    You have the right idea, if the dog is shedding clumps of hair try blow drying before and after the bath. If you do you'll cut your brushing time in half. You were very easy and patient with this dog and he looks beautiful when done, people who haven't groomed before don't understand how hard it really is.

    Beautiful work, nice to see them being lightly trimmed and shaped, NOT shaved! Brushing a few times a week will also help keep shedding down, of course, use an undercoat rake like the paws pamper undercoat rake works best. Use a slicker brush for the topcoat though. So cute!

    Brushing was a little bit rough for my taste. I have a 160lb Great Pyrenees and let me tell you, these dogs are stubborn and they will push you around. You need to be firm with them, otherwise it will take 7 plus hours to properly groom the dog. The way he was pushing him and moving him was necessary, although I do wish he would have brushed the dog more gently and shown more love to the dog. Either way the dog turned out beautiful and did not seem too distraught.

    My GP LOVES the brushing. Their hair is so thick I don’t think I can get to rough with her. She will lay there hours then roll over for her tummy then over to the other side. And I’m brushing her hard.

    is not hurting him, the loose hair will come off really easy. and he is not impatient he is trying to do it fast, because you cant have the dog there for hours and wait until he decides to stand up or be still, you have to guide the dog. Most dogs dont like grooming, they all look awkward and uncomfortable.

    Bringing one of these gentle giants home in a few weeks. The breeder told me I'd be looking at 30 minute brushings everyday to maintain him, then a few hours when he sheds the winter coat. My dogs always enjoyed brushing, though they always rolled over to make it difficult, and they were Golden Retrievers; the one was really stubborn. This will be my first Pyr, so I'll see if I can get him to enjoy it as well. The breeder told me he's more a people dog than the animals on his farm, an unusual and underrated trait for the breed. Personally I love it, his only job in life with me is to have fun and guard me and the house.

    I've owned three Pyrs. Their great beauty is their awesome coat and great size. While the groomer has prettified the coat, he's taken away the magnificence the coat has when properly groomed, yet left long. Even so, this is far better than those who get their Pyrs shaved down - he's not a Lab, so don't try to make him look like one! Yes, they are hair machines! Just when you think you've gotten all of the undercoat and loose hair - 2-3 days later - hair all over. What I do is use a cutter to de-tangle, a rake to pull out the bulk of loose hair, and then a slicker to smooth down. So, I am able to keep the hair very long, but groomed. And every few days, brush with the slicker brush. My dog is an inside fellow, but I take him for long runs outside. While inside, I confine him to a very long room, and he also can come in the great room if he lays down in one spot. This helps me to contain the hair. Also, having a pet hair appropriate vacuum and using it every day to every other day, keeps the house looking neat - you won't see dog hair around my house. But it takes vigilance in grooming and vacuuming to have an indoor Pyr. I've probably met more people walking these incredible dogs - people literally do u-turns and drive up and always ask

This is what I did with my husky but haven't found specific info on doing so with my GP. @LeeLee-eg7wm

    American Kennel Club recommends NOT shaving/removing the undercoat. I hate rakes, and only use a pin brush on my Great Pyr. I'd never, ever use groomers that yanked on the rake that way. The hair is attached to skin. Do you want YOUR hair yanked like that? FFS.

  • @119Agent

    @119Agent

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@LeeLee-eg7wm The dog is blowing his undercoat, he is shaving or removing hair that has already "detached" from the follicle. Only the blown fur is being removed with this method. If you don't do that the matted hair will retain heat and the coarse layer on top won't do its job of reflecting heat and allowing air circulation against the dog's body.

  • @cambryn
    @cambryn7 жыл бұрын

    Oh Lords. Too many commenters are being silly. The guy is obviously doing a FINE job of grooming the dog. He's going fast- but isn't be harsh on the dog. The Great Pyr is trying to lean on him because he's a big boy lazy breed (you can see that when his head sort of turns around.) If the groomer went slower and 'gentler' he wouldn't be done for 8 hours, and wouldn't be able to penetrate the coat deep enough to get to the undercoat. Pyrs have like 2-3 inches of dense fur, and you gotta really go for it to brush out their coat and prevent matting, and do it efficiently. The only thing I would consider doing differently is reconsider the shaving, but that's a personal choice.

    Hill m I agree. I have a great Pyrenees and I learned that it's a huge mistake to do any shaving to her coat! This guy was just doing little touch ups with the clippers but I still wouldn't even use any, personally. Using the hose to blow the air at the pyrs fur to get better access to the undercoat was brilliant. I never even thought of that.
