Greta Gerwig: Why Ryan Gosling’s Ken Wears A Faux Mink Coat in “Barbie”

Ойын-сауық

Greta Gerwig, who wrote the role of Ken with Ryan Gosling in mind, explains how their shared love of Sylvester Stallone’s fashion led them to dress Ken in faux fur. “Barbie” is available for purchase and streaming on Max.

Gerwig is exactly what a director should be: she respects and likes her actors, and allows their ideas to be incorporated. A true collaborator.

At the presentation Steve Carell and Greta Gerwig both gave great speeches praising Ryan as an actor and person. Steve talked about how much he "hates" Ryan for being so good. Greta gave a particularly lovely speech about Ryan's commitment to bringing to life the incredible and crazy Ken that she imagined. The event is on KZread, so be sure to check it out.

The dance with faux mink coat must have been the best part in the film 😭 Ryan Gosling simply killed all of his scenes... no actor could have done what he did. I mean he was fantastic in the role, but I'm sure there must have been backups. Chris Pine also would have made an A Plus Ken. A hilariously blonde Ryan Reynolds, a cleanshaven Tom Hardy, or Chris Hemsworth would have very happily and easily slipped into that role, as well. OOOOh, maybe Chris Evans, I feel like he might have brought something really interesting to the role, he is secretly extremely funny, he can play a dickbag character really well, but no one is better at quietly expressing vulnerability he really really doesn't want you to see.

Probably not a good idea to proclaim to the world you're a knuckle-dragging neanderthal with zero intelligence or empathy?

You could never understand that crap. It must suck to have the intellectual agility of a small soap dish (Ref. George Carlin RIP).

Couldn't someone tell this lady that Barbie should have either been a political commentary OR a fun light movie? It looked fun but was so disappointing. Looks like a good fun kids movie but it's not. All the effort feels wasted.

If you’ve seen a single trailer you’d know it’s not a fun kids’ movie. But kids have dozens of Barbie animated films to keep them entertained.

She'll never learn, especially after that huge amount of money it made. Also all the people who loved it. Which is why it made all the money 💰💰💰. And the positive reviews. The award nominations. Her previous successes. How sad for her. 🙃
