Grow Wings and Fly [King Gizzard 2023 Tour Documentary]
Музыка
NOTE: This DIY film is made from my point-of-view on the tour and simply a documentation of my personal experiences and the portion of the fanbase that I interacted with. If this angle is not appealing to you, don't watch! It is not meant to make any statements about the fanbase as a whole but rather be a time capsule and straightforward documentation of this exciting era in Gizz’s history. Just because I filmed something doesn't mean I necessarily support it - I'm just showing you. (It's a documentary!) I made this for fun and to show why we love this awesome band. I and the people who travel for Gizz realize we are very lucky to be able to do this, and all of us make sacrifices in our lives, work hard, and allocate our spending in order to afford it. People of all backgrounds have been following bands like this for decades - it's nothing new. Traveling for Gizz is a fun hobby that brings us joy and connects us to other music lovers. The people you get to know in this doc are kind, awesome people who just love music. Also, in my opinion, it is simply not weird to be "obsessed" with good music. :)
* Watch in 1440p or 2160p for best quality (use the wheel icon on the bottom right of the video to select either quality setting) and sounds best with headphones! *

Documentary following King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard’s 2023 14-show U.S. residency tour. The most prolific, exciting, and dynamic band of our time... There is just no one like them.
I made this documentary with only a point-and-shoot camera and no crew… it’s rough but it’s real :) Huge thank you to all the amazing fans/friends involved and to @mysteryjackofficial and Hunter Richards for letting me mix-in their audio.
Being a Gizz fan is one of the greatest joys of my life.
Love, Carter

Dude! This is simply amazing! Such a great and genuine portrait of a whole subculture through an artistic statement. I'm really overwhelmed by this. This is really what some (if not most) contemporary music documentaries lack nowadays. An unpretentious genuine and personal look. Congratulations!

The dude with long hair in the yellow shirt at 28:21 is my dad, pretty awesome to see him here
Carter! Had to tel you I re-watched this for 2nd time - and I will watch it again - at the end of the- when you speak of why King Gizz means so much to you - I sob…. I feel the exact same way - they speak to my soul - I do belong on this earth in this age - while I haven’t officially met the weirdo swarm - I cannot wait to join in this year - I’ll be seeing my first 4 shows …. And I’m bringing friends - while they aren’t quite as crazy as I am - they do like em - and I have to tell you what my friend called the weirdo swarm - the “nerd herd” 😂😂😂😂 I love that too! Oh!!! And I’m listening to Sea of Trees for the first time ever - as I type this - they played it in 22 and bobdylanlovr69 got it on you tube - didn’t know Sea of Trees was their first name - and apparently - it’s Lucas’ favorite song - I can hear why…. Love and Hugs to all and again - can’t wait to be around people that get it….
Without a doubt, one of the most well done fan made anything I’ve ever seen ever. Got engaged to my fiancé on a mountain in Colorado, had the vacation of a lifetime, all based around seeing the first show at Red Rocks 2023. Life changing to say the least. This documentary is stamped in history, thank you so much to everyone involved in making it so magical.

We’re called the “Weirdo Swarm?!” See how much I’m learning watching this documentary!? I can’t wait to be among my peeps! This 2024 tour will be my first time seeing King Gizz live…. It was tough not seeing them in 2023… but here I go! Flying toward the Swarm!
Love how it’s also a beautiful story of two friends going on an adventure and the way they treat each other and everyone else is inspiring ❤

my life would have no meaning without this band
Thank you for making this! This doc is such a beautiful snapshot of the band and the surrounding community. For those like me who could only make one stop on the tour, it was really kind of you to take us along for the rest of it and to preserve it for posterity. I hope to see y'all and many of the amazing folks featured in this film next summer and fall. Peace and love!

HIGH VALUE CONTENT! THANX CARTER!
I absolutely adore this! As an Australian this really highlights why Gizz have gone all in on American shows; the community is so vast and deep out there, I desperately wanna have the money to go out there and hit a residency. But alas, one day I will see the Gizz live!
Incredible work wow wow

Thanks Carter for catching me at four different show across four different states see yall in 2024
The vicarious joy this gives me! What a beautiful piece of work you've put together and how blessed are we to be in this time of the Gizz. Not only are they virtuosic musicians, they are to me, a prime example of the power of leadership - a band with a great ethos and attitude begetting a fanbase that is mostly of similar ethos and attitude. Work hard, play hard, take care of each other, have gratitude and don't take yourself too seriously. Theirs is not a pompous or scuzzy virtuosity, so their fanbase are not pompous or scuzzy. They share their music freely and encourage bootlegging and thus we get other works of art like this, creative bootleg merch, and awesome remixes from the fanbase. Thank you again for capturing the love.

This is awesome, the concept of groups of fans following bands around the country was popular in the UK in the 80's with bands such as The Mission and New Model Army whose support, loyalty and friendship amongst fans continues to this day.

Night 3 at Remlinger was my first Gizz show ever after listening to them since 2018, being able to see the show and catch glimpses of my girlfriend and I made my entire day. Thanks for making this!
This is incredibly well done! As someone with 2 young kids, I live vicariously through music docs like this. The editing, sound quality of the live clips, and overall story is raw and genuine and I didn't want it to end. Very thankful this popped up on my feed, great job Carter!

