@@2yoosooh thanks fam! Yeah the Rossums seems to be a decent kit, let's see maybe I can get one in future to have a backup to my 1200. I have some ideas for new stuff in 2024, hope to release some music and new videos as well! Frohe Weihnachten aus Berlin!

I do same methods with my 2000 xl except i find a nice drum loop and than add solo kick snare and hat to the loop and blend it together like you did with paralel compression. You get some fat drums that way...

Thank you for this informative video. I have a question, how can I use RX950, which is the Akai S950 plug-in, in this workflow? After all this is done, should I add RX950 to the drum bus? Or should I put it in the master channel where the samples and drums are together? Or how can this take place in the drum mix you described? I would be very happy if you answer :) It would be great if you could make a video showing how you process samples and basses such as drums.

Yo whats up? Regarding your question, it really depends on what you want to achieve. There are multiple ways of using a SP1200/S950 Combo, one way is to sample everything into the 1200 and resample some chops into the S950, one reason for this would be to 'stretch' ram = sampletime the other one is of course the splendid lowpass filter. This is the way how I approached a lot of beats, thus the Drums and FX chops remain in the 1200, all chops of the main Sample were put into the S950 (as well as other chops were more complex looping was needed). The other way is to strictly separate the inital sampling, this can be heard in a lot of late 90s productions when producers were aiming for a more polished/clean sound. Thus, the Drums and maybe the Bass were sampled into the 1200 and all melodic stuff like the main sample was directly sampled into the 950 with high bandwidth to overcome the crunch/artifacts the 1200 is producing. Coming back to your question where to put the effects: There is no Plugin you can add to a drum or masterbus to replicate the vintage sound, because this is not how the sound is produced with the machines. Whatever RX950/RX1200/SP-like VST you have I would always recommend to add it to the single tracks (Kick, Snare, Hats, Sample, Bass, ...). In the machine every sound has its own circuit, filtering, drive etc. - I try to highlight this in the my first video of the GRID THEORY series, may you like to check that out! Peace!

Yo Danke, überlege schon um was es in Teil 3 gehen soll. Mein mixing prozess hat sich auch nochmal start verändert. Das Mischpult ist ein RAMSA WR-S4416, das ist mittlerweile verkauft weil ich auf ein Soundcraft Delta umgestiegen bin. Grüße aus Berlin!

was mit samples wäre cool, filtern, choppen arrangieren oder so... die Delta Serie ist cool, guter klang und super zum tracken geeignet, da die Tape outs post eq/fader können.@@lordlowpass

@@dennisforster4082 Okay, ich denk mal drüber nach. Ich hatte dran gedacht ein video über drumloops zu machen, wie man drums choppen und arrangieren kann. Ja mein Delta muss leider noch ein bisschen gerecaapt werden, aber für mich waren die Hauptgründe für den wechseln: 1. 4 Band EQ, 2. der HighPass Filter pro Kanal. 3. die stereo kanäle und 4. das modulare design. Der Sound vom Delta ist für mich kalt und punchy, das Ramsa war sehr schön musikalisch und etwas 'wärmer' auch die amps konnte man schöner heiß fahren.

Sorry if the wording CHANNEL is confusing, with CHAIN/CHANNEL I mean that every INDIVIDUAL drum element is running through the same set of effects to a the same subtle sound that generates the cohesive sound. I imagine it as a virtual console CHANNEL consisting of a chain of EQs. Thanks for the feedback, I really like the if break and its a classic for sure, but for the mixing and tuning I would do a lot of stuff different now. I am thinking about doing another drums mixing tutorial. The saturation in my case is coming from the neve channelstrip (its subtle), transient shaping is something I rarely do for classic boom bap sound I rather use it when I work on more modern sounding trap productions and the parrallel processing is part of the video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/iJ-hzLyLfZqddpM.htmlsi=hmRw5cPuLClMKtsj&t=2026 here I put on parallel compression for the whole drum bus. Currently I am experimenting a lot with clipping, its very nice for a fat snare sound. Worth checking out the freeClip from Venn Audio (as the name says its free). Cheers!

So far I did not consider uploading it somewhere, but I could arrange the demo and upload it to soundcloud. Also planning to upload some of the soundcloud tracks freshly mixed to all the streaming platforms, maybe the beat could fit in the compilation as well.

I noticed after you've finished truncating all of your samples when asked do you want to save you hit no. You should select yes so the sp 1200 will erase all truncated audio outside of the start and end points. I don't think you're properly saving sample time after truncating each sample.

Also, right before the music ends that is sampled is a kick drum which is open by itself and in my opinion is a better choice than using the kick that lands right before the snare you've selected.

​@@Dr_Fangaz334 Yo whats good? I commit my chops permanently to save sampling time, you can see it here at 08:13. But, I am not doing it right after the initial chopping, because I like to play with the swing and the sequence first to see if I need to make the chops more tight, or if I need to leave more air, thats why I am not making the chops permanent right away. Yes you are right, the open Kick in the end is also quite nice. For the selection it really depends what type of sound/flavour you are looking for (if you want to have a more smooth or punchy kick, a lounder or a quiter one and so on). Peace!
