Grid U - An American Rudimental Legacy: The West Point Hellcats

Музыка

Grid University is proud to present the original documentary:
An American Rudimental Legacy: The West Point Hellcats
Produced by Kevin Troyanos
The Hellcats:
The DrumCats are comprised of rudimental drummers from the West Point Band's "The Hellcats." Equipped with instruments designed and hand-made specifically for them, the DrumCats enable the West Point Band to maintain faithful renditions of traditional American military music while providing the Corps of Cadets with a piece of living history.

I loved practicing in the West Point field house and adjacent fields along the Hudson River with Cabs in 74, 75, 76 courtesy of Jack Pratt and George Tuthill every spring.

Andrew Porter! Hell yes! Stood right behind him every show before marching onfield in 1993. Good to see him chopping out with the Hellcats. SLIBFS.

When I first started to learn how to drum I was in Mount Saint Joseph Military Academy, very close to West Point and their Cadets would come over to our military academy and teachers how to drum as well teach the bugle section how to play oh, great memories many years ago oh, I went on to play with olph Richmond late 50s Floyd Bennett golden eagles 60 and 61 then onto the Long Island Sunrisers 64 through 68.

So happy to see rope drumming get this kind of publicity. Our style has been fading rapidly the last 50 years... anyone interested check out some of the videos on my channel. This still exists outside of the military, but will disappear unless more people become interested and want to learn about it.

We currently use either the IP FS2 or the IP PR2 (Paul Rennick 2). In this video, we were using the FS2. -Andrew Porter

He's also the first person to win snare individuals at DCI and PAS in the same year ('88) when he was in Phantom Regiment. I don't know if anyone has repeated that since.

to Jodywhitedrums: it makes no difference if you are playing with the worst band or the best drum corps ,you will only be as good as the person pushing you harder than you have ever been pushed before. If you can't memorize quick than you don't belong with the instrument you are playing. I have been a drummer for over 50 years and I still haven't seen it all but I try my darndest to play it as I see it.Jeff is a great drummer .I have learned from his showmanship and professionalism .I wish I could play half as good as he does.
