    Just came across this video, excellent information. Currently own a RT-700 and had the issue of lots of smoke on startup, yup firepot was dirty. Have gone through close to 400lbs of pellets only issue was an igniter failure, had a replacement in 2 days. Just ordered a RT-B380, should be here Sunday, cant wait to try it out too. Thanks again for the excellent video, fit my stable of grills perfect.

Not being able to walk into a showroom you do need to get some basics answered and the things you showed really helped me make a decision on a Rec Etc 380 bullseye. I have searched the internet looking for the answers to the questions you answered. Your video was just like an explanation I was looking for from a sales representative. God Bless you guys and keep up the good work. You've got a good product you can be truthful about and sell like you mean it.!

    NEGATIVE on your advice concerning no drip pans in the bullseye. Without a drip pan you will have grease fires on the bullseye.. If you keep a drip pan under the grate to catch drippings, and go to riot mode for about 10-15 minutes after each cook, this will turn everything to ash and eliminate the grease fire issue. I love the bullseye. it is a great weeknight smoker for short cooks.. A great compliment to my pit boss 700. I love rec tec. Great product, and excellent customer service.

Do you have any tips on how to prevent leftover pellets from absorbing humidity in hopper and preventing any problems downstream with off size pellets? Will these grills take wood pellets from other manufacturers, or will they only take rec teq brand pellets? Lastly, do you offer a stainless hopper box instead of the black porcelain coated or powder coated ?

    On the RT-B380, Jody said don’t cover the heat deflector in foil. I totally understand that covering the holes with anything would restrict the air/heat. Question then, on a low-and-slow at 225F, could I place a small foil pan with or without water to catch drippings and provide moisture or will be pan melt from contact with the deflector? 225F is way below the melting point of aluminum but I would guess that the deflector is quite a bit hotter than the air at the RTD.

    Question chef Jody: I have the RT700, which by the way I love! My question is this; I've gone through two flat grills due to warping. In some of the videos, I see some of the RT chefs cooking w/out the grills. On the last flat top grill that was warrantied out, the RT customer service, which by the way is outstanding, said to cook on top of the grill and not to remove the grills. What are your thoughts?

  • @recteq

    @recteq

    If there is dust at the bottom of the barrel, it is fine to leave that there for a few cooks. It helps soak up any grease/fat that drips down there. If there is dust in the hopper, that is fine to leave it there. We recommend to clean it every couple of months or so.But nothing hurts if you want to clean it early than what is recommended. :)

Perfect fit on the heat deflector, don't even have to flip it. Don't use it for high heat though as it restricts air flow. Happy smoking.

  • @gclaytony

    Love my RT-700, but the biggest improvement I made was to add the fire felt 'seal' material around the perimeter of the lid. Improved the uniformity of the temperature across the grill area (left to right significantly). Given the concerns with air flow, it insures that the flow is around the food and out the stack (and drip spigot) rather than short circuit out the edges of the lid during the cook. I feel that RecTeq is missing an obvious fix by not having a fire felt seal from the factory. IMO. The good news is it takes all of 5 minutes or so to install the felt seal material.

    I don’t have any issues with smoke leaking out around the lid on my rt700. Maybe I got lucky with mine but it seals pretty well.

  • @gclaytony

    @gclaytony

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@ThurstonHowell3rd The assembly pretty much builds in a gap in the top and bottom edges since the end caps are an external attachment on the body - not flush. It is why the smoke stains the stainless steel there first. I didn’t think much about either at first, but as I used it more it became apparent that the pit was hotter toward the temp probe vs toward the smoke stack. So I finally followed the recommendation posted by several RT 700 users and ordered a fire felt ‘kit’ from Amazon. I decided to give the pit a full cleaning while I was at it, then applied the fire felt to the edges of the door. The difference in air/smoke flow was apparent in the one hour ‘burn in’ the next day with it only leaving the pit at the stack and the fluid drain, no longer any evidence around the door edge. I found I didn’t have an issue with different cook rates from one side to the other when I smoked three racks of ribs the next day. It also seemed even more efficient in pellet usage but that is just perception, not measured. YMMV
