We had a German neighbor at one point who loved this show, mostly because the sheer amount of folklore that it had and she would sometimes yelk at the TV when the characters mispronounced the names, "No, its Bauerschwein, not bauerswine, you idiot!" It was a blast to see her have fun with the show, despite how many she screamed, "Youre saying it wrong!"

Let me just say, Nick’s confusion at being told that the Fuchsteufelwild is a goblin like thing is exactly what watching this show is like for a German speaker

"Goblin" was very irritating to me as well. Because the Rumpelstielschen is fuchsteufelswild at the end of the fairy tail.

That makkes me sad because in the show Rosalee and Monroe knows everything about every wesen, here they didn't know much. But the last wesens was so hard to recognize. The funny thing is that Sean Renard took help from an owl wesen to open Nicks van. I thought shnabelmorder was a killer elephant for some reason because a trunk is snabel in swedish and there is a possibility that some swedish words is similar in german. But yeah i was wrong.

Interesting, the Wesen themselves are pronounced in almost perfect Highgerman but the way the team and the actors pronounce the word WESEN is Jiddish and not correct German for the the E in Wesen had to be stressed and NOT the S = "Ein Schuft der Böses dabei denkt".

@@rogerlynch5279 The names are weird though. Often with wrong grammar or missing letter. Scharfblicke has an extra E. Fuchsteufelwild misses an S. Ziegevolk misses an N. And so on.

Shurly not. Ich tu es, aber wohl doch nicht jeder.:) It just was said that the GRIMM concept wasn´t developed together with a German Studio. The topic is pure German after all. So a lot of mistakes about Germany and Austria could have been avoided. No one anymore is calling anymore a young woman Fräulein and in Marburg they talk German only but not French for example. Not to forget that SWABIA is devided between Bavaria and Baden-Würtemberg.

Roger Lynch I don't think it makes a difference. It may not be made by Germans, but most of its audience clearly is. Also, the French is because it's what the royals speak. It has nothing to do with tree country. I'm taking your word for the rest, I really wouldn't know.

It seriously ironic. Most fantasy beings are pronounced correctly in a Scandinavian or German way BUT the word WESEN itself is not pronounced in German but in Jiddish That is weared. With their language exprerts at hand as mentioned in other Grimm background videos the developers should have known better. Because those Jiddish references are usually based on antisemitism since " this topic had been culture historical ment that way.
