I absolutely love MI Gardener's Emerald Giant peppers. Very large green peppers and mine were prolific. I will always grow them. Great germination. I would love to grow everything. Zuchinni can be grow in a grow bag or ten gallon pot, and grown vertically in a tomato cage. You essentially just keep the leaves trimmed which makes the fruit easy to harvest and you have funny zuchinni trees.

I imagine you can also see pest sooner if you had any and wanted to pick them off and squish them.

I’ve never soaked my pepper seeds. 🤷‍♀️ They’ve always all germinated.

Saving seed from your own grown plants also gives you a plant that is better acclimated to your own garden conditions. Always good!

I'm growing cucumbers and zucchini in a 5 gallon bucket, up a trellis. Saves room so I can plant more of other things. I'm running out of room and it's barely spring in the south.

I'm a bit older than you and I don't know everything about gardening and seed starting but I do know that covering the seeds with perlite instead of soil prevents damping off and it's also easier for the seeds to sprout through. I start my seeds like you do except I make the hole,drop in the seeds and cover the top of each cell with perlite and use a spray bottle to wet down the perlite and seeds in the already moist soil. I've had exceptionally good germination doing it this way. This past October I sowed some four to five yr old onion seeds and to my surprise about 80% off them germinated. I didn't need them because I already had around 200 seeds sown and coming up but I was curious to see if they were still good after all that time, so I gave lots of them away. Those are early bulbing short day onions called Plathora and the few I kept already have golf ball size bulbs that we are pulling and using as we need them as they aren't good storage onions. I'm definitely not trying to offend, just sharing a tip given to me and I find it works best for me.

We grew Zuchini in our Greenstalk last year we used Rene’s Garden "Zucchini Astia” they were a good size.

I’m so excited, I have tomato plants about a foot tall in our 6x8 greenhouse, more plants also. I also have green bean seeds my great grandparents grew.

I’m late getting seeds started too. I was getting disappointed but my thinking is better late than never, eh! 😊 We’ll never have a harvest if we don’t plant the seeds but even late we will at least get something! I hope we both have a blessed gardening season and harvest.

When you were talking about the huge basil plants of your daughter-in-law, it came to mind that some people use grass clippings to make weed tea (put weeds in water for weeks, take out the solids, and use the liquid to make fertilizer for green growth), i'm sure that's what unintentionally happened. About the hot cute little orange peppers, they might be habaneros or jamaican scotch bonnets. Loved watching your jars with sweet potatoes.

Tender perennials that can be overwintered inside most places

I'm growing so much this year. I've been in the garden all winter even doing what I can here and there and I'm in WI. I just put peas in today, I'm going to go back out and do some beets and carrots in a bit. My peppers are a foot tall already, I started them way too early.

Everything is looking good!

I save empty seed packets in their own box to remind me what i need to reorder.

Our parents had us add a book of matches at the root level. We would grow large pepper plants. Dad had us add match books at root level. Also make sure leaves touch from plant to plant.

Wish I was starting seeds with you! My last frost date was 3 weeks ago, but will have to rewatch next year with these tips!

If you're wanting to save seeds, you don't necessarily have to separate the varieites by large distances. For tomatoes and peppers (because they are self-pollinating), it's very easy to use a lil' organza bag (like the ones for wedding favors/jewelry/removable bra straps) to isolate the blossoms before they open. Then, when the fruit from the isolated blossom forms, you just have to mark it (I use colorful string) and let it fully mature before you pick it. That way, you know the seeds from that fruit were only pollinated by their own genes.

@marcidevries5515 Ooooh! Good to know. I have lots of friends who save theirs for me. But I've also ordered a big bag of them online before. Unfortunately, they only last a season or two out in the hot summer sun.

Have you tried growing a compact variety of zucchini in the GreenStalk? Botanical Interests “Emerald Delight’ worked pretty well. We used the plant supports and/or the plant tag stakes to help keep them upright. I bought a few of the really small varieties “cue ball” from Hoss Tools to try out but I don’t remember if the plants themselves stay smaller or just the fruit. Emerald Delight grows smaller vines but regular sized fruit.

Were the hot little orange peppers Datil Peppers? I grew them for the first time last year. They were too hot for me too, but I actually made some hot sauce with them and it kinda mellowed them and you could taste the fruity notes in them. I thought of growing some to boil and put into vinegar to spray my fence and around the garden to deter the chipmunks and squirrels this year.

I haven’t done it yet, but I think it would be a good idea to vacuum seal seeds and keep them frozen, in a freezer that isn’t frost free. It seems like that would keep them viable longer than another way of storing them. Your seedlings all look so great! Good job!

Yes! My experience too.

I also struggle with zucchini in the greenstalk; that and bush beans which I know a lot of people have great success in! Not sure what I'm doing wrong. 19:45 Habaneros!

Instead of using the greens talk to.plant zucchini, get a nice pot, so it has more room to grow. That could sit on the deck.

Purple Beauty peppers are my favorite. So flavorfull. We chopped and froze our peppers last year and they kept the flavor.

I successfully grew zucchini in a big pot last year.. the green stock may be too small.. I think they have a pretty big root.. and they are heavy feeders too

Im trying to grow jalapeño and Serrano for making rotel...poblano for anchos for molé and enchilada sauce...banana peppers for purple hull peas...a few others i need for enchilada sauce...more than 10 different kinds of basil...probably 20 varieties of tomatoes...yes, my garden is small...no, i don't have the space to plant them...lol! Oh, and several herbs that we use but haven't grown before. Im trying cumin, and stevia, that I can remember. If something fails, maybe ill get enough successes to fill my garden 😂

AH yes, "Magic Dust" I usually call it. I typically use that when I up-pot them into bigger containers. I have a fresh bag ready for this season.

Could be sun or wind burn. Start in shade protected from wind, then slowly introduce them over a week or two
