    Does John put his soul into this piece or what? For a left handed man, he surely has strong and coordinated right fingers. Beautiful work John Patitucci. I can't even recall what I was thinking about before I heard this. Had to play it twice. Thank you for sharing your work so freely.

    Handedness does not translate to skill or coordination with an instrument.

  • @charlesmcgehee3227

    @charlesmcgehee3227

    @@douglasdiggins8296 Not implied. He has a strong right hand for a born lefty. It is physically challenging for some left handed players to pick well. Especially so when first learning the instrument. I'm strongly left handed and play right handed basses. It was hard work building my left had up. I play well but it did not come easily.

    @@charlesmcgehee3227 there is no evidence supporting what you are saying. Left handed players may have same adaptation required in their early months of learning, but the difference ia negligible.

    When I was a young lad my Mom used to always say about a great musician, "Wow, they really can make that instrument talk." That always stuck with me. To make your music speak to an audience. After all, it is a language. John is the epitome of an exceptional musician. He most certainly spiritually communicates to us with his music and his bass playing. Especially, as displayed here. What an incredible voice. Beautiful note choices and feel. He truly can make his instrument talk. Great music.

    I've never played upright, but I see much of the physicality that is described with the instrument. It seems like a dance with the instrument as much as a song.

    I attended a clinic you gave in Miam Dade College back around 1992. You've been a great influence on my playing since. You are the bassist encyclopedias should have a picture of when describing what it means to be one. Your technique is flawless on both electric and acoustic but your tone and your melodic phrasing is what I still strive to achieve. You are a great influence. Thank you!

    It's funny, the very first "rig" my parents bought me when I started playing bass in 1974 was a used Gibson EB-3 bass and a used Ampeg B-15 amp from our local music store. Of course, when I went off to college in 1981, stupid me thought "I want all new fancy gear", so I sold both and bought an Ibanez bass and a Music man amp. Now 41 years later I would KILL to get that first rig back! 🤣

    Picked up on your sound back in '86. I'd come home from performing with the symphony and take my mind off of that music, and listen to yours. You were with Chick a long time, buddy. You paid your dues. I pray all is well these days. The glissandos are cool tool of artistry, man. My favorite moments were the contra G's with that cool sawtooth. What a sound! That one lingers in my ear for awhile.
