Wow! Dude I’m sorry. How old are you? I can’t imagine what it’s like to not be able to skate at all. That must be really hard. I’m very sorry to hear that. As great as skateboarding is, there’s definitely more to life than just skateboarding. Hang in there! And please feel free to share more if you’re open to it. I’m sure there are many on here who could empathize and show some comments of support.

Man don't do it I dealt with it and I understand what it feels like, so look life isn't over just take time to your self and try to recover over time you will start feeling better then you can get back to skating but you can't overwork yourself then get mad at your self for not working as hard you are just tired so try to recover

Dude, I turn 38 in June so I can relate to everything you're saying. The "You're too old for this" comments are weird, and I just counter with, "Do you say that to someone who goes out to golf, plays tennis or still runs over a certain age?" It's just another hobby, and age doesn't have to stop anyone from doing it. Also it's so dumb cause everyone knows who Tony Hawk is and dude is older and still rips. So why even question it? 😂

I always think of this: we don’t stop playing because we grow old, we grow old because we stop playing” one of the best things is seeing all these older guys back into skating and posting it. Every post motivates so many others in the world. I remember when I stopped then tried to start again in my late 20s/early 30s and felt embarrassed now it’s common to see so many older guys skating a en having fun!

My experience: I'm 55 and going as hard as I can. Don't let people shame you for wearing full padding most of the time. It'll add years to your expected lifetime on a skateboard. Don't be intimidated by the kids, challenge their dads for a game of skate, they probably can't even shuvit. And skate moms are the hottest thing around at the skatepark.

My younger brother has always been a skater and still is at 34. I am 44 and didn't even skateboard until last year. My brother is the one that got me into just cruising to help me get some balance and to mainly shed some weight. I am thankful for skateboarding and my brother because its help me shed 45 pounds in 11 months. It also has made me a lot closer with my brother and even though I don't do skateboard tricks we both enjoy seeing each other just ride and be free. Best thing about this is all my blood test results seemed good and I even got off high blood pressure medication from using skateboarding as a tool to get me active and healthy. I just love it so much and its awesome to see people like you having such a deep passion for it. I am just sad I didn't pick it up sooner.

I'm 39 (40 in August) and I got back on my skate last season for the first time in 20 years last season. Best decision I have made in a while. It has helped me a lot mentally and brought a joy back to me I hadn't had in a while. About 3 years ago I stumbled on a Andy Anderson video and he got me interested in watching skateboarding again, from there I found Dan Corrigan's channel and pretty much watched his videos for a year, all while thinkin I was too old to start skating again. Last year I made a move across the country and had zero friends in my new home town, I had some cousins who lived close and one of their 8 year old sons wanted to get into skating but was nervous and had no one to skate with. I told him if he got he a skate that I would go out and buy one too so he had some one to skate with. Well, he didn't enjoy skating much and gave up after a couple weeks, me on the other hand instantly fell in love again. At first it felt weird being and "old man" at the skate park alone but I got over that fast and now none of that matters. I made friends with some people close to my age and met a bunch of rad young dudes that are fun to skate with as well. Age is only a number when it comes to skating. For any one thinking about getting back into it but is worried about the age thing, all I can say is just do it, you wont regret it.

So, I’m 48 now. Skating was different back when I started in 1991 at 15. We didn’t have facilities anywhere, except maybe some really, really badly designed and crusty snake runs etc. which meant skating was something we did on the street (as you would know). It was also the era of street skating actually becoming its own thing. I then spent 15 years literally skating the streets with my small screw of buddies. We. Loved. it. Going from spot to spot either late at night or mostly on Sunday. We had a ledge for the times it rained, a bank under a bridge, some curbs at a library, some benches at a school and went from each one as we felt the need. Skateboarding was such an embodiment of my spirit and it was absolutely central to who I was. Fast forward to 30, and street skating was increasingly challenging. At that point like you I had a job, relationship etc. but that wasn’t the issue. The issue was being a 30 year old getting kicked out of spots, or generally harassed for being where we weren’t supposed to be. And then one night skating our local spot, I broke my foot and decided that was it, I was no longer going to skate. It wasn’t worth the injury. So I stopped. Here I am now at 48. I have kids who are teenagers and one recently asked if she could have a new skateboard, one like my old one (a trick board versus the cruiser I bought years earlier). My response? ABSOLUTELY! Here I am 2 months later, skating - and loving it. There are now parks designed for skating, many within 30 minute drive of my house. So I’m no longer a nuisance out on the streets. And my attitude towards it is completely refreshed. While I can’t do most of the thing I once could, I’m also doing things I never have. But still going hard which is what I love most. Best of all. My old crew of friends have dusted their boards of too. And my 16 year old comes with us. I’m truly thankful I’ve come full circle as skateboarding was so deep in my core that without it, a part of me was missing. It’s also brought me back towards the most important friends in my life - my skate crew. A group of people who never judge and accept me absolutely for who I am - as I do them. So yeah man, do what makes you happy!! 38 is nothing my friend!!

