    Why does my ship not display vectors when using relative vectors in ground stabilization mode?

  • @angelost9784

    the question is, if u are both close to land and also u have traffic and collision avoidance is required, what is your set up regarding the stabilization and vector? nice content btw!

  • @SailorVikas

    @SailorVikas

    3 жыл бұрын

    Even if you put ground stabilized mode, ARPA always gets feed of STW and not SOG. So CPA and TCPA won't change by changing stabilization of radar. In ground stabilization mode, ground vector is displayed to let you to know where is ship moving, however calculations by ARPA won't change because ARPA always gets the feed of STW ( Which doesn't get affected by current )

    @@matrosnya7790 huge error !!! U won't use such an equipment If it has huge error where STW is showing 5 kts and SOG is showing 15kts unless u have strong currents , for the above problems you have to use SOG for approaching critical waters and for collision avoidance you have option to input STW manually in Radar/arpa ☺️

  • @SailorVikas

    @SailorVikas

    What result you mean exactly ? Ground stabilized will help u show ground vector of ur vessel. Relative vector is of target vsls not ur ship.

    Ok if its mandatory to use STW on ARPA, what about wind, current difference between targets, error in speed log? Then arpa not reliable?

  • @SailorVikas

    @SailorVikas

    3 жыл бұрын

    Stw is to be used for collision avoidance. It's not mandatory , how ever it's the good practice to use so and during port approches or approaching anchorage we use SOG as ground vector takes consideration of Wind,current and lets us know where is ship dragging, also if their is error in speed log/speed log is inoperative than also we use SOG till the time equipment is rectified.

  • @matrosnya7790

    @matrosnya7790

    3 жыл бұрын

    Im glad that you replied, thank you. And why is it so important to use STW? Can you give a one solid example from real life? There is a COLREG which explains the rules to avoid collision situations and as far as ARPA calculating same CPA and TCPA and all the rest regardless of speed input (as basically it uses range and bearing calculations) so why would you use relative speed log instead of absolute?

  • @SailorVikas

    @SailorVikas

    3 жыл бұрын

    In simple words, relative speed is used to obtain relative vectors...in head-on situation When their is current and you use ground vectors, in radar it appears to be a crossing situation which is not true and if u use STW , that is relative vectors, than It will not appear as a crossing situation thus STW is used ☺️

    Relative vector is ideal at sea ( assuming radar set at sea stabilised)....if relative vector of other ships point towards you than its risk of collision with cpa 0 and if the vector pass head of you than it means ship is bow crossing and if vector pass behind you than other ship is passing astern of you,...for port approaches and coastal sailing....true vector is ideal to know the drift of ship , wheather it's towards land or not ( assuming radar is set on ground stabilied), if you have any doubts regarding vector see my videos of ground and sea stabilsation and radar videos, everything will be cleared ...just listen carefully of what I say in video.
