We have a couple of Gripen here in South Africa, I’ve seen two air shows with them. Absolutely awesome!!! Their sound and speed are incredulous, nearly wet my pants.

Exactly. When the person making the film keeps using the nasty zoom all the time, we the watchers cannot have a visual reading of the length of turns etc. Bad filming that is.

It wasnt on purpose :) the fuel vent out due to the excessive pressure on the fuel system due to the negative Gs. I went out through the fuel vent outlet and ignited by the afterburner. It's a nice side effect.

@@TheSithTeacher Hard to see with the zoom in but I don't think there was that much negative G.. I'd imagine it wouldn't be enough to cause the pressure relief valve to open. But I can't really think of any other reason why would there be such flame when the engine is already hot...

That Gripen E sounds a lot more angry than any Gripen I have seen flying. Good upgrade.

The more I see this fighter the more it grows on me. I can see a bit of the Draken in it and I love it for that.

Saab JAS Gripen. Swedish High Tech for sure. What else.

Yeah, Dutchy here aswell. With all the money the government has dumped in the F35 program already we would have had a nice fleet of very capable Gripen's close to the country that makes them... Instead of the overpriced American plane.

Watching the F-35 in Australia was like watching a Train go by then wait 10 minutes for it to come the other way No fancy manoeuvres or spins

Last year there was one (1) aerobatics qualified F-35 pilot and perhaps a spare pilot in the world. He/she is probably very busy in the airshow season.

That's one helluva first airshow appearance number. Shows some real confidence. First appearances are usually some boring flyby.

In heavily woodland countries a Gripens would be a great choice, I've seen vids of them landing on hiway during training vids, A-10's Gripens, f-16's the similiar Ilk are great choices.

Landing on short bases is probably the least useful feature of the Gripen (any version) for the average air force in the world since very few has adapted the Swedish and Finish 'protection by dispersal' tactics. Still, it's a very valid tactics for my Sweden and my neighbour Finland and probably for a lot more countries close to or already harrassed by far larger military powers like (mostly powers like China and Russia). What most aerotech youtubers does not bring up to light is that Sweden is probably the no 1 in the world when it comes to electronic warfare. Gripen E is fully loaded with this electronic warfare. Being small is not always a drawback, sometimes it's the whole concept of it is being able to hide from enemy radars is the key to win or lose the fight.

@@valko022 The Typhoon and Rafale can do more or less what the Gripen C but they lack the advanced data link (that has been proven very effective in modern combat). So Gripen C has been able to keep up with the Typhoon and Rafale allthough it lacks the engine power of the two larger fighters. The F35 is stealthy and has a huge advantage from that. The F35 is also very good at data link, on par with Gripen C in fact. The F35 has some really bad disadvantages, it's slow, it has slower turn rates, it needs far more maintennance, long tur around time in some cases over 2 hours. Compare the turn around time with Gripen, 10 minutes for most operations and 20 minutes for sea target operations. The F35 is better than the Gripen E in only one aspect, the stealth. With the Gripen E entering the arena, we will have a new bench mark for gen4+ fighter jets. Gripen E will outperform Typhoon and Rafale in most operations. The only drawback for the Gripen E is that she does not have the payload capacity for heavy bombardmemt far into enemy territory, She can do it, no doubdt, but she's not very efficient in this matter.

@@valko022 No they can't...and absolutly not for that low flying cost for Gripen E. F35 would be a disaster for Finland with too long landing strips and a very low mission rate. Finland need to buy the much more expensive VTOL F35 or try to get hold of and improve the shute solution on Norwegian F35. Superhornet doesn't even has an integrated IRST...Rafale can't carry finnish JASSM missiles. Gripen E is by far the best choice for Finland.

I wish the Irish Air Corps would get their hands on a handful of Gripens . Most of our coast especially the Atlanic coast is a bit of a RAT RUN for the Russians . I would like a few out our pilots to scramble and keep a watchful eye on them . Here to fore the RAF have being doing this job . Well done SAAB any donation Gripens Accepted . Will pay monthly LOL.

