Grocery haul for one

Grocery haul for one in New York City, my local Williamsburg Brooklyn Foodtown to be exact. Can you go grocery shopping in NYC on a budget for $30 or less per week, so $4 per day and get cheap but healthy food including veggies and meat options? A few of my favorite meal or dinner or recipe ideas:
- Tofu: Tofu scrambled, stir fry, tofu tacos, lettuce wraps
- Chicken: Lemon garlic chicken, honey baked, Thai coconut chicken curry
- Eggs: Shakshuka, breakfast tacos, quiche, udon soup, pasta carbonara
- Tortillas: Breakfast burritos, pinwheels, quesadillas, tortilla lasagna, pizza
- Beans: Stuffed peppers, salad, taco pasta, veggie burgers, southwestern pizza
- Lentils: Lentil fritters, shepherd's pie, lentil meatballs, bolognese, soup
- Broccoli: Broccoli caesar, bolognese, quiche, ricotta bruschetta with hot honey,
- Arugula: Arugula pizza, watermelon feta salad, bacon-arugula-tomato, pitas, pesto
- Watermelon: watermelon feta salad, ice cream, salsa, balsamic chicken salad, margarita poptails

    Check closely if a sticker says 5 for 10 , often the item is on sale for 2 , the store is just trying to entice you ! But sometimes it's the only way to save.

    @@Jenniferobrien I can even give you a tip. Do not bother when you see on any package expiration date and maybe in some stores, they reduce the price because the date is close to expiring. You can buy them and all will be fine. That expiration date very often is put so that people will always buy fresh and pay more. I experienced many products are good even the date of use expired. The prof is that I am still here. So, save even more money. Be well Jenn.

    @@Jenniferobrien As a treat, usually after being out among the masked masses, I've been popping an 'artisan' (extra good ) marshmallow, fruit & liquor flavour, into a mug of coffee. After it dissolves the drink is Reeeally delicious! Just a foodie contribution...

    the first precut watermelon doesnt have the rind and outer layer. the 2nd and 3rd has it.

    Good buy on chicken. See what day the grocer marks down chicken nearing expiration (Sunday afternoon for mine) . Buy and freeze til you need it.

    Wow, the groceries you bought are cheaper in the states than in the netherlands. Where I live the drumsticks alone would be €3-4. Great video, Jennifer. Will have to look for a more affordable store outside of where I live.

    House brand eggs must be cheaper than Land o Lakes,no,yes? What about buying a small whole watermelon 🍉? I didn’t know if you got my last question on your last video about a quick video on how you cook your tofu..I’d like to start using it. Thanks Jen..love your videos.G

    Yes usually house brand but not this time, they were all $2.49+ and yes I would buy a whole watermelon but I can never get through that much just 1 person! Oh I don't do anything fancy with my tofu, but a lot of tofu grilled on the stove with soy sauce and broccoli or veggies like a stir fry - that's my go to, I do need to experiment with more tofu recipes!

    Jennifer O'Brien - Thanks Jen for the tips on Tofu. I guess you right on the bigger watermelon being much. Yes you did the right than with the Land o Lakes eggs. I’m a sale hound, I love a good Bergen. I have a recipe for banana, chocolate chip oatmeal cookie to die for. Takes no time to make, uses two older bananas and the best part there only 50 cal. each..     Jennifer, I wish I was more health conscious like you when it comes to choosing the foods I eat. Unfortunately my shopping basket gets filled with bacon and ice cream and sodas and...well, if it's unhealthy, it's in there. Of course, I still maintain my manly physique. Oh wait, I haven't seen that for over 20 years.

    3:04 you need to sign up for the "club card price" you don't use such cards? the cashier should have asked you for their card to get the discount.