Great documentary! I'm looking forward to seeing them later this year! Thank you for labeling all the songs (and people, too), so I could make notes to check them out on the music apps. I liked the glimpse of the Rail rider community as well. I go to a lot of concerts, but usually stroll in just in time for the first set. I've always been curious about the dedicated pit folks.
I was at the Hollywood Bowl, which was one of the most stacked setlists I've ever heard. I was there with my Dad and it was the best concert I've ever been to. I love this band and y'all so much.
This is brilliant, the rest of the fans are lucky to get to see projects like this.

Out here living my dream 😂
Met and chatted to Jack at the show in Manchester UK last year! My guy followed them across the globe. Absolute legend. Very different scene in the UK but it has its own sense of crazy. Sick doc!
Awesome doc! At some point I started to wonder what it was like for some of the recurrent show-goers, getting their POV of some of the shows they went from how they traveled there until how they moved to the next date. Thank you for gathering all of this, it's priceless!

Did 10 shows this tour, crazy how I was there for so much of this but just offscreen because I was too shy. This whole thing really takes me back like nothing else has.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤love yr film even better than the 12 hour cut I’ve been watching …. Long life and prosperity to the Gizz ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Man that Caverns acoustic set was out of this world. With the extended weather delay I had already surrendered to the fact that I probably wasn't going to see them that night. But the show went on and when they started with Lonely Steel Sheet Flyer, one of my favorite King Gizz deep cuts, I was in bliss
A two-hours plus video about people talking about every damn song of this band, this is just insane Beautiful crazy people united by a single rock band, what a wonderful record of humanity all over, I love that !
"This is going to be the chillest show ever" *Proceeds to have face melted off*
this is the most beautiful thing ive ever seen. see y'all weirdos in AZ this year
I love every bit of this! Last year I travelled from brazil to london to see them perform for the first time. It was a blast! That part in the end you said you always felt a little off except when with gizz fans, that hit hard here...i want to be part of that someday!

This is so fucking awesome. If i could save enough money to see them for every show on one of their tours, i wish i could. This is simly amazing. Started listening to gizz in 2017 and been a fan since.
This is wonderful. It’s so cool to see how much creativity there is in the Gizz community. Such a special band!
Thank you for making this. We were at all 3 nights in Chicago, and you have done a fantastic job of capturing the Gizz show energy.
I appreciate that this doc shows the eternal gratitude we can find in a great source of inspiration. Obsession really is good for us, life is cool.
Loved this footage. I turn 50 when they play Chicago this year and I'd love nothing more than to be there on that rail. I've never seen them before.
Night 4 in TN is a holy moment. I dunno how energy like that can get any better in any living moment that I have been a live for..... although I wasn't there in person, I have been there in my head and heart so many times.

Thank you so much! I fell in love w KGLW almost 2 years ago - during COVID -Watching Justin Hawkins Rides Again… I think it was Catching Smoke and then People Vultures and then Rattlesnake and then Gamma Knife, Crumbling Castle, Kepler 22b, KEXP - Red Mars for the Rich.. Billabong Valley…. And then.. The Murlocs… anyway.. I’m going to see them 4 times in 2024… got tickets.. NYC & Red Rocks!,, Never been to Red Rocks… although I’ve lived out west… I love how a fan said it was his first time west of the Mississippi for the band… I’m bringing a friend to NYC and we’re meeting up w another friend of mine for Red Rocks… like another fan/artist said - we’re 3 different generations.. I just love all that I learned about the community and set lists and the regulars… we’ll call ya… I want a cute hat or teeshirt or dress… just really excited… thank you for doing this documentary and you have some great footage from close up and thank you for the subtitles…. I needed them in a couple places where I had seen the same concert but couldn’t be for sure what was being said… oh my god… that teeshirt of Stu all sweaty w eyes rolled back and tongue out? I just had to put my jaw back in place… I was catching flies… looking forward to seeing you there - but I won’t be at the rail or pit - I’ll be fine in the way back or side…
The fact that Grow Wings and Fly is not an actual lyric in Shanghai is rather beautiful, no?

Carter this is awesome, thank you. You captured so many compelling moments during that historic tour. This reminds me of my days on tour with Phish in the 90s. See you on the next Gizz tour!
Carter… you nailed this whole thing! It was so much fun to follow along with you guys through the whole tour!!! This literally is my favorite video ever and will be watching it on repeat! I’m always trying to find ways to kind of fill the void of no Gizz shows right now and this did it for me 💖 seriously though props to you for spending the time to show everyone why king gizzard and the lizard wizard is the best band ever! Rattlesnake/Honey opener at show #9 was my favorite of the two nights I went in Chicago, but show #10??? Epic. Absolutely astounding I've been listening/watching that June 13th concert non stop since June 13th. KGLW is pretty much the only music I've listened to since Omnium was released. I don't have time for anything else, honestly.

loved this! i'm a huge gizzhead, but only seen them 4 times since becoming a fan in 2017 and likely will only be able to see them once or twice in '24, but mad respect to those that follow the tours and get to see all the amazing shows along the way. music for the soul