I remember the summer of 1991 when I was 15 and starting out. I went hard and bashed myself up as I rapidly learned new things. But I didn’t care as I was young as loving it. Now I’m 48 and still learn new things, though I try and reduce the bashing up part :)

I started skating with 10 and i am still skating at the age of 37. (; During this journey i had so many ups and downs (videoparts/sponsors/travelling/injuries) but my passion never left. When i was 30 i quit skating because of an horrible wrist injury and surgery. It was a sad moment quitting something special in my life that was my identiy since i was a kid. Luckily i found mountainbiking as my substitute and completely fall in love with that sport as well. It has so many similarities to skateboarding and its the perfect compensatory sport. During corona i started skateboarding again and it was the best decision ever. First it felt weird but i got back so many tricks in the first months. My goal was documenting my progress on my youtube channel and it worked very well. I am really happy about what i am still capable of and enjoy every second on my board. Exeperience is the key! Never quit what you love!

I turn 35 next month. I've never stopped skating. It's been my rock throughout all the hard times I've had in my life. When I felt I had nothing, I still had skateboarding and that helped me through a lot. Most people who tell you to stop skating and grow up are people who have sad lives and live with too much resentment and plenty of regrets for the sad life they chose to live because they "Grew up". Funny thing is most people these days that are around my age are pretty supportive of the fact that I still skate especially when I show them a clip and they see that I can actually skate.

I’m not sure why this popped up as a KZread recommendation but I’m glad that it did because your story sounds a lot like mine. I’m 38 years old with a kid and a wife, i have a great job where I have a lot of free time but i still do very well for myself. I skate at least 5 days a week and I’m still learning new tricks all the time, I’m honestly having more fun with this now than I ever did when I was younger. Every time I think about giving this up I remind myself why I keep doing it. I love the progression, the challenge, the physical work out, the friendships and so much more but mostly I love what it does for me mentally. I feel like when I’m skating nothing else matters, I’m just laser focused on accomplishing what I set out to do that day. Of course people say the same things to me that they say to you “you should get a real hobby”, i don’t give AF about anything they say. One thing that i love about getting older is that you stop caring what people think about you, you stop trying to impress people like you used to do. It’s all about making yourself happy and taking care of the ones closest to you for me. Keep sending, keep progressing! Thanks for putting out this content, I have 24 guys over 30 in my skate chat that all feel the same way.

I’m 40, and got back into skating after more than 15 years. I was having skateboarding dreams so much it was driving me insane. Here’s what I learned. If you take care of yourself, you can really skate on.. but that means perfect diet, good sleep, and taking time to rest. The only reason people don’t later in life is because they physically can’t, and not willing to risk the injury.. it takes dedication, and I think a foundation of already knowing how to skate really helps. But it increased my focus, it’s way more fun than running, and keeps me fit. If sitting on a phalic seat with two giant wheels and a bell is more socially acceptable- have at er’. But I put it in the effort to continue the most fun thing you can do- skate at night to your favourite tunes. Nothings greater. No longer plagued by skateboarding dreams

Im not what i once was but ive surprised myself with what im still able to do. Ollieing small gaps, manuals, ledge tricks, looking to hit some stair sets! Im just careful about my trick selection, make sure theyre things my aged body can deal with. I was skating every day to begin with but realised it was too much now i skate every second day. Let the body recover and im good to go. If your smart about it theres no reason you cant skate into your 50's unless injuries fully catch up with you! Keep going you old rippers!!!!❤

It's one of the best stress relievers. I'm 34, and there are no signs of slowing down. While we have individuals who will try to change us, it's more about what one will do themselves. It's really healthy to skate when you keep on pushing to pumping on ramps. Plus, with being a parent and getting one of your kids to do it. Thetes no doubt that gives you a great bonding experience to keep on riding no matter the skill. Shred on good sir and look forward to mote of youre content.

39, 40 in May. Started learning how to skateboard in July of last year after I had once again started inlines after 14. Needed a way to do cardio. Tried a skateboard once when I was about 13; it shot out and I landed on my coccyx. Never touched a board again (which I deeply regret) because I thought I didn’t have the natural balance need to board. Realize now that I just needed to strengthen my core. I now ride the board home from work atleast a few days every week. Don’t GAF about what others think. Do what you love.