Rafale samoin vanha,aseistus kokonaan Ranskalainen samoin muu tekniikka. Gripen e on näistä uusin 4.5 gen hävittäjä.halvin käyttää ja ylläpitää. Nopein kääntöaika. Aseistus on hyvä mm Meteor. Sopii hyvin Suomen hajautettuihin tukikohtiin.

F35 on päässyt lastentaudeistaan, tuotantomäärät on isoja ja red flag harjoituksissa se on tehnyt vakuuttavaa jälkeä, Sveitsi valitsi sen jopa edullisimpana vaihtoehtona. Koneen ominaisuudet ilman häivekykyä ovat eri tasolla kuin 4.5 koneissa. Ruotsi siirtyy jo 6n sukupolven Typhoon hankkeeseensa joten 2060-luvulle asti gripen ei vaan pysy mukana, eikä sen tuotantomäärät ole kovin häävit...

Gripen works...all the time...the whole time. A "real" fighter.

It was a long journey whit many obstacles too get here. But today our little fighter is on of the best out there. Thanks too a group of patriots that didn't want to purchase f16 and f18 from the US. I hope the Swedish industry stays alive 4 ever.

It would be cool if you could get 2 (extra guy needed) cameras and combine with video from a distance, synced with the close up. Then you can get a better idea of climb, turns and speed. It would be a lot more work but great for getting a refrence point with the terrain. :)

Best for filming air show is half cloudy weather. You get better angle for plane movement when there is solid background.

It's a bit fatter. You can tell by the slight "belly rubbing" in extreme turns. Not that it matters anyway.

Nothing second rate about this aircraft. It would be great to have a few engine choices. As a Canadian tax payer I believe this would be a great choice for my country. We should have closer ties with Sweden and since our health care in Nova Scotia is a mess Sweden might have some helpful suggestions besides kicking out the Liberal Government.

No modern fighter is preemptively built with "engine choices" If you order one you'd probably have the choice to change to the EPE, EDE or an development with an EJ2x0 if the customer really demands it (why on earth they'd want that though). An EPE upgrade to the Gripen E is probably next. +20% more thrust over the 20% upgrade from the Gripen C. (40% total).

@@yakidin63 for now 5th gen is hot. But I believe Saab is on the right path. In near future we will have sensors that detects 5th gen fighters. And consider the module based computer system, Gripen E The smart fighter. Makes extremely fast adoption for new sensors and weponsystems. I don't get surprised if Gripen E will be first fighter jet to actually detects stealth 5gen fighters. That would be a tru game changer.

The gripen E variant will now be better than rafale and eurofighter

The maneouverability is better with the E version than the C version. Allready the C version could do 12g turns but due to a bit weak engine she lost a lot of speed in 12g maneouvers. The E version has a considerably more powerful engine and will be able to perform 12g maneouvers even better than the C version.

What are those non after burning flames ? Anyway I like the philosophy of this light plane and the idea of ability to take off from anyware and landing anywere else, maybe a nice tactical point better than stealth.

Did E fly a full airshow aerobatics programme? Saab's Gripen E program manager himself said Kaivopuisto '21 was the first real airshow appearance for Echo, so that's the official line.

It was not, it was in Finland.

The F35 sucks because of the cost, maintenance cost and the time it has to spend on the ground for each mission, looots of time...:). Besides, it is a lousy dogfighter because of its wingloading. And the so called "stealth"...it works...maybe...sometimes. The Eurofighter is way too expensive and has a pretty bad "Meantime between Failiure". It seems to be bound to the ground quite often when needed. The Rafale is also very expensive and is intended to use french weapons only. Gripen dominates in all areas....by the way...it is cheaper and cheaper to operate. Did I mention that it is NATO-compatible and can operate from roadbases.....even in arctic conditions ? A proven fact...Gripen-pilots...be gentle when you practice against Norways F35:s ...don't embarrass them too much...

Only the fueldump scairs the enemy away?

Top speed & acceleration kind of drops with every plane when fully loaded. But airshow performance is ... airshow. No ordnance but speed & hard maneuvers.

