Growing an Oak tree from seed indoors!
Ойын-сауық
Hi everyone, over the last 3 months I've germinated an acorn in water and grown it on indoors over the winter here in the UK, this was just an experiment to keep my itchy growing fingers busy during the colder months.
The experiment has been very successful and I've grown a healthy twin embryo oak tree from seed indoors in the winter.
I've filmed multiple updates throughout and explained as much as I can.
Hope you enjoy todays video, any questions please leave a comment.
Thank you for watching.

Howdy Kit!👋 Nice to see ya...you're looking well. That's a beautiful sapling...I think that's what you call a baby tree.🤔 Love the leaf shape and tones. It's cute! I'm looking forward to your update.👍

@@GrowWithKit kit, I hope you get to feeling well soon. 🌻
Have you ever started (or I guess germinated) an acorn that hadn’t begun to germinate on its own yet? I can’t find an oak tree with acorns that have already started…the squirrels have gotten to them already?
I potted my acorns in October 22, I'm looking forward to spring to get them out, they did very well.

That’s great 😃 I hope they do well this year.
My daughter brought home an oak sapling. It is currently warm outdoors. Should I grow it on my balcony or indoors? Not sure where to place it, I dont have any tables by a window or window sills. When the weather gets cold, should I bring it inside until early spring? Thank you.
I did it with water and they molded also - not a good idea. Best way is to just put them under ground and water them once on a week. Worked for mine. Now i'm picking up spruce and pine cones and i'm gonna make some seedlings. Late winter and early spring is the best time to collect some cones.

I know mate, this was just an experiment to see if I could grow them indoors over winter, germination in water was just for fun. Thanks for the comment and good luck with your pines and spruce.

When you say you're going to put them outside, do you mean outside in a pot? or into the ground?
I would like to see an updated video on your Oak sapling as i am doing the same this year

Will try and get an update soon, thanks 😊
thanks for the vid. There aren't any native oaks around me where I live (or any native trees. desert) and long story short. I got some acorns. One had a root growing and now I have an oak growing inside my house. Not very big yet. 4 small leaves, still pretty fragile looking. Anyways! Do you have any tips for growing an oak indoors? Even the basics could be helpful. I've never tried to keep a plant alive before, And, at what points should I think about moving it into a bigger pot?
did you use any grow lights? Its winter here in Texas and I have a Shumard Oak tree and Im curious if I need a grow light. I have it sitting on the south facing window seal for full sun tho.
Mine been growing since November..about 40 in lucozade ..lemonade ..coke bottle ect ..all about four inches tall at the minute and about 20 in small pots ..all doing great too the Mrs doesn't appreciate all the window sills being used as green house thoe 🤣

😂 that’s great, good luck with them 🌱🌱😊🌱🌱
Hey. I do this every year for the past 5 or so years. I do the whole fridge thing and what not, and it works well. My problem is: how do I keep the root bud from rotting after I plant it? I try not to water too much but then they dry out and die. If I keep it wet; it rots out and dies. I'm only successful in having maybe 3-5 grow out of 20-30 acorns. Does anybody have a suggestion? PS. I don't have an oak tree in my backyard like you; but that's okay because I enjoy the hunt. Last question: What Oak tree is that? I believe it's a White Oak. White oaks don't require stratification but I think Red oaks do. Thanks for the videos and the enthusiasm.
I would cut the smaller growth on the tree let the roots just feed the one main stem

I did think about that but then thought it might be cool to have a dual trunk tree.
