GRIZZLY BEAR ENCOUNTER IN GLACIER

Фильм және анимация

If you enjoy this video check out my instagram @ben_utah for stills from this trip and more travel photography!
Strap in tight for this one. During part 1 of Ben and I's day in Glacier we ran into a grizzly bear in the clouds at Logan Pass. Glacier was peaceful, beautiful, compelling, and terrifying all in one. It's truly a special place and I can only hope that a fraction of that comes across in this video. Tune in for Part 2 of Glacier next week!

Love Glacier and part of the appeal is that it is true wilderness. Be cautious, carry bear spray, keep your camp clean, follow precautions and understand that you are part of the food chain. It is a risk you accept when hiking or camping in bear country.

It truly is such a wonderful place where nature is at its most raw. I think being part of the natural way of things is what makes it incredible.

He got into an argument with an airline employee and instead of flying out returned back to the Grizzly maze very late in the season ( sealing the fate if him and his GF) after all of the bears he liked and were familiar with him had entered hibernation . He was killed by a mean old bear that he wasn’t very familiar with and who he didn’t like anyway.

Why do people hear the word PARK and think of central park? 1000-pound Grizzley at 40 miles an hour (charge) and they can get to their spray tucked on their belt. If you are worried a bear attack, go with big group and proper protection. Grizzle's can climb it if you can.

I went there in 92 when I was 13. I remember a beautiful lake that was situated in the bowl of 3 peaks. In the clouds .amazing. I was fairly on edge about bears the whole time, saw one across the lake, big deal huh? The chubby marmots were adorable and everywhere, neat little creatures.

Glacier is certainly one of the most incredible places I've ever been! Theres something about bears that inspires fear even at a distance, it's like an innate existential threat. I agree about the marmots, they make such curious noises too.

Just returned home to Utah from Glacier. I grew up spending my summers in Glacier and the Canadian Rockies. A part of my heart will always be there. Thinking about making a move. My Canadian relatives always say to take someone who is a slower runner with you. :) I have to say I do feel a bit bad for that bear as he is just trying to enjoy his natural habitat and now he has people screaming at him. Glad no one was hurt.

I remember getting pretty creative in Glacier, with my yells to show I was a human. "Yo Bear", "Human coming" Supposedly Grizzlies there will avoid humans unless they're really hungry or protecting cubs. This bear didn't get the message, I guess. In the 1990s they sold T-shirts in the gift shops that read Grizzlies 7, Tourists 0. I think the score has gone higher since then.

I've had the pleasure of being there Dozens of times. Truly it is my favorite. By God's, goodness living in Wyoming I'm less than 160 miles from Yellowstone National Park, and it can truly be a one day excursion in/out, and back home the same day. Thanks FRMCs. Went to Glacier once about 10 years ago. Was so nervous whenever we were hiking on a trail away from the roads. Ran into a large deer at one point, which at first in the distance I thought was a grizzly walking down the trail to us.. Was grateful it was a deer. Beautiful country though, and I'll stick with the roads and visitors centers next time :-)

TOO MANY PEOPLE!!! I lived in Whitefish for 35 years, hiked a couple thousand miles in Glacier, summited park peaks over 100 times. up until 2010 the visitation was manageable, then the influx of 'idiots' took over. rude, arrogant, in-your-face, know-it-alls, with little back country knowledge and zero trail etiquette were everywhere. you could not get away from them. used to be able to get on the trails at sunrise and avoid them - then they figured that out. used have off trail hidden little places, but rangers took them away (reluctantly - we were friends) so others wouldn't use them (i understand). it was sad to watch. finally i decided i couldn't take it any more. the people ruined it. i no longer could enjoy that which i spent decades experiencing alone or with few others. TOO MANY PEOPLE. any way too many of them just pure a-holes.......then ECUADOR beckoned, and i love it here. the people are nice. way nice. so much nicer than the Glacier gang of thugs and malcontents. i have memories and pictures of Glacier, but still working on getting the sour taste of a-holes out of my system.........

lol A grizzly won't attack if theres a group of 3 or more hikers, let alone 50 idiots yelling.. Might as well shut up and take some nice footage. The bears that frequent Logan Pass area are very familiar with people and simply tolerate our presence as they run right by you chasing mountain goats.