Air show speeds are all subsonic. The Gripen can do supersonic with missles and it doesn’t even need to use it’s AB.

Nothing wrong. The sound is normal. As can be expected with rather normal equipment. Clipping is normal on overloaded microphones. It's hard to capture the full dynamics of a jet engine with microphones tuned for anything else but.

Imagine a tank that needs about 100 hours of maintenance for every hour that it runs...some war machine..Norway...ARE U JOKING ? There better not be a war ....

It doesn’t look as agile and nimble than the smaller one. It should be interesting to see it flying fully loaded like the Eurofighter or the Super Hornet.

You have a keen eye. I too think it looks slightly fatter when maneuvering. Sure, probably not pushing it to the maximum just yet, but still. I don't think it matters much. Dogfighting and cool acrobatic stuff are just airshow crap anyway. Your sensor suite, RCS, Radar, and missiles is what matters in the real world. Being able to carve corners is secondary.

@@christianm1533 I don’t think is just a matter of sensor fusion anymore. Nowadays all the 5 and 4.5 Gen have it, so no real difference.Once all the long range missiles are defeated with simple tactics like bearing the missile, most of the combat will be a medium to close range again. In that sense, bigger airplanes carrying the same number of missiles as the Gripen E or F will have an advantage.

@@jorgenpersson662 : Instantaneous turning performance is 90% wing loading. 5% aerodynamics and almost 0 % engines. Since wing area is identical, there is absolutely no way that E is better at instantaneous turning than C. Marginal, but still a difference.

What is the E update ? The west has bought over expensive F35s, should have bought more appropriate Gripens.

What is it not? The entire plane is new. Actually. It's more a resemblance to the Gripen C than a revised version. Swivel AESA Radar, 20% thrust on engine Engine, Massively upgraded (from the already state-of-the-art system in C) EW-system with first of a kind GaN tranciever elements, Fuselage accomodation of +20% fuel, Sensor suite, Instrumentation, Pilot support, data support, data links, fuel tanks (conformal), information carriers (fiberoptics instead of copper), Undercarriage (relocated), new IRST system (state of the art Skyward-G), yadda, yadda, yadda.

And its not that expensive, next week there is an airshow in Hungary, they fly Gripens, older models of course. I never forget the 3 way turn performed by an older Viggen. @@rudypieplenbosch6752 : No, the Gripen cannot reverse. But it will do very tight turns on the runway. Its runway turn capability enough for the Swedish doctrine of dispersed airbases on rural roads.

F-35 was the Victor in Finnish hx challenge, gripen was 3rd

Something about this aircraft just doesnt tickle me like the others do. I think its the one engine. Make me a super Gripen with two engines and we can talk. Fuel dump was a neat trick though.

There is no point with two engines, it makes everything more clumpsy and expensive - eg worse performance. its a bit like an old American big block "super" Chevy from the 50-70´s, it doesnt make any sense anymore. Within 30 years the Ruskyis will have discovered this too, they are always at least 30 years behind in everything/evolution.

@@kumlacharlie9076 I've heard a couple of pilots saying than an advantage of two engine aircraft is that if one dies, they still have one engine left to hopefully get back to base with.

@@TheMack Yes, they use to say that in the old days. A two engine plane with one engine is a bird with a broken wing. I´ve heard them say. -"These days engines do not fail and one engine is one potential problem, two engines is two potential problems." Nevertheless, a fighter plane is a very complicated thing with a lot of things to consider when you decide what you want and actually need. Regarding Gripen, it´s a system. One very important essential "USP", within the complete package, is that conscript soldiers, in the middle of the north pole, or in the Sahara desert (provided there´s some kind of road strip available), should be able to replace the entire engine within less than one hour. -Hence you do not need any base to get back to, which is a nice thing if all the bases have been bombed by crazy Ivan and his evil missiles.

