    My yard is populated with store bought potato, regrown, and now I have potato all year round. Every 10 lb bag of potato, there's usually 1 that isn't edible, and it's thrown in the yard. They sprout, and grow. Then I don't get all of them out of the ground, and another generation crops up. All year long, there's different potato plants in different phases of growth.

  • @johnndavis7647

    @johnndavis7647

    Жыл бұрын

    @@elikmr5978 it depends on the variety of potatoes. Small red and gold can be harvested in as little as 70 days Big brown potatoes take 110 days or so. When the leaves start to turn yellow is time to harvest Depending on how deep you plant the seed potato You can get sprouts In 10 days or 20. I plant the seed potato on three inches of moist soil in a bucket or bin with about four inches of soil over it. The seed potato has everything it needs to grow so I don't feed or water it until I see greenery breaking the surface. Then I mix up some potting soil with Black Kow or other balanced fertilzer and fill the bucket or bin to the top. Then I water once a week if no rain.

    I've been searching for a method of growing my own potatoes for the size of my yard that I have. Which is not much. So I love the fabric pot idea. Love it a lot actually. I would of never thought to put a little hay over them either. Great idea!! I have a few questions bc I want to start this method this year here in East Tennessee. First what brand name are those fabric pots(reason for asking is there seems to be some w more aeration than others) and 2nd question what is the name of that soil you're using from the bag? 3rd do you have the bags sitting on the ground or sitting on top of something. Thank you very much for taking time to share your hard growing work w us.

    I had a potato 🥔 sprouting and I just tossed it in a pot and it got rained on and it started rooting. It grew so fast. I had to Harry up and get a fabric pot fast. 😂. The leaves got so big. I hope it goes well.

    Very helpful! Thanks. I want to use the fabric pots as well and want to not pay $16 for slip potatoes!

    It is also important to take off a big chunk of potato under the eyes because you don't want to eat solanine . The rest of the potato that doesn't have a green tinge can be peeled cooked and eaten.

    No need to cut the potato...just throw any sprouting potatoes in the garden. Done. I usually miss a few potatoes when I harvest, and they grow. Potatoes can be zero work if you let them.

    I was thinking about growing potatoes but others said I couldn't from grocery ones cause they wouldn't sprout and I'd have to buy seed potatoes which I've not found anywhere. I got my potatoes at Walmart. Look for the ones that already have a little spot coming out of the eye. They grew fine and I am beginning to harvest them. They were very off season, and I covered them to protect them from the frost. As the plant withers and it's time to get the potatoes a new fresh shoot is coming out. Will this sprout continue to develop the potatoes from the first plant as it is a clone, or will it develop its own potatoes? Will the original potatoes rot if I leave them there till later?

    I know your comments from 2 years a go but this is why people said this. Many foods from the stores such as apples, watermelons, and oranges won't grow. This is because certain fruits and vegetables from the store are special hybrids engineered to mass produce only in specific conditions (could me Mexico Argentina, etc) So some food may not grow well due to this. Some are also engineered not to grow more than 1 cycle so no to have overgrowth in mass production. Hometown farmers and farmers markets will usually have seeds that grow continuously and well. Look up perennial vegetable seeds, fruits, flowers, to find seeds online that return for more than 2 years! I hope I helped!

    @@queen_xcx You certainly did I know about GMO's but wasn't sure when I get fresh vegetables and the blueberries are bigger than I ever seen tastes really good and some of my Bell peppers last for week's then I wonder besides growing my own how do I tell? That's really good in helping me Thank you Much Love 😇💜🙏I just got a blueberry bush I'm excited it came from the Mennonite's so I feel safe about my own now if I can keep it alive the geoengineering is killing our fruits here too

    @Calcat737 happy to hear about your produce doing so well! I hope your blueberrys go well too! And no problem! I'm happy to see you've learned about the geoengeneering so you're not confused why some seeds won't grow! It sucks yes, but thankfully there's still ways around it!
