Grocery shopping in Juneau Alaska- Safeway

Ойын-сауық

Just a quick and simple shopping trip to the Safeway in Juneau Alaska. I’m really interested in how the prices compare to other parts of the world, so let me know in the comments! Thanks for watching and stay tuned for more videos this summer!

I live in Southern California. I shop at Walmart as much as I can because that’s where groceries are the cheapest. A loaf of bread and a gallon of milk will be like $2.30 and $4 at Walmart then at others stores it’ll be like $4.50 and $7. Some stores are cheaper than others, but Walmart has the best grocery prices in SoCal. How much is gas in Juneau? Gas is super expensive here in California. Most gas stations it’s at least $6 a gallon. In some cities it’s even $7 or $8 a gallon. I go to Costco where gas is a little cheaper. I pay $5.35 a gallon. That’s still pretty expensive though. I recently filled up half my tank for $40

California has always been so expensive! Alaska is too though, friend said juneau has gas from $3.98 to $4.80. That’s pretty good and actually surprised me! There was a Walmart in Juneau for a while but it closed. I’m not really sure how Walmart failed though🤷🏻‍♂️ Up north I shop at both target and Walmart, both have best prices. Thanks for the comment! I really appreciate it!

Nice video. That's about the same food cost as Seattle. The only one that was surprising to me was the califlower which is about half that in Seattle. My guess was about $200 for the cart! :-)

Right on! Thanks for the info! I love visiting Seattle, pretty much 100% of the time, if you are leaving Alaska for anywhere, you have to go through Seattle. Yep, produce is EXPENSIVE up here😵‍💫 you are pretty much right on the money, $190.

The three bags of tortillas was ridiculous. Three bags of tortillas in Houston will cost you about 3 bucks Oddly enough the rest wasn't that far off. I don't eat wheat bread but it's generally 3-4 per bag here. I don't eat yogurt so I have no idea what it costs There's a few items in Alaska that are cheaper than they are in Houston All in all it's pretty equivalent We can buy that same exact bag of peanuts for a 1.25 stir fry is actually cheaper there Doritos are also cheaper there I think a lot of it has to do with distribution centers Peanuts have to be trucked in from the east coast in order to get to Alaska There's free to lay manufacturing plants all the way up into Washington State, so it's not a long travel to get to Alaska I wish you would put out more videos so you've been pretty quiet for a while

@jeffhemmen9088 I am remote, I keep things frozen by putting a bunch of water bottles in the bottom of the freezer. They stay frozen and keep everything else frozen. Fuel is very expensive! @@AlaskaPirates yeah we were thinking of getting something semi off grid, but not remote. I want to be as far out as humanly possible but still have electricity.. I'm not that adventurous and I think you would be easier for somebody that's actually from Alaska to do your set-up. I don't mind not having running water but the electricity was a bridge too far. I've lived the vast majority of my life in Houston, Chicago and Phoenix. All three of those cities have a population three times that of the entire state of Alaska, so amenities are plentiful.. I don't think there's any way I could live like that. So whatever we decide to get is definitely going to need to have electricity That must be south Alaska. I think the South and Southeast is the only place you would find trout up there, isn't it. I'm semi-retired so that's a huge selling point. I was not aware they had trout.
