Grin Kits with Modern Display? No Way! Introducing our SuperH Conversion Platform

Ғылым және технология

Yes it's been a long time coming but we're glad to kick off 2024 with a conversion kit family that supports modern ebike displays while keeping key features previously only available through our Cycle Analyst platform.
This took a while to release since we didn't want these systems to result in a huge step backwards in regenerative braking or PAS control. Significant firmware limitations and hardware limitations that had to be overcome first.
This video is meant as a high level overview of this product launch. More videos tutorials will be coming soon on the specific setup, configuration, and installation of SuperH kit systems.

I'll look to piece up a solution with this and try to make a turnkey bike. thanks from Ojai, California, USA

    Great to see more options for displays! I would love to see a bluetooth platform one day; basically a headless CA that still handles the wiring but offloads all the data I/O to a mobile app. So many people use their phones now, or have an old spare phone repurposed as a bike speedo. Lemme know if you ever need an app developer for a project like this :)

    It's a little more complicated than that, since the CA3 will consider you to have a "throttle fault" if it boots up and sees 1V when the min throttle input is 0V. So you first have to go to full regen to clear that fault, and then after that it would somewhat "just work" as you say.

    We have them all on hand but are still working on the adapter circuit that remaps them from a 2.5V center point to a 1V center point so there is no need to change any controller settings. In principle they will work directly into a baserunner/phaserunner without a superharness, but you would have to do your own cable adapters to arrange that hookup.

    For years I have been told you cannot change the display on an ebike because it is not compatible with the controller. Does this mean you can now change the display & still have full functionality of the lights, brakes etc. Also how much does this kit cost and can a novice install it or do you need to take it to a professional? I have a 48v 1000w motor bike & the display doesn't provide anywhere near the functionality of this one.

    I'm poised to buy a grin tech kit. Can this be used in conjunction with the Cycle Analyst ? Will the Cycle Analyst hardware that you're currently selling eventually incorporate the functions that are currently unique to this harness ? ... Ultimately, I want what the CA3 offers in terms of control and data ... But I also want the discretion of using the Egg Display, but without foregoing what the CA3 offers. If I could use both, I would 'hide' the CA3 (i.e wire it out of sight somehow, like in a small harnessed bag or something), and use the Egg display for maximum discretion.

It's a huge bargain compared to what we had to deal with for our first ebike builds over 20 years ago. So as long as you have an interest and the skills to understand and repair things yourself you can get into this space and enjoying ebiking on a shoestring budget. Perhaps some day your circumstances will change and you can save up for some Grin Tech gear, but even if not we'll always be making free content and videos to help people understand and fix things regardless of where they get them.

    "throttle needs to be independent of PAS setting". This is wrong, or at very least debatable. For any commuting/travel purpose, you always want a target maximum speed. 9 PAS levels lets you fine tune this. If you are targetting 30kph, you don't need throttle to go faster than this in emergency, and if you turn on a faster road, bumping PAS level to that road is the way. Even when in 15kph PAS setting (bike path, technical trail) throttle gets you to 0-15 just as fast, and it is much safer than just ramping up faster than this. Many crashes are related to twist throttles not letting go when starting to go sketchy. So consciously setting safe/range extending maximum speed lets you ignore your actual speed. A perfectly fine throttle design would be on/off instead of analog. Or let analog throttle control watts instead of max amps until cutoff speed reached. It is unsafe going faster than a safe speed you can let PAS determine. Variable throttle to set safety speed is not as reliable.

  • @GrinTechnologies

    @GrinTechnologies

    Ай бұрын

    Luckily it's a simple bit setting in one of the parameters if you happen to want the throttle level to be also limited to the pas assist setting. So you can have it your way no problem while most people definitily prefer independence here.