I don’t know why but when I was younger I really valued other peoples opinions above my own now I truly only care about mine. For me personally I feel like skateboarding almost fills that religious sense for me. I go to my church/temple (skatepark) I congregate with the other member and perform my rituals(skating). Part of it was I got busy and distracted by other things as well. And not always things that were good for me. The grind, life, and other vices got me not prioritizing my time to where I could skate or even wanted to… it wasn’t a thought. Only a nostalgic memory of what once was… Bonding with my kids over it and making it a family thing helped me ease back into it, and having a better work/life balance. Now, even if my kids stopped, I’d be SUPER bummed cause I enjoy doing it with them, but I myself wouldn’t stop. I skate by myself a lot and only meet people I see at the skatepark. But recently been getting more into little street spots which is fun. I keep a running list. Anyway, enjoy yourself and have fun! We have a pump track out here for bikes and skateboards and I see the BMX guys FLYING. Have fun!

Vecinos ineptos tenemos todos, la gente suele asociar el skate a algo infantil, pero al que sale de casa con su bici o juega el partido de fútbol con los amigos el fin de semana no le dicen lo mismo. I'm 38, I skated from 99-05 then 21-now. I quit because I kinda thought it was time to move on from skateboarding but a part of it never left me. What does it even mean to "grow up?" Dress like a hipster? Wear salmon shorts, a navy polo and some yacht shoes while having a $200 hairstyle and a manufactured beard? Stop doing something like skateboarding or BMX and go fishing? Or play beer league hockey? Should I talk about my 401k? My 403b? My pension? Because I promise you I don't care about anything about that or what percentage my contribution is. Stocks? Sold them because I didn't want to keep up with that. My job doesn't define me because its just my way of earning my living, it's not my life and I work 3 13 hour shifts so most of the week its the furthest thing from my mind. My point is just do what you like that makes you you and makes you happy in this short time we have here. I skate 3-4 days a week and I'm happier than ever.

I usually wear relatively straight-slim chinos or jeans, slim tee or polo, perhaps even a tucked in button-down shirt! Mix it some low-profile shoes like some of the New Balance and it's actually kinda fun to skate around looking all "age appropriate" (whatever that means). Eventually skateboarding found me again and I started rethinking why I thought skateboarding was something that kids do. Got back on board and I got interested in it again. Never let anyone tell you that your to old to do anything. I went though a spat at 41 thinking i should not be doing alot of things because i was over 40 and that 6 months of my life was misable, not being my authentic self just after i had my late in life youngest kiddo and my first grand kiddo was born a year befor. I tried even dressjng like a mum ... so not me and i have corrected the era of my ways , lol . Im 50 in april and yeah i had a few years off here and there not skating due to doing mum stuff and having wee ones but with my 2 oldest that are adults and have always loved being active and now with the kids, i remained punk AF even though im a nurse by day but loving taking my grandson and my youngest and most likely my oldest will tag along with her quads to the skate park with and my youngest with her quads and scooter and my grandson has been mental about skatebording since i gave him his first hand me down nan deck at 6. Its a family affair, weekends down at the skate park ❤ Look no one would tell you to stop riding a push bike because your 40, why is it anyones bussniess if you still skate. You will get over being 40ish preety quick and its kind of freeing to not GAF anymore because your over 40. Anytime any one says anything about this gradmother that still hits the bowl at least once week, weather permitting, i just say that im growing old disgracefully and come back and tell me what you can still do when your 50 , i can still keep up with the kids and hold my own on my deck and quads skating tranistion and street plus play roller derby and you probably will play racket ball , that sounds .....ummm.. like you gave up on life... lol. The only thing i have changed is i kit up now but i do that more for the kids. I dont want to kiss concrete and hurt myself when i have the wee tackers with me and im setting a good example for them to wear helmets as ive had my fair few concussions and broke my arm skating over the years and i cant have that happen when im being the responsible adult . Thats it , we just dont bounce as well as we get older so i try to minimize the risk of me getting seriously hurt . You do you and do anything you love as long as you can physically do it.

Thanks man! Breaking my thumb at the base, having surgery, then dislocating my toe 2 months later got me a bit bummed haha. Feeling the effects of age a bit more and it gets in my head. Balancing act!

Skateboarding has definitely impacted my life in so many ways. I have a really long story I would love to share with other skaters so they can realized that no matter how many obstacles or barriers set in your life, you can overcome them. Please comment on here if you would like me to make a video about my story. Thank you in advance guys and gals, and never give up on skateboarding!
