨 They germinate fine, grow 2 or 3 inches, most of the leaves turn red and that's it. No more growth, no tap root, nothing. Last year I left them in all winter. The leaves grew a bit more, but that's all.

We have slugs so maybe that would affect the low number of surviving seedlings, but why they just sit there is a mystery to me. It’s lows in the 50d, highs in the 70s/80s right now

Hey, thanks for watching! For beets, I'd go containers... You can grow unlimited amounts in large containers. Then, find a crop the maggots don't like and cycle them through for a couple of seasons. Once clear, move back to beets. Also grow cover crops over winter to prevent egg laying
