Growing up hunting grouse in the northern LP in thick swamp and aspen, it amazes me that a relative of the ruff grouse would live in such seemingly open lands. Definitely a much needed trip someday, or even for upland birds in the plains.

My first sage grouse hunt was when I was new to hunting at all and all I had was a 35 pound re-curve take down bow that my brother and I learned to shoot. Well, I might add. I had a couple of arrows with blunt points (dum-dum) on them. I figured on hitting one on the ground since in school we had approached these during class and I figured I could get a shot. My hunting companion later said I looked impressive. He was kind enough to gift me one of the birds he had shot with a shotgun. I immediately entered the market for a shotgun.

Sage grouse are active in the early morning and evening, and like to lay under brush in the hot mid-day. When frying sage grouse, you don't wanna cook them for too long or else it will be tough meat 👍🏽

I dig the hunts you go on. From the high price hunts that most of us can't afford, to the small time public land hunts many go on. New to hunting and share your stuff with my son. He play D2 football, while studying to be a veterinarian. He's super 2a, loves animals, believes in providing for your family over trophies, and wants to one day be able to afford to support conservation groups, as well as buy land to start up an area himself. Thanks for helping raise a good young man, and best of luck with future content as well as life, and hunts.

After hunting in the Northwest many years and covering many miles in the desert and hunting sage grouse along with following the politics connect to to it, my opinion is the decline of the sage grouse is over grazing with cattle. I'm all for balanced grazing, but not overgrazing.

Cracks 😂 me up listening to Ronny grossed out and getting the hebejebeez from the jackrabbit and it's fleas 😅. Steve is just not phased, lol but brings up an interesting point though. I the days of pasteurized milk, filtered water and hand sanitizer, are we just doing ourselves more harm than good? When our ancestors were like Steve but 10 fold they rolled around in the slop and had dinner without washing their hands you gotta think their immune system was robust. That being said their life expectancy wasn't what it is now. What are your thoughts Steve are we losing our ruggedness? 🤔

  • @jessicah7247

Life expectancy was pretty high, we washed our hands in clean rivers, and washed our hair with soaps made from ash and fat. You can check lots of very, very old books. Most men, if they didn't die in war or as an infant, lived to 60-70! Even the Bible talks about this. Psalm 90:10 I definitely think we were tougher, but we still had a sense of cleanliness.