Clearly the F35 is only suitable for bases far from enemy territory -like the US mainland and on aircraft carriers that can move out of dangerous zones, possibly on some islands such as Taiwan albeit that is questionable when so close to enemy territory. However countries like Sweden and Finland (and most European countries in the vicinity of Russia have a quite different situation. It is simply a too realistic scenario that all permanent landing strips will be taken out even before the start of the conflict. Even if one or two bases remain operational some time into the conflict half the country or more will be without active aircraft on a very early stage if the ability to land on improvised strips is not there. Add to that the flexibility that improvised air strips gives in terms of moving the home base of the aircraft so that they can always be close enough to the front lines to maximize their active time there but still keep them at a safe distance for the turn around. The shorter turn-around and the ability to use improvised strips might mean that a JAS Gripen is in the air twice as much as an F35 and in fact you should compare one F35 to two JAS Gripen. For the price of one JAS.

F-35 can take off from road bases. Also the F-35 is no more expensive than the JAS-39E. Your comment is moot.

F 35 is probably the best, but will it be the best choice for Finland!?? Yes, it is the only Fifth Gen, so it is the Best Survivable Jet, if!, if flying alone. How Survivable, you or any one might ask !?? Well, because it is Stealth, not 100 % radar invisible, but almost or very very invisible, and because it has the best Thrust in class, If!, if talking about the Cinematic Performance Etc, that Fully Loaded Internally, huom.! = notice!, Internally Weapons and Fuel Load! Yeah Right, you might say and ask Really!?!? Yes! It can still fly Its' Max Speed Mach 1.6 or 1.6 + when Internally Loaded Max Weapons and Fuel! But! But!?? It has had and still has problems, but question is, how many and how pick problems!?!? Like can it fly max speed longer enough, like over half of minute and no longer about half of minute, like 2 minutes or longer, because it has had Paint and other Stealth Materials in Its' Skin being damaged if flying Too Long in Super Sonic, that flying too long with Its' After Burner On! So! So is that still a Huge Problem for the F 35 A, if not the other F 35 Versions (but the F 35 A is the main issue here, the AirForce Version, which is for the Finnish Competition Too!), so is that Huge Problem already solved or not !?!? I hope it is, but not sure about it! Also there is this political Question or Questions, that will It be politically right Jet for Finland or not!?!? I mean, I hope, that If Finland will pick the F 35 A for Its' Next Jet Fighter, does this mean, that Finland is have to join into the NATO or not, or be forced to do jointly together Co - Operation / -s with the USA and NATO Allies or not !?? What about Choosing the Super Hornet / Growler Compilation, what kind of Political Issues that might cause ?? But, which Jet Should Finland Chosen For !?!? Either European Maker, The Gripen E or the Typhoon or the Rafale and saying more or less good bye to the USA ?? Maybe Finland should do that, I think !?? Or should Finland just pick up either the Super Hornet w/ Growler Or the Best of the Best, the F 35 !?? What You Think !?? Russia probably doesn't want, Finland to choose the Super Hornet w/ Growler and Even Less!, Even Less The F 35! Which will be (if not being Cancelled For Good, I Hope Not!)! The F 35 is Either Cheapest or Second Cheapest To Buy and Maintain, even right now! That at least right now the F 35 might be the Cheapest to buy or the second cheapest and in / on the 2025, it will cost even less to buy 1! and the Operating Costs, as the Maintain Costs will get lot lower to 2025! The Gripen E Operating Costs might be right now, more, than a Super Hornet and the F 35 and the Typhoon! But It will get lot lower, because being too new, it has not built enough = as many to be under or little bit / some over 7 000 US' Dollars / Euros, so right now it is 26 000 US' Dollars, or not !?? ; / But God Bless Everyone so so much! @@angela1984a Well...remember this fighter isn't in service yet... and I got the feeling the pilot wasn't pushing 100%. Look at Gripen E in airshows 2-3 years from now. But there was same section that was quite good. 1:37 5:14 - 5.43

Well most "impressive" moves for thrustvectoring fighters are for airshows not for real air combat. Gripen E are made for real combat not for airshows. Those moves are impressive for a fighter that aren't yet in service.

@@hermanocpimentel According to Swiss test results Gripen was inferior pretty much in everything when compared with Rafale. It was inferior even when compared to old Swiss Hornets.
