Groudle Glen Railway (July 2019)

Scenes from the 'line that goes uphill to the sea', alias the Groudle Glen Railway, filmed in July 2019 during the Manx Transport Festival Week.
2019 saw the introduction of not one, but two additions to the steam fleet. The first was a small 0-4-0 blue saddle Bagnall tank named Otter, build by the North Bay Railway works in East Yorkshire.
The second newest engine making its debut during the festival, was Brown Bear; the replica 2-4-0 Bagnall. With the likelihood of Sea Lion's sister engine Polar Bear not returning to the island anytime soon, a replacement was needed. After six years of fundraising and construction, Brown Bear (after much testing and mileage accumulation) was ready for public service.
And not forgetting of course, the veteran engine Sea Lion. She was back in service on the railway, following a period of overhaul.
The following video was shot on a gloriously sunny Wednesday 24th July, and a wet and windy Sunday 28th July 2019. Other locos featured include the battery powered Polar Bear, and the 'Hi-De-Hi' engine herself, Maltby.

Many thanks for another interesting video. Just a small point - Sea Lion's sister engine is actually "Polar Bear", currently at Amberley Chalk Pits Museum in Sussex. The new "Brown Bear" is, I believe, an exact replica of that "Polar Bear", but has been given a different name and livery to differentiate it from that original steam "Polar Bear", which has visited the Groudle Glen at least once in recent years. There have been two other locos called "Polar Bear" connected with Groudle Glen. The first was a battery electric loco which arrived in 1921, when the steam "Polar Bear" was stored in an inoperable condition . That first battery electric "Polar Bear" was withdrawn in 1927 and scrapped. Then there is the current battery electric at Groudle Glen, which is a 2003 replica of that former 1921 loco. There may be inaccuracies in my comment, which I would be glad if anyone could correct.
